Sayuri would probably be lying to herself if she didn't admit that lunch was her favorite time of day.

Sure, schoolwork was important and the clubs. The times she went. Sometimes it was just enough for her to smell what scents wafted out of the Cooking Club meeting room when was slow to leave school. She was sure she didn't have a phobia but her nerves were frayed around large groups.

Lunch allowed her a break, finding out of way spaces to enjoy the contents of her box. Today it was a corner of the roof, though she didn't come up here often because the stairs were narrow.

Not that that was a phobia, certainly not. Of hers. Goodness, why was she thinking of phobias?

Maybe it had something to do with the height of the roof. Though she was far enough away from the fence, sitting on some vent component. The last of its sunned warmth entered her legs. Taiyoutono was only a few stories high, enough to see the city skyline stretch away.

Although maybe it was the slight chill that was making her uncomfortable. Which was odd because Sayuri rarely got could. Rather, she was too warm. Summers were positively sweltering.

Too bad there weren't any birds about. Sometimes Sayuri caught sight of them outside the classroom window, the moments when she wasn't paying as much focus.

Already her checks were full because of the onslaught of some kind of dumplings stuffed into her lunchbox. The box snapped open at the lightest touch and she didn't want anything to spill.

Aleph entered the rooftop area through the rooftop access door, carrying a boxed lunch, which was today filled with the usual rice and salmon with fried egg tofu. As he walked around the roof, he looked around for any sign of Suzu or Karma or the blue-haired boy or relatively anyone who would just plain give Aleph more trouble than he could mentally handle for today. So far, none of the aforementioned people were in sight, thankfully.

However, he did spot a hefty-looking girl eating lunch. She looked seemingly benign enough as far as appearance went, so Aleph didn't feel like worrying about any hostility or coldness. Now things had to just go smoothly on his part, and not let his social ineptitude get the better of him.

Aleph adjusted his red scarf, brushed his spiky hair aside, and walked over to the girl. "Hello." Aleph said, smiling. "I can sit with you?"

It was as Sayuri was swallowing a morsel that the boy appeared out of the corner of her vision. It was all she could do to not choke on a dumpling, though she stifled a short coughing fit.

"--Eh, oh, um, if you wish," Sayuri said barely above a whisper. Not only was she uncomfortable when people got too close to her she found his diction to be odd. More like a command than asking to sit.

She shuffled along the vent, the bending metal echoing along the shaft. Sayuri couldn't immediately place the boy. She at least knew he wasn't in her class. 1-1 or 1-2 maybe, one of the classrooms at the start of the hall. He was cute if with sharp, almost severe features. But she didn't know why he wanted to sit with her.

Sayuri took to keeping her eyes out towards the edge of the roof where the fence met the pavement.

Aleph sat next to the other girl, then opened the box and began to eat his lunch. He managed to get the greeting part fine. He ate his food for a moment until he decided to continue the interaction, for his own improvement.

Aleph swallowed his food before talking. "You look new." Aleph said to the girl. "Which class are you in? I'm in class 1-1."

Sayuri could feel a tremble in her knees even though she was sitting down. She had't touched the rest of her food in the minute since the boy had sat down. The tantalizing smell of his salmon and fried egg tofu made her look to his lunch box and look away again in less than a moment.

"N-Not necessarily--" Oh, that sounded like absolute rubbish as a reply. "I'm in class 1-5, Mz--" Her homeroom teacher's name was escaping her in her fluster, although she knew she knew it. "--well, you wouldn't be as likely to see me, and I don't often come up her if this is where you eat lunch."

Jiro Takenaka was bored, like he usually was at school. Good thing it was lunch time. He had decided that it may be fun to have his lunch on the roof. It wasn't much to look at, just some sushi and salmon. He then spotted Aleph along with some girl he didn't know.

"Well would you imagine this happy circumstance! I decide to have myself a nice school lunch on the roof and who do I find? Only my bestest buddy in the whole world and a pretty girl! What luck!"

He traipsed his way over to Aleph and the still unknown girl.

"May I have the honor of knowing your name, my fair maiden?"

He plopped himself down and looked over at Aleph with a grin, set his own lunch down and aimed to hook his arm over his shoulders.

"I see you've met my buddy Aleph. He's a real sweetheart if you get to know him. Don't let his good looks fool you, he's also got quite the brain."

He looked at the still yet to be named girl.

"Oh my, I seem to have left my manners at home! My name is Jiro Takenaka. A pleasure to meet you."

He then gave a second look at the girl.

"Waaaaait a minute! You're in 1-5 with me aren't you? Then you know the horrors that Shitsei brings daily!"

She'd been released from the hospital, partially at least. She'd still have to return several times a week for a few more weeks for her physical therapy, but she could walk on her own power! And as soon as she realized that, Hanako insisted on going back home and school!

Home was…terribly lonely, and quiet now. It was just her again by herself. She was considering asking if she could have moved into another place, honestly. But her first day back at school was great so far!

She arrived at the roof with a pair of store-bought salmon onigiri that would be her lunch. She was hoping that the roof would have been empty that day because she was apparently hit on the head so hard she forgot everyone goes to the roof.

