So, at least one of them could heal. Surely, they'd need that if things were going wrong. And she had a sick, sneaking suspicion that that's just where things were headed. Little did she know just how bad things were, at least not yet. When she first beheld the Shadow. Her first reaction was completely instinctual and well beyond her control: Mortal terror in the face of that so alien to the world as she knew it that she recoiled. How could she do anything otherwise? Though she gasped, and though she wanted nothing more than to run away that was no option. Eri Charinko was in there, and if the only way to help her was though this thing? Then …so be it. "BURN IT AWAY!" Her composure was robbed of her, and it took a moment before she could line up a shot with her shaking hands, she attacked the Bundle with two shots moments after her Persona was summoned and attacked it with an Agi. |

"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"
|
When Maki Yamada came into view, the Bundle turned its singular eye on her and its mouth slowly opened, an upside-down expression of hunger accompanied by another string of drool. One arm and then one leg crept forward on the ceiling, bringing it closer... closer... It saw the second human approaching along with this one, and for a moment it was undecided. Should it attack with another wind spell, or the weaker, wider-reaching darkness spell? Maybe Sukukaja instead, let the woman make the first mo-- Two gunshot rang out, accompanied by a fire spell. Hesitation cost the monster dearly. It took a blast to the shoulder and jerked back; the second shot pounded into the right side of its chest, and now blackish-red, oozing blood accompanied the drool on its way out of the Bundle's mouth as it lost a grip with its hands on the ceiling and clung with nothing but its legs to support it. Pained, dizzy, and now in no frame of mind for even its own primitive attempts at strategic consideration, the Bundle flailed an arm at the two Persona-users, lobbing a poorly-aimed Mamudo spell at the floor between them. If they were quick--if Maki rushed forward and Rozen, backward--the two might be able to escape the radius of the entropic magic before it exploded, however. --- Eri ran, ran and kept screaming. She could be heard now from a place not far away from Kaya and Harkens, and by Isoroku as well, her screams echoing from the labyrinthine passages to the west. "HERE! I'M HERE! SOMEONE! WHOEVER YOU ARE! I CAN'T FIGHT, I DON'T HAVE A PERSONA, PLEASE--" It didn't occur to Eri in this moment of panic that having a Persona was in fact the reason she was here, even knowing what the butterfly's evident purpose was. It didn't even occur to her that her would-be rescuers might find it odd that she even knew what the word "Persona" meant. She didn't think of the voice she'd heard, didn't think of fighting at all, didn't look back to see if that one-eyed thing was still chasing after her. Around a corner she went, and then down another hall like a cannonball, and then she found another door on her righthand side, hanging open. Panting, she stopped next to it, in front of it, looking in, empty, it was empty, and then she looked back, the monster wasn't there anymore-- She rushed in, and slammed the door closed behind her, holding it shut, leaning back against it. She shook, and looked around the room. Ransacked. It was an office, and it had been ransacked and destroyed. There were cubicles here, or what had been cubicles before pieces had been broken off and scattered about the place, but she now saw that her first impression might be incorrect... a good half of these cubicles were still at least partway intact, a good four or five of them, and each might have been a hiding place for some kind of monster. She stilled herself. Held her breath. Looked slowly from one concealing barrier to the next, and gulped. In that moment she felt a wild, irrational urge to ask the room aloud: Is anything in here? Eri barely, barely managed to suppress this urge, because that would have been (as her daughter would have phrased it) really fucking stupid. Steady yourself. You needn't cower in the background any longer. Even you have the power to take control of your fate... Eri let out a gasp. "Who's there?!" she asked. It took a moment for her to realize that the voice hadn't come from any particular direction, nor had she heard it with her eardrums. This only perplexed her, for Kyo had not been thorough enough in her explanation to make her mother aware that this "Persona" power involved mysterious voices speaking in one's mind. And she didn't have time to consider it. The next thing Eri heard she did hear with her eardrums: a confirmation that there was something in here that wasn't human. It was an oozing, slurping sound, joined by another, and then another, and then another. Each of them was coming from inside one of the cubicles. Eri blindly groped for the doorhandle, missing, then grabbing it and trying to push the door open instead of pulling like she should. Steady yourself, she heard the voice say. Be calm and fight. For your family... for the only family you have... |

Once again, Isoroku heard that voice. This time, it was closer. She continued onward, going towards the direction of the scream that she heard. she was positive that it was Kyo's mother. After evading some obstacles like Shadows and some other things, she was getting closer. But it would take a while before she could find her. |

Rozen had her mask out the second Maki took off after Eri's closest sound. When she rounded the corner behind Maki, and caught a fleeting glimpse of *SOMETHING* hanging from the ceiling with one massive eye staring right at them, she slapped her mask on right that second. The three forms of Brighid materialized and spun in the air as Rozen held out a hand at the creature. "Flatten it Brighid!" She said as the Facade stopped spinning with the Yellow Tunic wearing Brighid facing the Bundle. Raising it's iron and hammer it made a soundless strike, and an unseen physical presence made an attempt to strike the shadow face on with force. Unlike Maki who's psyche has been gripped with fear, Rozen started to lose focus, but for her, is was a loosened grip of priority, looking between Maki, the bundle and the hallway bend she was in, Rozen quickly retraced her steps backwards, effectively evading the Mamudo spell in advance. Kaya and Harkens soon found themselves seeing a woman enter a door. Odds are that was probably their target. Walking up to the door, they heard a struggle to open the door. Kaya then took off her helmet as she knocked on the door gently and said, "We know your daughter, Mrs. Charinko. We're here to help." Harkens meanwhile kept watch, making sure to warn of anyone, or anything that's coming. |

