A voice came from around the behind the car, causing him to reflexively close his door. Shit, someone was asking him to leave? And he was still covered in blood. Fuck. He had to beat it. He floored the pedal and sped out of the construction yard. Thank god with the rain and the night time, she couldn't see his plates. But the body... Shit.

"The instructions said what they said. Hopefully nothing will happen."

I'm the best! I'm the king of me! I'm gonna eat chips out of the garbage!

Nana only got a glimpse of a pig-like mask sitting on the man's passenger seat before he slammed the door and sped off. She ran a hand through her hair exasperatedly and stared at the spot the man had been. "What the fuck...?" Why had he been sitting out in the middle of the construction site while it was raining? Something was up. She scanned the landscape, looking for something that seemed out of place. Her gaze settled on a barrel with a strangely dented lid.

Every nerve in her body was screaming at her to stop walking toward this thing. Whatever it was, it was bad news. She definitely didn't need to go investigating this in the middle of the night. Just go home, call Kato up, and have him look at it. It wasn't her problem.

She lowered her umbrella and outstretched it toward the barrel, gently prodding the lid with the metal tip of the umbrella. The lid slipped off and clattered to the ground with a splash, and Nana began walking forward, squinting through the dark and the rain as she walked. Something was sticking out of the barrel. It was limp and pale and vaguely familiar.

And suddenly Nana wasn't taking steps toward it. She was taking steps back toward the road and reaching for her phone.

There was a dead body in that barrel. Someone had left it on this plot of land to send a message. And she recognized that scar cutting across the space between the index finger and thumb the hand had.

She began to shiver, and she found herself moving until she reached a trailer on the edge of the plot. She took a seat on the steps leading to the door, just underneath the lip of the trailer's roof so the rain wouldn't completely soak her. Her shaking fingers managed to dial the numbers on the phone, and she lifted it up to her face, the dial tones from the speakers melding with the drone of the pouring rain.
