There was something unusual about this time going to the ruins. It was probably the fact that she wasn't driving alone. Normally she spent that time in quite introspection to help prepare herself for the task at hand. Not that it wasn't still an option, but it just felt very different with other presences there.

They'd left the city behind, and she drove the car down the wooded unpaved trail leading to the main entrance to the ruins (previously the only known entrance.) It came to a gentle stop in the small niche between trees a bit to the side she'd always used.

"We're here." She got out of the driver's side confirmed she had her keys, locked the door and closed it. Then she went to the trunk. She was dressed as she usually was when she went to the ruins, sweatshirt and old jeans, lace up sturdy boots. Her red hair in a tight bun, not a second thought as to looking her best rather than dressing practical.

The trunk was where she asked everyone to keep their weapons. It was where she kept her own sturdy stab vest that she strapped on, followed by a belt of shotgun shells. As well as a fully loaded pump-action shotgun with a pistol grip, Her weapon of choice for exploring the ruins.

"I think it would be best if we took a moment moment and all shared what we can do as to work together more effectively?"
She held the gun down and away from anyone as she stepped back to allow people to get to their things. "Myself? I can use Agi, Garu, Sukukaja, and most recently? Marin Karin."

Chika, who had taken the front passenger seat, opened the door and stepped out without a word. She had kept her sword in front of her, held upright in its sheath at an angle so that only the flat of the blade would run against the sheath's interior during the car ride. She didn't have her gun this time--the thing had been damaged during her last ruins trip, by one of her own spells no less, not that she would have taken it along with a police officer on board anyway.

The girl felt strange today, though. She was stressed, she knew that much, and coming to the ruins was usually a mandatory occurrence in that circumstance, but she didn't feel as... adamant, this time.

Just empty. Directionless.

Tisiphone wasn't speaking, either...

When Maki prompted everyone to divulge what their abilities were, Chika turned to the others, frowning. She paused for a moment, before answering in a quiet voice: "Weak against physical damage, fire, light, and nuclear magic... I can resist ice and cold, though, and... I heal with Dark magic, like Mudo... I have Fear and Poison magic, some lightnin', a Dark spell that covers a wide area, and a spell that makes enemies easier t' 'catch' with spells like those poison and fear ones. So, that's what I've got. Now ya know..."

To say that whole ride to the ruins was seriously awkward would probably be an understatement, especially for the Serizawas.

Aleph had to sit in the back seat with Yuka and possibly everyone else since Chika was riding shotgun with Maki, and she didn't seem willing to give up her seat. When they got there, Aleph and Yuka exited the car and went to retrieve their swords. When Maki told everyone to tell her what they can do, they were somewhat willing to explain.

"Resist fire, weak to ice, basically." Aleph explained. "I have Agi, Maragi, Rakukaja, Dia, and I learned Media recently."

"Weak to ice too, and resist earth." Yuka said. "I got Magna, Dia, and Tarukaja."

Akio stepped out of the car, giving his surroundings a quick look-over before his eyes fell back on his would-be companions of the day. "Thanks for the ride, Yamada-san." he thanked, bowing lightly towards the policewoman and going to retrieve his bokken. He'd have to get a real weapon sometimes in the near future - one that wouldn't be perilous to use with his weakness to physical -, but it would have to do right now. Besodes, a little helping of Garu would turn it into as decent a weapon as any.

"I have Garu, Sukukaja, and Marin Karin. I resist wind and light, and am weak against fire and physical attacks. I am basically a less useful version of you, Yamada-san... eh eh." the teenager replied, giving a light chuckle. He kept a smile on his face as he made that rather brutal comment about himself - as he almost always did.

"It's no problem, Sakubura-san."

She tried to file away the most useful bits of information. Chika had quite a few weaknesses, several worryingly common for use from Shadows, the Serizawa siblings had access to healing, and to Akio? For once, Maki smiled. Alon with a rare smile just prior to a more serious situation, she offered him words of encouragement.

"I wouldn't look at it that way. What you can do is only part of it, knowing how to use your abilities to their fullest extent. In that respect, I'm sure you could probably teach me things I never even realized."

She slammed the trunk closed. "I think we would do well to stick to the first floor for now." She'd been to the second floor only once, and that had been…an experience. "Anyways, we should be careful to help cover for each others shortcomings. Serizawa, the both of you, we're going to have to rely on you for healing. Do not forget that danger can come from any and all directions in the ruins."

She moved towards the entrance, but paused. "If you have to make any last minute preparations, now is the time. I'm going to get a look just past the entrance. Stick with me once inside, please." She knew what to expect, the entrance was often clear, if not, perhaps some weak stragglers that were often quickly dealt with. After everyone was inside, she thought it best to take her usual route in the ruins, it worked well for her, and the familiarity helped in case they would have to make a hasty retreat.

Chika fixed her sword onto her belt as Maki spoke, taking note of the others' abilities. Earth, strength enhancement... fire, wind, agility boosting spells, and healing spells from at least two people apiece. And--

"Oh," she said. "My sword's also got Sukukaja in it. Not as strong as the actual spell, but as long's I have it, I can give myself a boost. So there's that."

