Magical psyche-spirits are a thing?; Miyo's awakening [Open]

Miyo woke up quickly. She could tell this wasn’t her room, or anywhere familiar for that matter. Yet here she was, curled up in a ball on a cold, metallic floor as if she decided to take a nap.

She sat up and looked around, but soon realised this was useless; there was very little light at all. This made her extremely worried. She’d only just moved here, and now she was in a dark place with no idea where she was or any idea of who might be in here! Where the heck was she?

She thought about what happened before… She was in the apartment her and her father lived in, playing her newest videogame… Then she remembered something golden, then getting up and blacking out.

Well shoot. She spent all week trying to get the red macguffins for 100%.

“H… Hello?” Miyo called out. Her voice was quiet though, barely giving out an echo. She realised this and tried to speak louder.

"H-hello? Is there anyone here? I can't see..."

Miyo prayed that someone, anyone, would find her; she prayed that, though near impossible, it could be someone she knew, or at least someone who was friendly.

It was only his second patrol, so naturally the finding he'd made during his first still weighed on Shane's mind in an annoying way. There wasn't really much to do about that besides kill every stinking Shadow that crossed his path. Helped let off steam, right? So that was exactly what Shane did.

The enemy in front of him this time was something interesting, though... some kind of writhing snake-thing with gender signs hanging from it. Well, if that didn't scream "Charm magic!" he really didn't know what did, so the boy sprinted into the room with his sword arcing hard through the air at the creature's midsection, summoning Yamato without a second's thought. The vanilla bastard sword he was currently using in place of his skull-sword arced through the air, his Persona's katana slashing out for a deadly Streak attack--

--and the snake was sliced into three neat pieces by the attack, before it even knew what the fuck. Shane grinned, stepped back, sheathed his sword, and reached up to remove the blue shades that served as his summoning mask. The blue-haired boy admired his handiwork--snake slices melting into black goop on the ground in front of him, before turning back to the office door and stepping back into the corridor. As satisfying as victory was, even against smallfry like that, he was here for a very specific purpose and that purpose was--

"H-hello? Is there anyone here? I can't see..."

...Exactly this. New victims of ol' Fluttering Phil. Shane sighed, and turned in the direction the voice had come from. Sounded a bit far, and Lord only knew exactly which direction the voice had come from. Shane took off at a jog, looking left and right, his dark-green trenchcoat flapping behind him as he went.

"Hey! Whoever you are! Stay where you are, and keep talking so I can find my way to you!" he said. "Just keep calm and I'll get you out, no worries, okay?"

Miyo had never been happier to hear someone. Keep talking? Well the only way she'd keep talking is if she voiced her thoughts, so...

"Oh thank goodness you're here Mister... Whoever you are! I have no idea where I am, but from the sound of your voice it sounds like you're quite far away so at least that reduces the probability that I've been kidnapped. I'm not sure what happened before I woke up here, but I remember something golden flying nearby while I was playing videogames and then I blacked out. I hope I didn't turn the console off: I had almost got 100% on getting all the collectibles. I mean, there's not really any rewards for it besides concept art and music, but it's still something, right?

... Right, you can't reply right now. Anyways, I hope you're getting closer to finding me, this is the most I've talked this week and I'm running out of things to say. Um... Well, I suppose I could tell you my name, couldn't I? My name's Miyo, Miyo Tsuchiya. Please tell me you're almost here! I hope you're real too, and not just a figment of my imagination. I'm a little odd, yeah, but I don't want to go completely bonkers!"

Oh, you're going to be hearing voices for a long time, my dear!

Miyo paused. "Did... Did you just call me my dear? Because I just heard someone call me that... Then again the voice sounded like a girl's, so I don't think it was you... Are you here yet?"

Crud, she was hearing it already... the name was familiar, though. Shane couldn't place it, but he was a bit busy trying to find his way to this Miyo girl before a Shadow picked up on her voice to care whether or not he knew her. Unfortunately...

...Miyo would find that she was incredibly unlucky this day.

The shouting attracted something, something that had been standing--inert and idle--in a room not three doors down from where Miyo had awoken. Its approach was not a silent one; the tap-tap-tap of porcelain feet on linoleum was easy enough to hear, but then it starting cooing: "Mama. Mama...!"

It stepped into the doorway of the room in which Miyo had awoken, blocking all access or exit. Its eyes, or rather the tiny black voids where eyes should have been, stared into the room for three full seconds. And then the Lost Innocence stalked closer, spreading its arms, cooing, cooing, creeping closer, seeking a hug--

"Don't worry about the voice!" Shane snapped. "That's normal! Just be careful, there are dangerous things in here--"

His voice was nearer now, but not near enough to do anything about the Shadow that had found its way to Miyo...

