This thread is a followup to Bacon & Eggs. --- This was bad... Very, very, very bad. Yuki was quite nervous to say the least. His stay so far in Nagashima had been anything but pleasant - Machi's ex-boyfriend nearly assaulted him on the street, Machi herself nearly ripped his head off on sight, and Momoko's foot met his groin in an agonizing kick in the middle of the cafeteria. And at last, but not the least, he was asked to meet privately with Kyo Charinko after the Cooking Club's meeting with no apparent explanation. This could not be good, not at all. He reached the front gate quickly, nervously pacing around or jumping in place, skateboard in hand, watching students from cultural clubs leave the premises. Kyo would be there soon... ...And his head would roll. Again. |

Except, not really. It took a lot to actually earn a kick in the groin from Kyo Charinko, and it was the other Osaka greenhair who had a reputation for sending people's heads rolling. Kyo was pretty chill! Which was why the only guys to thus far earn the dread boot to the balls thus far were Makoto Nakagawa and Akira Serizawa. She made her way to the front gate a bit after Yuki got there--no rush, after all, and giving the guy a chance to bugger off before she got there was a decent way to gauge honesty levels, anyway. And it would give him time to sweat, that too... "Yo. So, normally this'd be the part where I offer t' treat ya t' lunch, but seein' as we just got outta cookin' club..." she said in a lazy, somewhat deadpan voice, "that'd be a little redundant. So let's just walk. And talk, once we're far enough away from the rabble that none o' this gets picked up and flown away with by the peanut gallery and their pesky rumor mill thingamafucker, yeah?" Kyo came to a stop next to Yuki, and withdrew a hand to scratch her nose. "Then again," she said dully, "with my rep that'd just prolly wind up turnin' into a rumor that you and me're a 'thing.' But never mind. You're the dude Machi's gonna hafta marry, right? Welcome t' Nagashima. I just wanna ask ya a few questions about the arrangement, if that's alright." She put her hand back in her pocket and glanced back at the school. "Don't know Machi very well, but if nothin' else I'd at least like t' make sure she's in good hands if this absolutely has t' happen..." |

Back and forth. Back and forth. Back and forth... Each and every step only added to the mental torture he put himself through, as every second of waiting seemed to slow to a crawl. Yuki was getting far too impatient, but frankly, the day had put him slightly over the edge. What was in store for him? He tried to force himself to calm down as Kyo arrived, a not so natural smile coming to his lips in greeting. It would be okay... "A few questions...?" For a moment, he considered pure curiosity, almost tabloid-like, which he had grown to despise for the past couple of days; fortunately, that didn't seem to be the case. "...What would you like to know?" He finally asked reluctantly, as Kyo didn't seem to make immediate assumptions about him, and she seemed genuinely concerned. Maybe he could save himself from a second kick to his future children! |

"Not t' put too fine a point on it?" Kyo replied, beckoning lazily for Yuki to follow her and starting on her way out the gate. "I wanna know what your angle is. I wanna know if this arranged marriage is somethin' you wanted, or somethin' your family wanted, or what. I already know Machi's side o' things--a fair bit better than she prolly thinks I do. What about you, though?" Kyo sent Yuki a shrewd, somewhat narrow-eyed look. "Y'don't exactly look like the evil foreign prince lordin' over his conquest o' the pure and magic virgin princess like in stories," she observed flatly. "Hell, when I heard she was bein' pushed inta this, I sorta pictured that really kinda bastard of a rich kid, but you don't seem the type." She paused. Then, raising her eyebrows a bit: "How much d'you know about Machi's side o' this?" |

"My angle...?" Put in such wording, it almost sounded as if he had some sort of second intention with it; however, Yuki let his paranoia down, and tried to relax facing the interrogation at hand. "Well..." His tone lowered slightly. Sure, there weren't students directly next to them, but they were nearby. Anyone who didn't care about their well being would probably make such info spread like wildfire. "...Our family had no choice, really." In other words, blackmail. "Machi-chan isn't the type to agree to such a thing. I don't know why she did it, but I'm sure it was something important." Why she didn't tell him about it, he did not know - he had done so after all, with every single detail. "From my family, I was the only one near her age, and who knew her... So I figured I'd be the one most suited to help out." His expression became somewhat determined, though his facial features made it look somewhat soft. "And so, I volunteered. She needs my help." |

