Charles would have been much better off if he'd used wind magic. As it happened, adding a physical skill to the pen jab just gave the Pesce a bit more of a push to resist. It was, as with Shane and his sword-swing, diverted... but it barreled onward anyway, now aimed for Charles's shoulder instead of his torso.

Shane had already cast his own Quicksilver spell--Masukukaja had no effect on him, but it would at least give Miyo a boost where Shane couldn't. When Miyo fired a Zio spell at the Shadow that had struck her, she would find that it wasn't exactly weak against electric damage... no more so than any other living creature, at any rate. It didn't look like a creature that even had muscles that could spasm in the first place, yet spasm it did, just for a moment, and that was the opportunity Shane needed.

His wrist flicked at the Pesce, and a blue sword of energy shot out, shattering like glass on impact with the creature. The vibrating blade of force crashed into the monster and ripped through a large swath of its paper body. The monster went limp, and fluttered to the ground... then, the scroll began to dissolve into a black stain on the ground.

Shane turned swiftly back toward Charles, holding his sword on the defensive in case the second Shadow turned its attention toward him or Miyo.

"Yo. You okay?" he called over his shoulder. "Not bleeding or anything, right?"

Polar bears...? How did he even find them...? Miyo was certainly perplexed by Charles' outlandish claims, and doubting them severely. As he pulled out the pen though, she thought she felt something, as though her reflexes had gotten sharper. Perhaps this was a similar spell to what Shane put on himself to make his attacks faster?

"Charles-san, did you cast a spell on me or something?" she asked. It seemed logical; Shane's spell had an odd effect to him, and she didn't have that effect happen to her.

Told you so~

...Well, at least I learned something.

Seeing the Pesce only spasm made Miyo a bit disappointed. As Shane struck and effectively destroyed it though, she whistled softly. "That spell is amazing..." She wondered if it could be taught to her; she didn't want to pester Shane though, so she didn't ask. As she watched the Pesce disappear she wondered how paper could be made from a shadow-like substance. She added that to her mental list of questions.

Miyo heard Shane call her, gave herself a quick check to see if she was injured and shook her head; promptly realising he couldn't see her do so, she spoke up. "No, I'm fine. It just stings a bit, shouldn't last too long."

Charles flew forward into the Pesce, tumbling as the sword flew into his shoulder. It took him off-guard, but at the worst, it would probably just leave a smallish hole in his jacket and a big bruise with a tiny bit of bleeding. The wonder of leather jackets!

"I cast a spell on everyone, kid! That's my talent!"
said Charles, with a grin under his mask.

The scroll hardly moved from the pen. Damn. Might as well try something more flashy. He pulled his arm back to ready a punch, but it was a bit numb from the sword impact, so punching the thing was out of the question. So Charles took a more elegant option instead.

"Say goodnight, Gracie!"

He sprinted at the Shadow with a Garula boost, hopping with the momentum, aiming to smash the Shadow with a flying knee.

Shane couldn't help but feel a bit dazzled by Charles's continued insistence at attacking the Calm Pesce with physical means, but maybe he was just so used to thinking of himself as invincible to the stuff that he saw it more easily in enemies as well. The flying knee caught the scroll-fish-thing in the side, and buffeted it to the side, but whatever force held the monster in fish-shape seemed to resist the blow. The Pesce was knocked aside, and one side of its "body" crinkled inward with the force. But it immediately whipped around, aiming to slap Charles over the head with its tail.

"Oh, for the love of God, just nuke it with a wind spell already," Shane sighed, making no move to help the other boy... he could handle himself well enough to charge Shane down with a car door because why the hell not, he could kill a stupid fish scroll monster on his own. The blue-haired boy looked back at Miyo. "Yeah, uh, some spells make us faster or stronger or whatnot, he cast one of those on you. Only lasts for a bit, so make sure you pay attention--you want to make sure you know when it's not there anymore, right?"

Shane shrugged then, and said, "Well, my magic probably wouldn't kill these things in one hit. Yours softened it up. Might not have shown that well, but eh, how the hell often have you ever seen a sheet of paper electrocuted, am I right?"

Miyo was surprised at how well Charles took the hit, but it didn't seem like his own attacks were doing much. Hearing Shane sigh, she assumed her predictions were correct. A wind spell... Miyo briefly imagined the paper fish crinkle and rip under strong winds. Made some amount of sense. More sense than electrocuting it anyway...

She nodded at Shane explaining the spell Charles cast, and smiled as he mentioned seeing paper being electrocuted. "Fair point. Good to know I'm being somewhat helpful at least."

Suddenly she had an idea. This spell Charles cast made her faster, right? Maybe, before the fish could attack Charles...

Miyo watched the Pesce as it approached Charles, and waited. Then, just as it was about to try and attack him, she aimed a Zio spell at it. She was cutting it close with the timing though; hopefully nothing got in the way...

Charles responded to Shane's instructions by snapping his fingers and pointing them like guns, throwing out two Garulas.

"Pow pow!"

The lightning bolt flew past Charles, whizzing by his ear.