Still, it was where she met her best friend for the first time. Besides, if other people were up there, they could just find a private corner their own to talk? Maybe she'd ask about that new kid who claimed to be Shou's brother? Or Maybe Hanako would find him in some quiet alley and ask him herself…

'No! Bad Hanako, Bad! You don't do that sort of thing anymore, right?'

Eh, right, sorry! Sorry! I guess I'll just ask him like normal about it…

There was so much to get used to now even with the time since the hospital. The low, sibilant voice of Medusa was a far cry from Clytie's articulate but hostile way of speaking. Or having conversations with her Persona that were entirely in her own head, or the fact that when she promised herself she wouldn't do anything to cause those who care about her undue grief, she took it upon herself to enforce that promise for Hanako.

Anyways, up the stairs! The petite girl with white hair left cascading down her shoulders, gray eyes and pale skin was the first one up. Before it focused on Aleph she made note of the two he was with: There was a first year girl who'd had a bit of meat on her bones and Serizawa sand and a bleached-blonde boy.

Hmmm, they were Serizawa's classmates, right? He'd seen them once or twice, but never met them. She finished climbing the stairs to give Machi a chance to come up, and also introduced herself with a bow.

"Oh! Hello, Serizawa-san! I didn't know you'd be up here!" Oh, he was there that time too, wasn't he? Alan as well. "Pleased to meet you! I'm Hanako Ito."

Well?

'…well what?'

Aren't you going to say something really mean about them that makes me embarrassed to share a mind with you? It's what Clytie would have done.

'Sweetheart, we've been over this before, remember? I'm not Clytie.'

"Oh? I guess so." Aleph said to the other girl. "I don't eat her very often. I only come up when I feel like getting away from everyone else. And it has a nice view of the city."

Then, Jiro and Hanako showed up. This was certainly a good thing. Aleph had hit it off with Jiro when they met, and Hanako just checked out the hospital. So, it was good time to not only bond with new ties and start another one, but also catch up with everything else.

"Hey Jiro-kun! Hey Hanako-san!" Aleph said, waving to both of them. He then noticed Machi with Hanako, but decided not to speak to her, then gave her a little wave as well, remembering Hanako's words about leaving her be. Aleph then chuckled at Jiro's remark. "Oh, Jiro-kun. You're making me blush."

Aleph decided to also introduced himself to the girl. "Nice to meet you as well." He said, smiling. "I'm Akira Serizawa. My friends call me Aleph."

And for once, I actually have friends who actually call me that. Well, sort of.

I call you Aleph, don't I?

Only during the times when you act like a prick and snark at me. Other times, you just call me Master like I'm some kind of Ojou or something.

Yeah, but still I treat you like a prince, don't I?

True.

Oh my!

Just when Sayuri was warming up to the conversation, more people began showing up out of nowhere. It made her feel like the mole puppet in a whack-a-mole game. She wanted to duck down back into her hole away from everyone's whackers.

"S-S-Sayuri," she replied. "Ueda." Pretty girl? Her?? She knew Jiro from their shared homeroom, how he was very loud. By this point she was blushing peach on her face, though this was more from Jiro's language about their teacher. "Well she's not, well she is a bit, but not that scary--"

Then there was Hanako, plus Jiro plus Aleph, plus a very tall and very blonde girl with odd eyes. Sayuri caught herself staring and dropped her gaze again, she wasn't sure who she should be looking at or if she could continue eating. It felt rude. And the vent was becoming crowded.

Machi was completely over the moon over her very best friend finally being able to get out of the hospital and returning to school. She was still quite worried over Hanako walking around alone, however...

...And thus, she made the incredibly one-sided decision of walking with her everywhere.

The historian had asked Hanako for lunch with the hidden intent of speaking to her privately - ask her to move out of that house perhaps. After all that happened, and her history with Seiichi, it would be be best if Hanako took some 'vacations'. She didn't know where Hanako could possibly stay instead, but wouldn't have much trouble paying for a room somewhere so she could stay away from that house filled with bad memories.

Of course, such intentions were soon torn apart when they reached the roof.

Machi's eyes scanned the premises - it was predictable that someone would be up in the roof, as always, though she vainly hoped it wouldn't be anyone they knew. On second thought, she should've brought her friend over to the Tea Ceremony room. It was always quiet, plus there was a good chance they'd run into Momoko there. Oh well!

The first person she noticed was Aleph. She couldn't help but feel slightly irritated at the lack of a verbal greeting - it would only be polite, after all - and thus decided not to respond in kind, forcing a smile to her face. "Good afternoon, Serizawa-san." She didn't particularly have that sentiment, after their last 'conversation' in Bedlam. Regardless, feeling somewhat stressed, her fingers discreetly seemed to twist and turn at her own engagement ring.

Such had been a very annoying habit she picked up ever since a certain fateful event, a clear indicator of distress to anyone who knew her. She really needed to take a hold of it.

The other two, she did not know. She noticed the female stare somewhat awkwardly, and decided to offer her a warm smile to set things at ease - Machi was used to such things. As Hanako introduced herself, she felt like she had to do the same, bowing ever so slightly.

"Machi Kijimuta. It's nice to meet you both." Once straightening herself, despite paying attention to the possible conversation being born, she reached inside of her bag, retrieving her lunch. And tea.

Always the tea.