As Yuki spoke, Kyo's expression soured. His family had no choice? So this stupid arranged marriage was some sort of hostile takeover power trip or something? What the fuck was even the point of that, it was just--ugh. Rich people! They should all just die in a fire! Unless they're Machi, or Kinzaki, or, um, Aleksandria, or... this guy or... okay, never mind, but still, why do so many of them just suck? "She needs your help?" Kyo echoed, with a touch of incredulity, likewise keeping her voice low. "I don't really get whatcher thinkin' ya can do besides make it easier for her t' take, if you're tellin' it true. But..." Kyo sighed, and then pinched the bridge of her nose. "I know why she did it, sorta. I can't say, though," she said. "Her ex-boyfriend told me, so... well, gotta keep the secrets secret. But it looks like the only real bad guy in this situation's her old man." The green-haired girl reached back, scratching restlessly at her hair. "Y'say y'knew her before this, didja? Mind if I ask where from?" |

"W-Well, we actually know each other, so that might put her at ease..." Yuki's train of thought wasn't exactly logical - he just felt compelled to help. "I'm probably the only one of my family capable of helping, since only I know she wouldn't agree to this lightly." Curiosity piqued his interest, but he couldn't ask. It wasn't his place. If Machi didn't tell him, there was a reason to do that. And so, he kept quiet about such a thing. After a nod, he responded to the question. "We were classmates back in Kyoto. Elementary school." That was a long time ago... "Unfortunately, she didn't seem to remember me that well..." |

"Huh..." Kyo said, scratching her cheek. "Well, don't take that too personal. I don't remember much o' the faces from elementary either, although." She winced, and fidgeted a bit with her bangs. "Somehow I don't think Machi was the wallflower who got teased by all the other kids like I was, so that might have somethin' t' do with it. No friends. Ehehehe... anyway where was I goin' with this? Well, I just mean, not everyone remembers the people they knew back then, so no big deal." Kyo's hand drifted away from her hair and she rubbed at the back of her neck, her mismatched eyes sweeping the familiar street in front of her, lips curving down into a frown. "Well, okay," she said slowly after a few moments. "I just wanted t' check n' see, see? Mind, if I thought it'd solve the problem, I'd swoop in, punch her dad's face in, and end it right there. Much as it feels like a bad evil-warlock-and-imprisoned-princess story though, real world's not so simple. Ain't a matter o' fightin' the big bad beastie and everythin' just bein' right with the world when it happens..." The green-haired girl sighed, stuffed her hands back in her pockets, and sighed. "So I guess that's settled," she said heavily. "Y'want somethin' t' drink? Tell me a bit about yourself, if you're comfortable doin' that. I know Machi's family runs, uh, Kijimuta Networks but what's yours do?" Kyo grinned a bit, tilting her head to one side. "I don't really follow corporate politics or drama much, all the tabloid rumors and First World Problems just kinda put me in a bad mood. The only companies I know much about're Kijimuta, Kirihara, Fyodor, and Kriemgund. Mostly 'cause their heiresses all came t' this one school in this one pisshole town for some reason. Weird, ain't it?" |

"Actually... She was pretty quiet." Yuki ended up saying with a rather fond smile. Quiet, shy, bookworm... So damn cute. "It was hard for me to recognize her when I came here too, admittedly. She has changed a lot." Right to popular, outgoing, sporty. What the hell happened? He sighed, letting his mind at ease now that the whole tension was out of the way. As they further conversed, Yuki idly played around with his skateboard. "I'd appreciate one, thank you." He said with a smile, nodding. "Well..." The fact the Ishinomori name hadn't been heard over there made him wince. Was the company doing that badly...? "We're Kijimuta Networks' main competition, if you will. We're both Kyoto based, but they moved away, which frankly was a breath of fresh air..." His mood seemed to sour a bit. "They were beating us by a long margin though, unfortunately." |

"...Eh," Kyo said in a noncommittal voice. Unfortunate? Sure. When one rich person was getting richer than another rich person doing the same kind of thing that the other rich person did, that was unfortunate. Oh wait, no it wasn't. It wasn't unfortunate at all, in fact it was more "vaguely annoying" than anything. "Okay, and I guess this whole arranged marriage thing is her asshole dad tryin' t' make your company the blue ghost to his Pac-Man. But when I said 'tell me about yourself' I meant tell me about you, not about your company stuff. Hobbies, passtimes? Pet peeves? ...Stuff?" As the two neared a crosswalk, Kyo beckoned Yuki to follow her--they would need to wait a moment for some cars to pass, but once they had, the convenience store was right on the other side. |
