Kyo had never felt so blown off her own high-horse as on the night when she had been laid low by one corrupt police officer. The fact that she was now being harassed by some anonymous Internet identity didn't help; not being able to make heads or tails of that memorial hint didn't help, either. Her stress levels were at an all-time high, but today, those stress levels weren't accompanied by a headache, and she didn't feel that distinct pressure in her head, either. She'd had a good week to recuperate, most of it spent at home with a few days at school once she felt confident in her ability to be out and about. Those days had been frustrating, though. Normally Kyo's school performance was pretty alright. When it came to listening to lectures, she was still fine, but there had been a quiz or two thrown in and her memory had worked with a jerky, inconsistent slowness that she associated usually with sleep deprivation. It wasn't a critical disadvantage, and it would no doubt go away with a bit more time, but it was irritating. Kyo didn't like feeling like her own mind wasn't trustworthy, whether it was a Persona-related issue or an ordinary one.

While Kyo had voiced plans to mount an exploration attempt in the areas of the ruins that had been recently blasted open, she wasn't quite confident that she was fit for that yet. Today she just wanted to blaze a trail through familiar territory, get herself back into the fight if she could, confirm that she wasn't well enough for it if that was the case. So she dropped her bag in front of her usual entrance, unzipped it, and withdrew her two kodachi, strapping them to the back of her usual ruins-wear. It was getting colder out, so the jacket she wore--dark brown--was zipped up today. There were some token first aid supplies in the pockets as usual, a habit she'd picked up from her friend, Shizuka. Her choice of pants today were simple dark-blue cargo pants, and her shoes? Combat boots.

She had invested in several pairs of these. Most girls her age would have an assortment of slippers, sandals, sneakers, and possibly heels in their closet, but Kyo? Nah. Combat boots.

Kyo herself wasn't really sure if that was funny, badass, or a little sad.

The green-haired girl leaned against the wall of her chosen entrance, clip-on headphones quietly playing music as her right eye casually swept the scene in front of her. Night was falling, she had to be away from the apartments anyway, so she'd decided to make this ruins dive before her visit to Chika's house this night. Chika's bedroom was far enough away from her foster parents' room that Kyo could sleep there without draining anyone... anyone but Chika, who had volunteered... Chika, who would feel utterly dead in the morning, and--

Kyo let out a frustrated breath. Of all the people who'd volunteered, she felt both most obligated by and least deserving of Chika's offer to help. She, who Kyo had spoken so harshly to. Chika hadn't even wanted to talk to Kyo until that interview had gone up--what had changed? Kyo was to afraid of what might be done or said if the subject of their falling out ever came up to ask her friend directly, so all she could do was ponder and puzzle and...

...and that was pointless. Kyo pulled out her phone, and checked the time. The two who'd been open for tonight would probably be here in a few minutes...

Surprisingly, this time Kakeru didn't get lost. He managed to reach the place where he could meet up with Kyo. Wearing his normal clothes, which consisted of black jacket, gray turtleneck shirt, denim pants and a pair of boots, the former assassin brought along his three swords; Hanamatsuri, Rekka and the unnamed bronze sword. As a precaution, he also brought his old revolver (the one that he occasionally used during his time as an assassin), which he hated to use.

He had called Isoroku to ask her whether she wanted to join or not, but she declined. Perhaps she was still depressed because all her guns were confiscated by Shin. She was lucky because she didn't get arrested for owning firearms illegally. But she was still depressed and Kakeru thought that she might need some time alone.

As he finally arrived at the entrance, he spotted Kyo. He approached the green-haired girl before he raised his hand to greet her. "Yo," he said. "What's up?" he asked. He thought that there might be other person to join the team.

Naoya had produced so much equipment in his downtime that he couldn't really take all of it in the ruins at once. He had left his war gear at home, and come in what he was beginning to think of as his exploration gear. Jeans and a flannel shirt -- both soaked in boric acid for fire retardant purposes, -- a hooded sweatshirt for warmth, with his shield on his arm and urumi about his waist. His own boots had been buffed, shined, and treated with fungicide after the mudo spam he had encountered last time.

He hummed snatches of tuneless music as he walked up the hill towards the entrance Kyo was planning on using. Up near the top, he saw Kakeru and her, and raised his right hand to signify that he had spotted them. He began to double-time it up to the top of the hill.

"Heeeey~" was Kyo's greeting to Kakeru as he approached. She smiled at first but then, her grin faded. "Things goin' okay, dude? Chika mentioned y'asked Naoya for one o' them limiter ring things. Is that thing o' yours actin' up or somethin'? I thought the problem was solved..."

