Naoya rose up out of the darkness, his arms hanging limply, with only his burnt pants and a band of metal around his midsection and waist remaining of the gear he had taken down into the ruins. There was a massive hole in his right shoulder, mirroring the wound that he had gotten from Toru spearing him in the shoulder those months ago. The scar in his head had broken open, and blood was streaming weakly down his face. It being a head wound, the lack of blood coming from it was worrisome. The wounds in his back, where the Reaper had used wind attacks to flay him down to the bone with broken glass, might have something to do with that: he could feel the splinters grinding against his bones as his stumbled up the stairs. His legs were burning with exertion and the phantom agony of broken bones. Not to mention that his left calf was utterly skinless at this point, with only a narrow band of pale flesh stretching from his knee to his ankle along the blade of his shin. He could feel the molten plastic lump that had been his phone cooling against his leg. Everything was cold, now. If he could, he would put himself back together. If he had the strength, he would heal himself. The manic run through the ruins had drained him of everything he had, though, and he could feel a bone-deep fatigue settling into his body. To make matters worse, the world was dissolving into a migraine-colored blur around him as he came up into the sunlight. He could just barely see a silhouette at the top of the stairs, could vaguely hear a muffled voice. Was he deaf, now? Could he not hear a single thing? It didn't matter. None of it mattered. He had survived thus far, and might die with the sunlight on his face again. That was all that he supposed -- weakly as he could -- that he could ask for. He forced himself up over the last step and plowed right into the person who had been standing there, his strength failing him as he pitched forward. |

"Shit, man. Been ages since I've-" Charles was muttering to himself absentmindedly, adjusting his jacket and checking himself for weapons. Daichi had come with him today, so he had given whatever weapon Daichi wanted to him, leaving Charles with nothing but his knife and fists. The figure slumped right onto him as they climbed, leaving Charles snapped out of his daze and his attention focused on his best friend currently resembling deli meat in front of him. "Jesus! What happened!" |

Daichi had been more looking at Charles than at the way they were going. He'd brought his kampilan, though Charles insisted that he keep a switchblade on him. He'd pocketed the switchblade, in case anything were to cause him to lose his kampilan. "Thanks for coming with-" Suddenly something rammed into Daichi, knocking him down. His kampilan flew out of his hand skittering to a stop a ways down the mountain. He scrambled back onto his feet, reaching into his pocket for the switchblade...when he saw the condition Naoya was in. "Charles-san! Do you have a phone on you?!" He quickly approached Naoya, and summoned his mask. "Imoto-san? Can you hear me!?" He cast a Dia, and then another and then another. "Imoto-san, stay with us!" He directed his attention back over to Charles. "Either put something on bedlam for a healer or give me the phone so I can call the Inspector!" He turned back to Naoya, and kneeled next to the boy. Directing his attention on the blood trailing down his face. He redirected his spells at that point specifically. After a couple more Dias, he turned his attention the the giant hole in the boys shoulder, and continued to cast healing spells. |

The healing was only marginally effective: it functioned more like life support than actually restoring Naoya to functionality. He could feel the huge gash in his head -- disfiguring at the best of times, but producing a torrential river in his current state -- begin to close up, covering the metal plate that held his skull together. The hole in his shoulder was another matter: while Daichi began to cause new flesh to cover it, the workings of the joint were too wrecked to be put back together by first-tier healing magic. The shoulder joint itself was quite simply gone, and his arm was held in place as much by a tattered bit of sleeve as by the few scant strips of skin and chewed meat that tethered it to his torso. The bits of bone that remained looked more like busted teeth than a shoulder blade or clavicle. Naoaya shivered and drew shallow breaths. The melted remnants of his chainmail shirt were constricting his chest and making it difficult to get enough air. He had managed to land on his front, leaving the shredded flesh of his back and the embedded glass shards there exposed. One of the side effects of the healing magic was to conjure new blood, which began pumping afresh from the tears in his body. Steam began to rise from the wounds and the ground was soon slick and muddy. "R...reaper. Caught up t' me 'n' Serizawa...'n' Suzuh...hara. Drew 't 'way..." When he spoke, his voice was small, and there was a whistling sound. Some of his teeth seemed to be missing, probably spread all across the multi-kilometer run from the other entrance to where he now lay. "I...I can't...my arm. Is it bad? Can't...can't feel it." |