With Kizuna in place, Chika stepped up next to Maki. It was no real question that she would be kept toward the back of middle of whatever the group did, so she just waited. There wasn't really anything to add, and even discounting her scrambled thoughts, Chika was a little uncomfortable around so many people she either barely new or didn't know at all. Maki was the only one she had any sort of trust in, really--Aleph was just someone she distantly knew, was acquainted with but knew more by reputation than personal interaction. Akio was a complete stranger, perhaps she'd seen him at school or something but if she had, she didn't remember, and the same could be said of the tall girl, Yuka, whom Chika knew only as "Aleph's sister."

They seemed nice, but Chika was wary of Aleph. He had fire magic, and Kyo had told her he wasn't so good at teamwork. She just hoped he would watch his aim; she'd already been set on fire the last time she was in the ruins, and it wasn't an experience she wanted to repeat.

Aleph and Yuka both nodded as Maki gave out the general strategy for the entire group. Seems like they would both be mostly on healing duty for the time being. And the fact that Shadows could come from any direction would mean that they would have to be more vigilant.

Before following Maki to the entrance, Aleph smiled and gave a little wave to Chika. If Hanako had wanted him to leave the last opportunity to go with her to people that she was more 'comfortable' with, then this was his chance to gain her trust by showing her that he was completely harmless....despite the things he did, of course. Yuka also waved at Chika too. Might as well try to be nice to her as well.

The Serizawas quickly began to follow Maki to the entrance, keeping their blades close by.

"You have a point. I might have gotten a bit rusty due to my roleplayer forgetting about me my lack of training as of late, but I think it'll all come back quickly enough." Akio replied, keeping a good-humored smile on his face. he stepped behind Maki - his weakness towards physical attacks made taking the front unwise, so he'd mostly try to pelt enemies at a distance with his wind spells and provide boosts for his allies.

Oh, and try to seduce enemies with Icarus' handsome everything, too. That could help. That could always help.

Before they entered the Ruins proper, he observed the surrounding woods. As always, they were strangely serene - a weird contrast with what was awaiting inside. When the group reached the entrance, she took his wooden saber in hand and held it close. "Everyone, stay sharp." he said - better psyche themselves up when they could.

A brief but thorough scan of any possible danger or other details worthy of attention. Same for the entrance as it was for the immediately adjacent rooms.

"All clear then. Please follow me." She headed down the path that would lead them though her preferred patrol route, and summoned her mask and donned it. That way, she was ready to fire her weapon or cast a spell at a moment's notice if needed. She did have a few requests. "Yuka-san? Stick with Nakadachi-san near the center, Akira-san? I'd like you and Sakubura-san to watch the rear as we advance. when we encounter Shadows, take position as you individually see fit."

They were worded as requests, rather than orders. She of course intended to take point. It only made sense, with no special elemental strengths or weaknesses it made it less likely she'd be taken out of a fight with a single spell from a Shadow of comparable strength to herself. Plus, she had a weapon she wanted to mitigate the chance of hitting one of them with friendly fire and body armor to further bolster her protection.

As they progressed, several suspicious sounds could be heard. rustling of paper and something like skittering feet and quick, sudden clacking sounds could be easily heard. It sounded like they were coming from the far right of an intersection the group was approaching.

Maki held up her free hand, a gesture indicating she wanted them to stop and wait. she crept out ahead to peek around the corner. At once she pulled back as a fireball from an Agi spell sailed harmlessly by. Soon after a large group of floating, toothed books flew into view, conglomerated in three distinct swarms.

"Be careful! There's also a type of beetle I've never seen before with them!" That was probably the source of the quickly approaching skittering sounds.

Chika fell into her designated position without comment, glancing once at Yuka and giving the girl a brief nod--a silent "hello," maybe, or an acknowledgement that she was counting on her. When the group moved, Chika moved with it, her left hand resting on the sheath of Kizuna, holding the sword steady there.

The sound of fluttering pages and clacking insect-feet alerted Chika to the presence of Shadows in their path, and she stopped a moment before Maki actually signaled them to, looking back at the others to make sure they would, too. When Maki peeked around... there was a flash of fire, causing Chika to twitch, her hand moving toward her sword. The sudden spike in her heart rate, in spite of the fire spell's distance, in spite of all these other people between her and it...

...Well, it was then that Chika acknowledged that she was officially rather afraid of fire now.

The things that swooped into the corridor drove fire from her mind completely, and she gasped, almost letting go of her sword. Books. Books, dripping blood. Books with teeth in them. Books that were going to descend upon her and both rip her to pieces and shred her skin with razor-sharp paper edges while they did it.

"Fire," she muttered incoherently. "Fire, fire, fire! Aleph-san, blast them all with fire!"

It didn't occur to her that the fire spell might have come from one of the books, her mind jumped to the simple logic of books burn. And they had an area-sweeping fire-magic caster with them. Most importantly: she did not want those things anywhere near her.

Chika raised a hand, and a pulsating cloud of darkness manifested--it crackled briefly with blackish-purple sparks and then she stepped around Maki, lobbing it at the Shadows as they flew toward the group. When its and their paths collided, the Mamudo spell would explode, bathing a wide area--most of the width of the hallway--with dark magic.
