Upupupupu~!
Aleph and Yuka followed the group deeper into the rotting, stench-filled maw that was the ruins until right out of nowhere they came upon four one-eyed spider robot things. Shit.

Aleph looked at the eyeball spider robots as the poison effect started to disappear, then unsheathed his saber and quickly charged at one of the eyeball robots, aiming a stab right in its eyeball.

Meanwhile, Yuka quickly assessed the situation, then casted a Tarukaja on Chika, keeping her katana at the ready.

Akio gave a nod, silently taking his place behind Maki, keeping his bokken at the ready if anything came their way - or rather, keeping a Garu at the ready to turn his wooden saber into something that could actually inflict damage to things that weren't jelly or slime. Oh, and his other spells, too. These could be useful as well.

Then... clicking. Coming from a bunch of different directions, which was bad news, because being taken in a stranglehold kind of sucked as a combat situation. Charging right at the unknown Shadows without any care for a battle plans or strategy was, in Akio's mind, quite a baffling combat decision - but he didn't have time to berate Aleph for his decision.

"Don't charge blindly !" was all that he said in reaction to Aleph's charge, before casting a Sukukaja on Chika - he wasn't sure if casting a Tarukaja on the girl had been a good idea, but adding a speed buff to the attack one would do wonders to turn the red-haired girl into an effective machine of destruction.

She remained at her guard when it sounded like they were going to be attacked from multiple sides. She had her gun up and ready to fire, when she got her first good look at the Shadows, a strange thought occurred to her:

Arachnophobia, 1990. Starring Jeff Daniels, and John Goodman.

She didn't question why she had such a thought, and had no time too, even before she could line up a shot at the nearest one, Serizawa had taken it upon himself to rush out and get in the way of her line of fire.

"Serizawa! Be careful! Don't rush off on your own!"

He was resistant to fire, right? Carefully, she decided to attack the Shadow with an Agi spell towards the Piercing Strider. She hoped her aim was true, but if it wasn't? At least it would have been less disastrous than buckshot.

Chika held her sword at the ready. She couldn't help but grimace when Aleph charged in without waiting, right into Maki's line of fire. But Maki could handle that situation; there were two Shadows in the opposite direction, and as Chika readied her katana, she could feel two enchantments cast on her--one that made her feel physically stronger, like Natsumi's Tarukaja spell, and one that sharpened her perceptions and reflexes: she could feel that this Sukukaja spell significantly outstripped Kizuna's enchantment in terms of potency.

She turned to face the two Striders that Aleph and Maki weren't going for. She had speed, she had power... and if she remembered... physical attacks were effective? Or had Shin Imoto simply been so powerful that his attacks would lay these monsters low with ease regardless? There was only one way to find out, and she was wary of it simply because it meant putting herself in direct danger of physical attack as well, but...

As Maki's fire spell blazed past Aleph, igniting the creature's left flank and causing it to cringe, Aleph's own attack--a saber stab--struck true during this moment of vulnerability. At the same moment, Chika sprinted forward, like the wind, suppressing her hesitation. A flick of her wrist had sent a Mamudo spell at both Striders on her side of the melee; this, however, was simply a smokescreen, and hopefully it would stagger both Shadows--

"Ah!"

As she came within striking distance, she came to understand an unfortunate thing. The Mamudo cloud dissolved before she entered it, and she swung horrizontally, aiming to sever the bottom Strider's front two appendages. But only small hints of rust showed on either Strider, they had a resistance to her first mode of attack. Even as the Shadow that Maki and Aleph had team-attacked fell to the ground, writhed, and began to melt, even as two legs flew free of Chika's own target, the Striders on the ceiling attacked as one.

Chika's target lunged forward, thrusting both of its front legs at the girl. She choked back a scream and threw herself backward, one of the legs cut a one-inch gouge in her left cheek and she stumbled, stumbled, barely keeping her feet as the monster advanced. The one beneath it advanced as well, lacking front legs it chose a different tactic--a spray of webbing, aimed at Chika's feet. Her backward momentum jerked to a halt, as her shoes refused to part company with the ground, and her upper body fell backward.

A cry of alarm became one of pain as both feet were jerked far too suddenly down from the ankles for her comfort. This, in turn, broke her focus on breaking her fall. Chika dropped her sword, which mercifully landed too far from her body to cause further injury when she landed, and--in a fortunate spark of reflexive genius--she threw both arms over the back of her head just before she hit the ground. The result: her knuckles impacted the linoleum, rather than her skull. It was painful, but it also meant she was still in the fight.

The remaining Strider on the other side skittered across the ceiling, pulling itself high over Aleph's head, and fired a larger mass of webbing at Maki Yamada, aiming to bind her up completely.

Hidden from view, the Agent of NONE mere feet away froze as if in anticipation.

Aleph watched as the Agi spell from Maki blazed past him and scorch the Strider, his attack had struck true on it and now it was beginning to dissolve back into ichor. However, Aleph noticed that Chika had her feet stuck by some strange webbing from another Strider.

Aleph rushed over to Chika and casted Dia on her. "You okay?" Aleph asked.

Yuka on the other hand, noticed an eyeball robot on the ceiling, shooting some webbing at Maki. Thinking quickly, Yuka casted a Magna and hurled the chunk of earth at the eyeball robot on the ceiling, while hoping that it wouldn't also cause part of the ceiling itself to cave in on everyone.

