Kuzuki flinched at the words "brutal beheadings", the memory of the bloody head bouncing off the pavement twisting knots into his stomach. He shrugged it off. Naoya didn't mean to bring it up, after all.

Besides, the enemy was what mattered now.

"So that means Naoya, Shane, and me are going for Nana," he said. He followed Shane and looked down the entrance, noting the passage straight to the north. That was the only one that mattered.

Naoya grimaced at the decision that he wouldn't be pursuing Tower -- that doppelganger had been produced from his Uncle, and he had been hoping to handle it -- and was somewhat nonplussed that the decision of where he would go was made without consulting him. He suspected that he was the strongest of the people present other than Kakeru, so it would have made sense to send him after the more powerful doppelganger.

Perhaps, though, they would finish off the false Samurakami and be able to assist with the other one. Still, it seemed like a misallocation of strength.

This was why he was usually reluctant to work in groups. Still, if it was going to be done, best to do it quickly.

"Alright. 'Less either 'f you 'r fireproof, might be best f'r me t' take point. Let's get goin'."

"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"
"Uh... dude," Shane said, quirking an eyebrow at Kuzuki. "Who died and made you Queen of England? I said whoever thinks they're strong enough for Carter should go that way. Naoya didn't phone in his answer yet."

The coat-wearing boy shrugged, and said to Naoya, "Go whichever way you want. I'm not fireproof, but I am bludgeon-proof, bullet-proof, sword-proof, basically everything physical-proof. So I can take point just as easy."

Masumi winced a bit, then shrugged and turned toward the ruins. "I'll lead us to wherever that Carter Grace fake is, then. Kakeru-kun, Kunagiri-san, please follow me. Naoya-san as well, if you disagree with Harada-san. Let's take these things down before they do any harm."

The blue-haired boy stepped into the ruins ahead of her, and called, "B-Team, come with me. Let's get this the fuck over with."

Shane skipped down the stairs two at a time, leapt off the fifth one up, and landed in a crouch at the bottom before proceeding straight for the middle path. Masumi took the stairs the traditional way: one at a time. If anyone in this group other than Shane tried that, they'd probably hurt their ankles rather badly.

Wordlessly, Kakeru nodded and followed Masumi. He knew that it would be quite a difficult battle, but it was something that he was looking forward to because fighting a strong opponent was one thing that made him feel truly alive.

"Wait for me~" Shiki said merrily to the two before she glanced at Naoya, waiting for his decision.

Kuzuki's cheeks prickled with heat as he realized his mistake. "Well, I thought Naoya would be coming with us, seeing as he isn't, well, keen on being a, um, distraction." He sighed and ruffled his hair. "Er, never mind. Sorry, Naoya." He turned and followed Shane down the stairs, one hand on the hilt of his sword.

I really ought to watch when I open my mouth, he thought to himself.

"I brought th' ordinance 'cause I figured I'd be goin' after th' big fish. Far's I know, the Samurakami-clone's small fry. 'Least in comparison," Naoya said. "'Course, I ain't innerested in leavin' nobody high 'n' dry...Figure I'll go after th' Tower, less you two think you'll need th' backup."

He checked the valves on the flamethrower, and proceeded after Masumi. He figured that neither Kuzuki nor Shane would be willing to admit to needing backup and Tower was a bit more of a problem. Besides, if his uncle wasn't going to clean up the mess, it fell to Naoya.

"The Reaper's in a whole other class, Kuzuki," Shane said lazily, stretching his arms and cracking his knuckles before proceeding down the middle corridor. "Little Nanako goes around telling everyone she's Death, but I go around dressed like a motherfucking videogame character and that don't make me any closer to being Dante than the rest of us. And Carter Grace is just a fuckass with a creepy mask. Posers, see? They can take him."

With a glance back at Naoya, he drew his skull-sword and propped the blade up on his shoulder. "We'll be fine. I've gone up against the real one, once. Didn't fare so well, but she had help that time. Even if the lightning weakness is a thing, if this one's not as powerful as the real one, I can take it if the scales are in my favor. And if I can't, I'll just run the fuck away. Easy. You guys just focus on taking down that other one."

And with that, he was off and down the hall. Masumi shook her head a bit at the boy's nonchalance, and turned toward her own destination, closing her eyes and folding her hands in front of her. As she walked, her veil-mask appeared over her face and she bit down on her lower lip, calling Pharos into being. The lighthouse appeared in the customary flash of blue light, illuminating the path... widening her range, which she then pushed out as far as she could, trying to search out the telltale signs of either the Tower copy or the dancer-Shadow that had spawned it.

"Give me a moment. I'll try to find us a clear path to our target..."

---

Shane and Kuzuki did not have the benefit of a scanner to get them to their objective without obstruction. They also didn't have the benefit of a scanner to help them find their objective. Clicking his tongue, Shane glanced to the left, and then to the right. The sheer number of doors and rooms they would have to search was already frustrating as hell. The boy knew better than to just barrel into each room one after another, though; that could land the two of them in some pretty deep trouble.

"Kuzuki, how strong are you, exactly?" Shane asked, edging toward the first door. "Strong enough to blast away any small-fry Shadows that try to slow us down, maybe? My Persona's got some kick to it, but this'll go a whole lot faster if we don't have to peek inside every room and then quietly creep away..."

Kakeru and Shiki looked at Masumi who was searching for their target. Kakeru then looked at their surroundings so he could react to anything that suddenly showed up. Preferably with a shot of Bufudyne or Megidola. He also thought about what Shane was saying earlier. Reckless was something that he could call that guy. He knew that he was also reckless, in a way, but that guy simply took the cake.

Meanwhile, Shiki happily hummed a tune as she took out her tanto, Nanase. While waiting for Masumi to find their target, the kindergarten teacher balanced the tanto with her finger. She was curious about their target. So, she couldn't help but to look forward for their encounter.

"I know that," Kuzuki said. What little he'd heard about the Reaper only served to make him strain his ears for the rattling of chains every time he visited the Ruins. "I have never encountered the Reaper before though. Though there's always a first time, they say."

He stopped for a moment at the bottom of the stairs just to mark the way out with his ever-present chalk. Then, he followed Shane down the way he took, and stepped into a passage filled with doors.

"Kuzuki, how strong are you, exactly?" asked Shane.

"I have several second-tier spells," Kuzuki said, the words strange on his tongue. "I believe I can clear out most Shadows on these floors without a problem." As if to demonstrate, he peered through one of the doors, a Zio spell in hand. The only things inside were a few upended filing cabinets. "This one's clear," he said.

Naoya sparked the flamethrower, producing a blue tongue of flame at the business-end of the weapon, and kept his eyes peeled. He kept the weapon pointed backwards, not wanting to risk accidentally injuring anyone. He liked both Kagami-san and Suzuki-san, but didn't know the third person. Needless to say, accidentally roasting a stranger wasn't high on his to-do list.

"Any idea where 'e is?" Naoya asked. The question was directed at Masumi, though he had no idea what sort of range she was working with. It could be impossible to find Tower, especially if he was lurking far from the entrance.
