"Uh...why're y' askin' me?" Naoya said, looking blankly at Kakeru. They were down here so that Kyo could check and see if her brain injury was impeding her abilities, but it seemed that she was as functional as ever. This meant that their primary mission was over, and Naoya simply wanted to leave and forget what had been revealed. It was at that moment that the sound of chains became audible from the direction that the compass was pointing. Clink...clank...clank...clink... Naoya's facial expression went blank and his eyes went wide. He said, in a pressured voice without a single error: "We have to go now." He reached his hand out, prepared to help Kyo up the mountain of wreckage |

"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"

Kyo froze for a moment. One could say the sound of clinking chains sounded more like a second penny dropping to the floor in her head, much more loudly than the first, at that point. But she only froze for a moment, before scrambling along the piping, nearly losing her balance, and gripping Naoya's hand to speed her way to the doorway. "Ha, that's funny," she said flatly, as she stumbled over the threshold and re-asserted her footing. "I say whatever the compass points to's gettin' closer, and look who shows up. Um... hang on..." Kyo didn't stop moving, broke into a jog away from the door in fact, but as she did, the green-haired girl worked at her inside jacket pocket, struggling to extract the compass from it as quickly as she could. Once it was out, she held it up, looking frantically to the needle. Which direction was it coming from again? Which way, which way...? |

Kakeru froze when he heard the familiar sound. He glanced at others before he nodded after Naoya suggesting them to go out as soon as possible. Despite the sound, however, there's no way they could figure out where that thing would be coming from. And he knew to fight it would be foolish, so it would be better to get out of this place. Kakeru was behind the two as they moved, and he occasionally glanced behind, in case that thing suddenly showed up behind them. He knew that he would never stand a chance, but if that thing showed up, he would do anything to allow the others to escape. |

While the Reaper normally appeared by bursting through a nearby wall, its appearance this time was somewhat more sedate. The clanking of chains grew steadily louder, and then a long, deformed shadow was cast upon a wall further down the corridor before the silhouette of the thing that cast it appeared. The needle of the ringing compass pointed directly at it. "Evade!" Naoya shouted, scrambling around a corner and casting sukukaja on himself as the Reaper cast a spell: a wave of darkness washed down the hallway. Mold bloomed on the walls, spreading at an accelerated rate and withering, dying. The banks of semi-functional fluorescent lights ubiquitous on this level of the ruins burst, those closest to the Reaper going first. The linoleum of the floors cracked and peeled. |

"Shit," Kyo hissed, eyes flitting from the compass to the Reaper and back again. "Well, that's handy!" The wave of darkness rushing toward them wasn't something Kyo wanted to be hit by, null or not; enchanted weapons like "Shizuka" didn't come cheap, after all, and the sooner the Reaper figured out that she was immune to an element, the sooner it would just flat-out stop casting it at her. The green-haired girl wasted no time in snatching Kakeru's hand and sprinting around the corner after Naoya, though she couldn't help flipping the Shadow the middle finger with the hand that held the compass just before she made it behind cover--tugging Kakeru along with her, of course. "So, Reaper alarm!" Kyo shouted in an almost hysterical voice as she ran. "Nice find, eh?! It's about time karma paid me back for throwing that thing at me so many times! We're not that far from the exit, right?" There was a note of panic in question: for as she asked it, Kyo realized she wasn't sure how far from the exit they actually were. In fact, she couldn't quite remember what path they'd taken to get here. It was all a bit of a blur, and she was sure it would come to her if she had a moment to stop and focus, but the back of her head pounded with every step just now and... oh, jeez, never mind. Run! |

Kakeru could barely avoid the wave of darkness, and he could feel his muscles tensed slightly. Before he could move on his own, Kyo already grabbed his hand and followed Naoya, pulling him together with her. He almost dropped his sword when the green-haired girl pulled him. Despite the presence of the Reaper, Kakeru couldn't help but to snark a little. "Kyo, aren't you aware that I can walk on my own?" he said as Kyo brought him along, but he just let the girl did her thing as he allowed her to pull her along. |

"I dunno!" Naoya shouted back, zipping around a corner. At the very least they could make themselves hard to hit -- walls would slow it down, right? -- he took the corner too fast, and briefly fell down onto all fours, scrambling awkwardly along the ground before he managed to get back up onto his legs. "Just...shit! Shit!" He had no idea where they were going. They had followed that arm-ball thing for a while, but which ways had they gone? Trapped far from the entrance, with the reaper on their heels? He knew how this story ended. Oh, shit, oh, shit, oh, shit. For its part, the Reaper pursued, switching tactics. The smell of ozone filled the hallway, and the three persona users could feel their hair slowly rising as static electricity built up. Suddenly, a flash filled the hallway, and the smell grew much more intense: fifth tier lightning magic. Naoya, luckily, was leading the way, zigzagging away from the super-shadow at a great speed. If Kyo and Kakeru were following his lead, and putting solid walls between them and it, they might be able to avoid the attack, at least in part. |

"Right, right! Sorry!" Kyo said, letting go of Kakeru's hand. "Shit, shit, shit, but if we get away from this thing it will be so worth it--!" Kyo felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand up, and smelled the smell, and yelped, but made it around the corner in time that the brunt of the spell missed... she felt her body seize up for a moment anyway, as if she had touched a finger to a half-inserted power plug, and stumbled. Was that what it was like to be grazed by an electric spell...? Did electricity even work that way?! Oh, whatever-- Kyo caught a glimpse of a room through an open door--full of medical equipment, including what looked like an MRI way in the back--and realized where they were. "We ain't got far t'go!" she called, sweeping her arm in a beckoning motion. "Right, right from here, then left, then straight and we're back where we started, c'mon!" |

"Ngh!" Kakeru gritted his teeth when the massive electricity spell almost hit him. The smell of ozone lingered in the air, making it hard for the former child-assassin to breathe. He was lucky that it didn't hit him. If it did, he might get fried to crisp. He looked at others and was relieved when they seemed mostly alright. But they still needed to get away safely from the chained guy that was chasing after them. "Alright," he said, following the others. He was behind the group as he occasionally glanced at the Reaper to see its next action. |

"Two rights?" Naoya squawked, taking the first one. "Or did y' mean just th'...th'..." The Reaper charged after them, managing to turn and fire a barrage of bullets that would have made John Woo proud. It had to stop and backtrack to follow them, buying the three persona users a few more seconds. Naoya dropped into a crouch as the bullets flew over his head, the massive projectiles causing the ceiling to begin to collapse. It was not a full blown cave-in, but enough to cause some major difficulties if one wasn't careful. |