Akio leaped in Chika's direction at the same moment Aleph rushed over to her to heal her - he cast a Sukukaja on himself, sharpening his reflexes to make sure that he didn't get hit by the same attack as Chika. They shared a weakness to physical damage, which meant that he'd be a terrible human shield for the girl - but he could still help.

Using a Marin Karin would be a waste of energy, and getting up close would have been far too risky. The boy prepared a Garu, turning towards Aleph. "Serizawa-san, protect Nakadachi-san !" he said, keeping his saber at the read to parry any attack the two Shadows could throw in his direction.

There was one down, but that still meant they had to deal with several more. She couldn't drop her guard. It was evident that physical attacks were still effective against these sorts of Shadows. It was also apparent that Chika seems to have had a bad previous experience with these Shadows as well.

There wasn't any time to even so much as contemplate how unlucky she must have been to encounter two such Shadows in a row. (Or perhaps not, considering how easy it must be for so many to exploit her weaknesses.)

"If you can, get her away from the webbing too!"
Her focus shifted just in time to see the web coming her way. She reacted sensibly. Darting to the side in hopes of dodging, while her Persona cast a Sukukaja to increase her odds of successfully evading the sticky web.

But she wasn't quick enough. Her ankle ended up tethered to the linoleum floor, and thanks to that she abruptly fell to the ground. Her weapon clattered several feet from her, but she had a bigger problem: As soon as the Strider adjusted its aim, she was pinned against the floor by layers of strong, binding web.

It would take a good bit more than one first-tier Earth spell to cave in the ceiling, but it was enough to disrupt Yuka's target before its web-binding did more than pin Maki's gun-arm to her side, buffeting it backward so that its aim went askew, spraying sticky gray matter all along the wall to the right. Maki was left with one free arm, stuck to the ground but free enough that she would have been able to free herself...

...But then, it appeared, like a swooping phantom, that pale spy with his red sunglasses and his fedora. It dashed out of the door it had been hiding behind the whole time, whipping out its handgun, pointing at Yuka and firing off a quick shot. No time was taken to aim; it would probably just graze Yuka's arm if it even hit at all, but that was fine, the point was to render that potential enemy too busy saving her own skin to save the Agent's target.

And it skidded to stop next to Maki. For a moment it loomed over the woman, staring down into her eyes. Its sunglasses blinked again, shifting from red to black. Chika, twisting around on the ground, let out a cry of alarm to let the others know what was happening, and in her panic, she thrust out a palm toward the Agent of NONE. The spell she cast was an unfortunate choice: it was Mudo, and had no effect at all. The bolt of entropy dissolved on impact with the Agent's coat, leaving no sign of damage at all and not even catching the Agent's notice.

And then, it crouched low, taking Maki by one exposed shoulder, and in a flash of light, both the Agent and its captive were simply not there anymore. Perhaps hoping to use this turn of events as a distraction, both of the Piercing Striders on Chika's side of the hall lunched forward, slashing with their front legs or in one Strider's case, its front-middle legs. The ceiling Strider diverted for Aleph; the one on the floor, toward Akio.

Chika could hear the clacking, but all she could see was the vacant space on the floor, the ring of web residue, where Officer Maki Yamada had been a moment ago, and was no longer.

Yuka smirked as her Earth spell threw the Strider off of Maki and sent its webbing askew onto a wall. However, the triump was soon followed by a sharp pain on her arm.

"Gah!"

Yuka clenched her arm after she felt a bullet graze her arm. A bullet? Yuka quickly turned to see Maki disarmed by a robot eyeball web. What the hell shot her? Bah! It didn't matter now. Yuka quickly casted Dia on herself, only to notice a cry from Chika. Yuka looked at Maki again only to see a man wearing a fedora and sunglasses appear behind her, then both Maki and the fedora man disappear in a flash of light.

"Shit!"

Maki was gone. Where the hell did she go? Where the hell did that man take her? What was going to happen to her? Shit. Yuka couldn't do a thing. All she could was keep fighting.

Meanwhile, Aleph was about to use his saber to free Chika of the webbing when he noticed the eyeball spiderbots jump and swarm towards the group, the one on the ceiling diverting towards Aleph. Aleph quickly casted Agi on the ceiling eyeball robot while Yuka charged at the eyeball bot that was going for Akio, aiming to slash it across its eye.

Akio's alert eyes caught sight of the strange fedora-wearing man the moment it leaped out of hiding and fired its gun at Yuka - the sound of the firearm's bang rung in his ears, and he groaned as it reached his physically-sensible eardrums. He prepared himself to cast a spell at what was obviously another Shadow before it reached Maki, but his heightened reflexes registered that one of these eyeball Shadows was about to attack him, and he turned towards this more direct threat to his own safety.

A flash of light coming from Maki's direction distracted him, however, as did Yuka's charge at the Shadow.

He saw the silver line coming soon enough to save his eyes, but not to dodge it entirely. A burning sensation flashed across his brow, and he reflexively brough a hand to his forehead - he felt something warm and liquid there, something that almost immediately colored his sight red as well. The Strider had cut a deep, straight gash across his forehead - the sharp appendage had cut through the bone like a hot knife through frozen butter.

The boy's next reaction was to leap back, hopefully away from the rest of the Shadows - he tried to wipe the blood off from his eyes, but it leaked too fast for him to get a good look at the situation at hand. And there was this jackhammer pounding against his forehead, sending blood flowing at every second...
