"Napoleon? Where are you, Napoleon?" Kinzaki was searching for her piglet around the building, but somehow, the piglet had disappeared. She knew that it always happened, but she couldn't help but to be worried whenever the piglet suddenly disappeared. After searching for a while, the heiress sighed before she wiped the beads of sweat off her forehead with the sleeve of her kimono. "What's wrong, Ojou-sama?" Subaru asked as she approached the heiress. She seemed a little concerned. "Napoleon's gone," Kinzaki said. "And I'm a little worried." Subaru sighed. Her mistress sure loved her pet and it's no wonder if she was worried about the piglet's disappearance. "I will help you to search for him after this. But now, it's lunchtime. Your aunt is waiting for you at the dining room..." When Subaru mentioned about her aunt, Kinzaki flinched. She knew that her aunt, Reina Kirihara wasn't a pleasant person to be around, but it had been arranged that they would have a lunch together. The search for Napoleon had to wait for some other time. So, Kinzaki nodded before Subaru escorted her to the dining room, where several maids and Reina herself were waiting for her. "..." the woman, Reina gave Kinzaki a disdainful look as she sat on her seat. "You're late," she said. "Well, just take your seat," she said in dismissive tone. "...Yes," Kinzaki nodded before she took her seat. Subaru was standing beside the heiress. A maid then served the food to Kinzaki. Apparently, it was stew. Blinking for a while, Kinzaki looked at Reina. "How are you, Oba-sama?" she asked. "Tch," Reina clicked her tongue as Kinzaki gave her that question. "Same old, I suppose. I am one of the researchers and I have to work hard, unlike certain someone who has more time to spare and more time to fool around," she said. It was clear that her animosity was directed towards the heiress. "To think that certain someone is going to take over the company, I don't think this company will have much hope in the future," she said before she started eating. "..." Kinzaki just remained silent before she started eating as well. The stew was delicious. Subaru stood dutifully beside Kinzaki, and when she looked at Reina, she noticed a small smirk found a way to her lips. Somehow, she had a bad feeling about this. She already knew that Reina had no love towards her niece, Kinzaki, and she would always make it clear no matter what. "So... how's your study?" suddenly, Reina asked something that Kinzaki didn't expect. She never asked her that question before. "Huh? Oh, I'm doing good. My friends are really supportive and I'm glad for that," Kinzaki said as she set down her spoon. "Is that so? I see..." Reina mused. "Well, it's good to be young..." "...?" Kinzaki gave Reina a bemused look. Somehow, the tone of her voice didn't sound malicious. Perhaps she had already softened, even a bit. "No... this is too suspicious. There's no way Reina-sama can be this soft so suddenly. There has to be something..." Subaru thought to herself as she watched both Reina and Kinzaki having their meals. "I know Reina-sama quite well. She is a woman with a black heart. I saw it many times before. Why would she change now? Unless..." she looked at the meal Kinzaki was having. "Something wrong, Subaru-kun?" Kinzaki asked her butler who was looking at her stew. "Are you hungry?" "It's nothing," Subaru shook her head. "Yes, this is definitely suspicious..." she looked at Reina, and for a brief moment, Reina flashed a malicious smirk, as if noticing that Subaru had noticed the wrongness of this situation. "If there's something that I have to praise about you, is that you have a very sharp-minded butler," Reina suddenly said, much to Kinzaki's confusion. She stood up, leaving her meal unfinished. Then, she slowly walked towards Kinzaki and stood behind her. "Don't think otherwise, my dear niece. I really hate you. I really hate everything about you," she said with a smile as she whispered behind her. "..." Kinzaki was silent as Reina whispered to her. "And..." she stepped back. "...make sure to finish the stew. If you don't, then your pet will be disappointed," she said before she exited, followed by several maids. "Pet?" Kinzaki was stunned for a couple of seconds before she realized what her aunt was talking about. She immediately looked into the stew and saw something that almost caused her to puke out her meal. In the plate of stew, she saw a familiar blue ribbon that was tied on Napoleon's tail. "...uh?" the realization hit her hard and she had to place her hand on her mouth in order to stop herself from vomiting. She could only stare into the plate in horror. "Ojou-sama?!" Subaru tried to calm the heiress down but it was already too late. Her kimono was dirtied by what used to be Kinzaki's pet. Subaru called for the maids for assistance before she decided to confront Reina herself. And as expected, Reina had already left. "Dammit!" How petty, Subaru thought to herself. She knew that after this, they wouldn't have to search for Napoleon anymore, because they had already found him. It would take a while before Kinzaki could recover from her shock. And Subaru had no choice but to remain by her side for the time being. |