But the green-haired girl trailed off cautiously as she caught movement in the corner of her eye, further down the path. "Speak o' the devil..." she muttered when she looked past Kakeru to confirm who it was. And who else was it but Naoya Imoto himself? She raised a hand in greeting, stepping to the side so she was more clearly visible to the other boy. "Yo! Good of ya t'make it! We ain't goin' too far in this time, so unless we got another big Shadow that's wandered up from below, this'll just be a gettin'-back-into-it thing."

She looked to Kakeru.

"Isoroku mighta toldya, but I took a bit of a bump t' the head recently," she added sheepishly. "I mostly just wanna make sure I'm fightin' fit. I hope I'm fightin' fit. Needta reaffirm my 'manliness' by beatin' up somethin' small n' helpless, y'know? Otherwise my poor bruised ego just ain't ever gonna heal."

Kakeru shrugged. "Heh, it's not a big deal..." he said. "As long as I don't go to the ruins alone, I should be alright..." well, because he might lose his control, he needed someone to snap him out of it. Then, Naoya showed up, and he also raised his hand in greeting. "Hey..." he said to the recently-arrived Naoya.

"Yeah, Isoroku told me that..." Kakeru nodded. "Hope you're alright, Kyo," he said. He knew that Kyo had a tendency to run straight into trouble most of the time. "No problem at all. You can count on me for this..." he told Kyo. This was also his chance to find things to fight. The stronger those things, the better.

Naoya heard Kyo's comment as he got closer to the two. Immediately, he sighed. "It'd be right awful if'n one did, y'know? I've had damned near enough 'f big shit comin' up from down below."

He reached inside the space in the shield where he normally carried a jar of "emergency thermite" and pried loose the lightning bug. He shook it to wake it up and then set it in the air by his right shoulder. It wavered in the air as if staggered, and then held steady -- the automaton pointed its head first in Kyo's direction, then in Kakeru's, then seemed to lose interest.

"Well, if we run into anything really...uh...y'know, if you get yerself injured, I c'n still patch you up. C'n even go 'round th' injuries your tryin'a hold onto, provided I got time t' focus."

Kyo opened her mouth to reply to Kakeru, with a Thanks, pal or something to that affect, but when she looked to Naoya, there was a familiar thing. A very familiar thing. In fact she'd just seen it the other night because it turned out resting at home to recover from a concussion was a decent time slot to slip some of her toku backlog into...

"Uh..." Kyo said, with a bit of a laugh, slowly smiling and pointing up at the robot. "D'you have, like, d'ya actually have like a robot replica o' the motherfuckin' Bee Zecter? Where the hell'd ya get a thing like that?"

Kakeru blinked when he saw the lightning bug. Fascinating, he thought to himself. He nodded after Kyo asked Naoya about where he got that thing. He looked at the flying, mechanical object for a while before he looked at Naoya.

"Where did you get that?" he asked, curious.

"Huh?" Naoya said, then looked at the automaton. "Er...it was...y'know...it was a thing Toru had. He corroded th' hell outta the poor thing, so I fixed up th' mechanism 'n' replated it. Callin' it th' Lightnin' Bug. 'Cause 'f...y'know, th' electricity thing it can do with its stinger. Anyway...shall we get...y'know, get goin'?"

He strapped on his shield and unfurled his weapon.

"BeeZector," he muttered, shaking his head. "What kinda name's..."

"Toru Watanabe had a livin' toku toy?" Kyo blurted out incredulously, before forcing her mouth shut and awkwardly scratching her nose. "Er--well, anyway, funny what sorta weird shit ya find in the ruins, eh? I'm guessin' he found it down there anyways, it's from uh, a Kamen Rider series. Specifically Kabuto. Let's get movin'..."

Kyo coughed into her fists and skipped on into the entrance, and up the slight rocky incline that led into what appeared to be the most anonymous three-way ruins corridor intersection ever--literally the only distinguishing characteristic here was the cave opening she had just entered through. "Don't use this way in much," she said. "The stairs are all a ways off from here. But that's kinda the point today, less chance o' runnin' into a real nasty over here, yeah? Incidentally, this's the entrance Hotaru hauled me out when I awakened."

She laughed, drawing her dual kodachi set and giving them a light, experimental scissor-swing in front of her, making sure not to bring the blades too close to either of the others.

"The Reaper was one of the first two Shadows I ever saw. Talk about bad omens..."