Dodging was a tall order when her legs felt like they were fixed to the floor. She had no choice but to get hit by the blast, her pistol would gain a thin layer of corrosion, and her uniform would instantly be a Mamudo seeped into her, sapping strength, and withering flesh. Once more, she relied on Xie Zhai, and the beast attacked with another Agi spell. She closed her eyes and tried desperately to get ahold of her senses. Despite the Mamudo spell she was doing fine… for the moment. But how long could she keep this up? She had to steady her hands, and calm her nerves, and act decisively. People were depending on her to do just that. Even though she just wanted to scream and run away, for their sake? She'd stand and fight this thing as long as it took. To help steel her mind, she turned to what else? Movies. She whispered to herself in English. "I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing......Only I will remain." |

"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"

The Bundle's grip on the ceiling was already tenuous at best. Rozen's counterattack dislodged its right foot, and Maki's, the left. Bleeding from its bullet wounds, smoking from direct contact with fire magic, its face visibly battered by Brighid's Bash attack, the Shadow flopped painfully to the floor and writhed there for a moment, dizzied. Then a faint flash of Sukukaja magic enveloped its body, and with sudden speed, it flopped over onto its belly, onto all fours, and then is leapt up, pounced, straight at the injured Maki Yamada, its long-nailed fingers flashing in an attempt to slash at the police officer's squishy midsection. Or at least, that was what it looked like, but instead the monster swiped its hands through the air before it even reached Maki. Faint cutting lines permeated the air, slashing out like projectiles from the points the Bundle's jagged nails swiped through: a Gale Slash attack, and there were three thin nail-swipes flying at each of the two humans... --- A gentle knock at the door. Eri's first instinct was to let out a small, aborted scream, her first thought that the other monster had pursued her and was on the other side of the door, and if she opened it that monster would take her by the neck as it had that Shouta boy, and would wring the life out of her and then leave her broken on the floor as it had him. "We know your daughter, Mrs. Charinko..." The name. Her last name. Her daughter. It clicked into place then. Kyo, her darling Kyo, she was so smart and she cared after all, she'd gotten people to go look when her mother hadn't shown up as planned, and she'd made sure to get some of the other magic-using Persona people to check that ruined laboratory under the city--this ruined laboratory--to be safe, maybe her daughter was even here herself. Eri felt a fleeting moment of transcendent relief... ...and then the source of the slurping sounds made itself known. Black ooze creatures with barely-formed arm-like protrusions, the only solid parts of them were the masks they wore. Somehow this reminded Eri that her daughter's power, Persona, it was named with the Latin for mask, wasn't it? And her daughter had summoned that horrible whorish woman out of nowhere by putting on a strange, purple rubber mask that she'd called to her hand from nowhere... The slurping things, four of them, one each emerging from different cubicles. Two of them had masks bearing the Roman numeral "III," and two, the numeral "IV." Eri had no idea what significance to attach to that, but the masks were also different colors and shapes, two pairs, each sharing the same numeral and shape as their counterparts. The first pair, Haughty Mayas, the nearest ones, sludged their way closer, and the ones further to the back of the office, Frivolous Mayas, began to simultaneously spark with what looked like electricity, magic, her daughter had spawned ice and these things could electrocute her to death and it would hurt, electrocution hurt, did electrocution hurt? She imagined it did and she didn't want to find out if she was right-- Eri whipped around, opened the door with an almighty tug and an inarticulate yell, and without thinking barreled into the hallway--and, directly into Kaya Kazama. |

Isoroku knew that she was getting closer to the target as she heard another yell. She accelerated herself and cast Sukukaja on herself again, and this time, she was practically gliding as she moved forward. Then, she finally saw the target, along with some other people she believed were there to save Kyo's mother as well. So, Isoroku stopped herself a few meters away from them and she immediately noticed the presence of the Shadows. She reloaded her handgun before she looked at Kyo's mother. "Charinko-san, is that you?" she asked. If it's her, then it's good. Then again, it had to be her, because she somehow looked like Kyo, with several obvious differences. "We're here to save you," she said to the woman reassuringly. Isoroku conjured her mask with her other hand and put it on her face before she summoned her Persona, Penitent Gretchen. The witch appeared above the part-time model, and the others could feel a slight breeze as she showed up. |

Rozen, having gotten out of sight of the Bundle, managed to regain her composure and peeked around the corner. That was when she just barely saw the Gale Cut's effects. Closing her eyes, making a light screaming sound, and ducking to the ground... Didn't help, as Rozen was blasted off her feet and flat onto her back from the phantasmal attack, several small cuts starting to bleed as a result. |

Kaya was unprepared for Kyo's mother charging into her, but she held her ground. Nonetheless, she accidentally dropped her helmet to the ground as her other hand still held her weapon. Were this any other situation, she'd have an awkward moment and try to explain who she was. However, this was the time for Shadow-hunting and mom-protecting. Pushing her to the side, Kaya ran through the door and summoned up Callahan as a white strip of cloth appeared and wrapped itself around her face, only leaving her right eye visible. With a snap of her fingers, the Cop let out a burst of Magaru at the shadows. Harkens meanwhile took over the duty of having Mrs. Charinko in his arms. With a wink, he told her, "I see where she gets it from, ma'am. Oh, and erm... Beasties are in there." Raising his head to Isoroku, he quickly gestured towards the room that Kaya entered. |
