A dark-haired, gruff-looking young man was waiting before Taiyoutono's main gate, tapping his foot lightly as his eyes searched for the person he'd invited on a casual after-school out-eating - his fellow Archangel, Kyo Charinko. Sure, they'd done their share of patrols together, and he'd invited her along with some other of their companions for a movie night, but he hadn't really had the chance to know her better - which was a damn waste, he thought.

So, he'd asked her if she'd be alright for a little foodrun when classes anded - and it seemed like she'd been okay with the idea ! He'd been surprised himself by the easiness with which he'd asked that - a couple of months earlier, that'd have been the kind of thing he'd struggled to ask. Well, good news, he guessed.

He could have asked Kyo if she'd be up for some sushi-tasting, but the fact was, he hadn't made any - and he wouldn't have wanted her to wait for him to be done cooking. So, some place in town it'd be.

He looked for a head of green hair.

Kyo's head hurt.

She was pretty sure that was just a coincidence, though. Maybe her injury had made her more prone to it, possibly, but the ache had started at her neck, so it likely just general muscle pain or something. She'd woken up in some odd positions lately, been tossing in her sleep according to Hiroko, and rather than the dreams she'd used to have, she'd been alternating between old memories of Kenshin--memories that occasionally became lucid dreams in which she tried to say what she wanted to say, or talked about her day, or just shot the breeze at an unmoving, unresponsive Kenshin--and re-visiting that dream-vision her Shadow had shown her, from back then. She was pretty sure she understood why her dreams were fixating on Kenshin lately, but the latter recurring dream puzzled her. That had been a one-time encounter with her Shadow, prior to her ascension, when her other self had been trying to convince her of the things she'd accepted about herself afterward--when Morrigan had become Nevan.

In any case, concussion or not, need to take it easy or not, emotional confusion or not, the game of life must go on. Which was why Kyo was at school regardless of feeling like shit, which she figured was a regular event for most girls anyway, going about their day despite feeling like shit. What did it matter if it was a concussion this time instead of the usual? Nothing, that's what. So she'd bucked up and gone to school. And later in the evening, she would be going to work. That was that.

When she opened the front door of the school, she didn't look particularly enthused. The presence of a somewhat-lighter-than-before bandage on her right cheek probably went some distance toward explaining this, but she wasn't fussed about not offending Iemoto. She'd alerted the Archangels to the reason she couldn't join patrols for a bit, so he would probably understand. Dude was into medicine and stuff, so she figured he'd understand better than most others, at that.

Still, when she spotted the boy by the gate, she hitched a stiff but genuine smile onto her face and raised a free hand to wave, adjusting the other to hold her school bad a bit more comfortably over her shoulder. "Yo," she said. "I didn't keep y'waitin' long, did I? Kinda surprisin' we ain't really talked since all this started, considerin' how often we work together, yeah?"

Kyo slowed to a stop next to Iemoto, rubbing at the back of her neck.

"Mind if we stop at the convenience store on the way? I could use a pain reliever..."

Iemoto's lips spread into a smile that was far too wide and happy-looking not to look dorky when Kyo came into view - he noticed it, though, and he corrected his facial expression into a more normally content one. He couldn't help but worry a bit for his fellow Archangel's health - sure, she didn't look too bad, and it wasn't that dramatic that she couldn't go on patrol with them for a while, but these reactions weren't exactly rational, were they ? In any case, she'd gone through a school day, so the situation probably wasn't that bad.

"'llo." he greeted back, pulling his hands out of the pockets of the duffel-coat he wore on his school uniform. "I just came out from class, so there's no problem. And, yeah, that's why I asked you if you'd be okay with this tonight." he added, shaking his head.

"Don't mind. It's important to treat the pain when you feel it. Doesn't make you stronger, despite what some people might say. he said. "Are you okay, though ?"

Kyo rolled her eyes. "If pain made ya stronger I'd've given the Reaper what-for by now," she said, lowering her voice so as not to let it carry, although in truth she knew this was a remark that only Persona-users could really get. "And aight, thanks. Yeah, I'm fine. Stuff ain't stopped happenin' just 'cause I ain't in good shape for it. Hell, stuff seems t'be happenin' now just to annoy me. Some fucking troll on the forum and y'know, I had the most awkward phone call from my mom the other night, literally right after that asshole kicked me in the head. Jesus. She couldn'ta done that one night sooner or one night later, could she?"

The green-haired girl shook her head, and strolled past Iemoto, proceeding through the gate and out onto the sidewalk, glancing both ways out of habit before stepping onto the crosswalk. There was no way Iemoto could know it, but something about being actually hit by a car had instilled in Kyo a strong caution about crossing the street.

Once upon a time she would have just jaywalked this. Not a serious thing, right? Now, well, what was ten extra seconds of walking? Not a thing, that was what.

"Sometimes," she said, once they were far enough away from passersby to speak more freely about things, "sometimes I think there really is somethin' whacked about probability in this town. But nevermind. How've you been, Iemoto? Was your sushi sample a success?"

"Oh. Well, I guess that... bad stuff always looks like its piling up on you when you actually start noticing it. That's what I think, anyway." Iemoto replied, not going further into his analysis of Kyo's situation and feelings as he feared to make a social faux-pas. His own mother wasn't in any state to give him phone calls - and he didn't know how long it'd take for her to be able to simply be aware of things around her, let alone communicate with anyone. He didn't want to nourish unrealistic hopes, but...