"Your arm is still in the shape of a limb. Just stay awake as best you can." said the boy, taking out his phone. He proceeded to punch out a post. He did his best to keep his nerves calm, but the punching of his keys was frantic and he was constantly erasing his typos. His heart started to beat fast and the morsels of food he had today were now starting to coming up a bit. "Daichi, just heal him in bursts. Don't constantly heal him or you're gonna run out of energy real fast." |

There was steam rising from Naoya. There was steam rising from someone he had just tried to heal. Why the fuck was there steam?! To add onto that, Naoya was visibly shivering. So, Daichi started gathering rocks. Any large looking rocks he could see, then he placed them in a circle a distance from Naoya. Close enough so that the fire he was going to start would be felt, but not close enough to risk burning him. He dug a small pit as fast as he could, hoping that his idea would work. He started picking up twigs, grass and leaves. Anything he could look for that would catch and keep fire. He set it all in the small pit and then lit fire to it with an Agi. "Okay Imoto-san, this should keep you warm until someone can get here." If not, Daichi would throw his jacket into the fire along with his shirt. He didn't want to cast Dia on Naoya anymore, that could hinder more than help. |

One of the unfortunate facts of Naoya's experience was that he hardly ever felt genuinely warm. Everything was either cold or not-cold. So in a sense he was grateful for the fire, though obviously it didn't do much. It was a small mercy, and Naoya wasn't the sort to complain, even though he still bleeding rather profusely. He looked over at Charlie, his eyes unfocused. "Chuck...hey...something I, I need t' ask you." With supreme effort, he stuck his left hand out, twitching his fingers to beckon the foreign boy closer. "L...letters. F...folder in, uh, in m' room. C...could...Deliver 'em?" He didn't tell anyone about those -- but he had prepared them in case something like this happened. Explaining things that he had trouble putting in to words and offering encouragement for people he thought he had figured out. Given how fragile his situation often seemed, he had figured that it was the only right thing to do. There was much to be said for giving others some sense of closure. He hadn't anticipated them being necessary, though, and a few were a bit out-of-date. The wound in his shoulder still leaked blood, but the gush had become a slow trickle. He didn't know if it was because he had begun to heal or because he was running out of blood again. Edited by Czernobog, Sep 25 2013, 12:12 PM.

Charles stepped as close as he could to the fire without getting affected and strained to hear Naoya. "Oh, yeah, of course man. Just tell me where it is and I'll deliver the letters." Charles didn't have much to say. The friend in critical condition in front of him stopped any wit from coming out of his mouth. |

What could Daichi possibly do? He didn't want to try healing Naoya again, but if he didn't the boy could bleed out and...well there was no fucking way that was happening. So, even though he felt horrible about it he cast another Dia on the boy, near his mouth and throat. Daichi hoped that could allow him to speak more clearly. "Imoto-san, please tell me if I should continue to heal you or not." Daichi realized how idiotic asking the boy to tell him was, it seemed like he could barely form a sentence at all. He felt distraught. There was no fucking way that someone else was going to die in front of him, not now and not ever. |

"Desk. Bottom drawer," he managed. "Trustin'...you." He gestured with his right hand toward Daichi, a sort of "keep going" motion. If Daichi could keep him alive until he had enough strength for a diarama, then he might just make it. Hopefully another healer would show up soon. Hopefully. "Focus more," he said to Daichi. "Don't...don't just slap 't on. Close th' wounds bleedin' th' most." |