He deviated his mind from this particular train of thought as he took in Kyo's remark about probabilities. He'd already given the subject some thought - how would a probablity-altering thing even work, practically ? Probabilities were a way to predict the world when data about stuff was imcomplete (and it always was, no latter the circumstances). Did it mean that there was some unseen force influenting in real time the way a coin would land ? That was weird...

"Oh, yeah, it went alright. The dude liked what I had cooked. I was actually thinking about inviting a few people over next time I make a big batch... You'd be invited, of course." he replied, turning a slight smile in the green-haired girl's direction.

"Eh, guess so," Kyo admitted after Iemoto made his first point. "Still. Sometimes the sheer amount of stuff I get messed up in is just like--whoa, slow the fuck down."

The girl withdrew a hand from her pocket, scratching at her chin. She felt an uncomfortable twinge of sorts all of a sudden, as though she'd forgotten something important that she should have remembered. Talking about her mom felt weird right now, and she couldn't place why, because she normally didn't mind talking about that sort of thing.

It wasn't coming to her, though. Never mind. Sushi, that was a pleasant topic for anyone who liked good, wholesome Japanese food.

"Hey, I'd love to," Kyo said earnestly. "Always willin' t' try a friend's cookin', too, speakin' as an enthusiast myself. Sushi ain't my cup o' cola, exactly, but I can still appreciate it when it's done well. Maybe I should rope you inta tryin' my own next big experiment, too, heheh..."

Iemoto gave his green-haired comrade a curious glare as she suddenly said slow the fuck down. The fact that Kyo merely scratched her chin prompted him not to investigate further on the subject - this could be a lot of things, and bothering her further about that would only lead to the two of them enjoying this casual hangout less. "Happy to know you'll be a part of it." he replied, a smile spreading his lips.

"You can count on me. Any idea what that could be, or are you just throwing that out there...?" he asked with curiosity. "Ain't really a big cookin enthusiast, but man, there's something with making sushi that just draws me in. I guess my dad really did influence my career choices, after all... I'll be the sushi surgeon."

Still scratching her chin, Kyo looked to Iemoto with a quirked-up eyebrow. "I think I've hung out a bit too much with Hanako, 'cause the idea that both o' your career paths involve cuttin' things up with alarmin' precision don't seem all that alarmin' somehow," she remarked. "As for experimentin', aaaaaaaah, I dunno. For the most part I just try new recipes in the--in the cookbook my friend left me."

Her voice faltered just slightly as said this; thinking of the cookbook made her think of that strange episode with Kazue, and thinking of that strange episode with Kazue made her think of Kenshin's knife, and...

...Well. Best avoid that train of thought.

"I'll letcha know when I've got somethin'," she said. "I can't just jump from one thing t' the next, unfortunately. Money's a thing. I think I'm doin' a decent enough job o' stretchin' my spendin' money out but, well, I'm kinda worried about what I'll be doin' for college."

The girl sighed a bit, and stuffed her hands in her pockets. She wanted to add: It's not like I can go crawling back to my parents for tuition money, but honestly, the fact that her mother had sent that card, that she'd called Kyo of all people when she was drunk, and the things her grandmother had said about her mother's feelings...

You can. You totally can! Eat, drink, be merry, for tomorrow we leech our parents for all they're worth~ declared Nevan impishly. Kyo kept her face straight, but the knowledge that part of her was so enthusiastic about this idea made her want to punch something.

"I guess unusual minds think alike. I don't nearly have the skills folks who actually want to get into the cooking business usually have at my age, though... Still gonna take a lot more work. And I'd need to get generally good at cooking." Iemoto replied, looking up at the sky thoughtfully as he said that. Sushi chef... not a bad job by any stretch of the mind - it'd certainly be a bit less dramatic than surgeon, that was for sure.

"Hey, you know, if you really need money someday... My parents left me with a pretty sizable amount of dosh, so if you need some, you just need to ask. Not that I particularly want you to be in my debt or anything !" the boy blurted out as Kyo spoke about her potential money problems.

Cooking business. Kyo remembered badgering Edward to give up on assassinations and just, start a restaurant or something. It was extremely awkward in hindsight. Back then, she'd still been ignorant about Edward's condition...

"Eh," Kyo said, looking away, trying to drag her mind back to the present--thinking about past social mis-steps was a surprisingly efficient way to kill one's mood in any situation. "Well, money's not--what I mean is, I don't wanna ask for help. If I did, I'da already asked Kinzaki or Ale--...Alexis, or, maybe even Machi, y'know? And I know I can, if I'm ever really in a bad place, but, well y'know I just wanna deal on my own. Don't wanna be weighin' anyone down or--dare I say--bein' a leech."

She turned her face forward again, her expression going very deadpan. The convenience store was in view, though, which reminded Kyo that she wanted a pain reliever, which in turn reminded her how much her headache hurt. The girl's hand drifted to her forehead, and she rubbed lightly at her right temple.

"I appreciate it, but you're better off usin' that for your education and stuff," she said. "It's what they'd prolly want. Shit, I wish I hadn't screwed around for the last two years, gettin' into a decent college is gonna be a production now. Why the hell do colleges even look at the shit ya did before y'were seventeen anyway? It's not like that's even a good indicator o' how mature y'are durin' senior year..." She shook her head. "People're so eager t' rush kids inta bein' work drones, it's fuckin' stupid, yeah? I think kids'd actually be more productive if they didn't feel so pressured all the time."