Miyo heard the tap-tap-tapping on the floor and, mistaking it for the boy's footsteps, breathed a sigh of relief. She got up and started walking towards the lightest part of the room, which she deducted was a doorway and was where the tapping was coming from. "Thank goodness you're here! I wasn't sure if you-"

"Mama. Mama...!"

She froze in her tracks as she heard the somewhat demonic cooing. But morbid curiosity got the better of her, and she poked her head round the doorway to find the source of the voice.

She saw it, and cried out fearfully. A giant porcelain figure with gaping holes for eyes. It was like something out of a cliche horror movie, but this was real, nott behind a screen. As the giant doll moved towards the doorway Miyo ran to the other side of the dark room, trying to keep herself hidden in the shadows while she collected her thoughts.

W-what the heck is that thing?!

It's a Shadow, dear. It's very dangerous. Good thinking though, screaming like that. I bet that boy's going to get here even quicker!

Miyo jumped. "You! Are you a voice in my head? I must be going crazy, hearing voices and seeing giant dolls, this can't be normal..."

As if by cue she heard the boy shout something, something about the voice being normal and the possibility of dangerous things here. Well, he was right, there was a strong possibility that this doll, who had now arrived at the doorway, was very dangerous. Especially as it had its arms out, like it was looking for someone to hug. If that was the case, Miyo was sure the doll would crush her.

"I'm trapped," Miyo whispered. "Oh no, what am I going to do? Am I going to get attacked? What if it's super-powerful? Oh god, I might die here!"

My dear, I need you to calm down. You're not going to do any good panicking, are you?

The apparently-normal voice had a point. Miyo tried to steady her breathing before speaking aloud to the voice, keeping an eye on the doll in the doorway.

"So, Miss Voice- I'm guessing you're a woman anyway- I'm supposed to hear you? Well, that's good, because I could use some help here, so if you have any ideas there in my subcon or something it'd be really helpful."

Well, the best thing to do right now is stay positive. So I need you to repeat after me. I won't die.

"... I won't die." Miyo repeated the voice's words, feeling a part of her fear leave her.

I'm going to survive.

"I'm going to survive." This voice was trying to keep her hopes up. Trying to stay positive. It felt like a part of her...

I will defeat the doll.

"I will defeat the doll." As more of Miyo's fear went away, she started to feel something in her right hand, a power of some sort...

I will remain positive!

"I will remain positive!"

Oooh, here comes the good bit! Look at your hand~!

Miyo did as the voice said and nearly jumped. An amber-coloured mask had appeared in her hand without her realising. She lifted it closer to try and study the details, but thought otherwise upon noticing the doll was getting ever closer, arms still outstretched.

Put the mask on! Now!

"R-right!"

Miyo wasn't going to argue with the voice. She put the mask on, which seemed to fit her perfectly. A surge of power suddenly enveloped her entire being, unlike anything she had ever felt before. A burst of light appeared from behind her, from which a golden long-haired figure of a woman emerged dressed in an equally golden tunic.

"K... Komodia...?" How did Miyo know this being's name? She hadn't seen it- no, her- before, yet she felt like she knew her nonetheless.

Right! I'm Komodia, your Persona! I'll explain later, but right now I need you to listen dear, OK? You don't have a weapon, so you're going to have to use Zio, an electricity spell. All you need to do is focus, aim at the doll, and I'll take it from there. Go on, I know you can do it!

"R... Right."

Electricity magic? Really? Well at this point almost all sense and logic was thrown out the window, so Miyo decided not to question it. She faced the doll, who was getting closer with its arms still stretched in front of it, and concentrated on a point to attack... The body. The body seemed like a good place. Miyo pointed at the doll's abdomen, or at least where it would be. She was pretty sure the doll didn't have innards. Or, she hoped so.

Alright dear, get ready! This'll be amazing!

Komodia aimed a shocking bolt of lightning right where Miyo had directed her to attack. Miyo was amazed. Who knew this kind of thing existed outside of fiction?

Shane was already moving about as fast as he could when he heard the scream. Swearing under his breath, he tried to pump his legs harder. Meanwhile, back in the room... the Lost Innocence was blasted backward several paces by a bolt of lighting--it staggered, stumbled, almost overbalanced...

...and then it shrieked.

"MOTHER!"

The sheer volume and pitch of the scream would be enough to inflict pain, but the real danger of this yell was the effect it might have on the listener's mind. Shane, as he skidded to a halt at the corner of the corridor just outside this room, heard the Shadow's scream and felt a strange pressure on his body that he was pretty sure only did nothing because of his Persona's immunity. The sunglasses appeared on his face, and he rushed toward the open door he thought the sound might be coming from, bring his sword to bear, ready to bring it slashing down on any inhuman thing that might be lurking there...

Miyo was excited that she hit the doll and smiled at its reaction. Even though inexperienced at this magic thing, she had a feeling she was going to like it. But then-

"MOTHER!"

Miyo covered her ears and shut her eyes tightly, but the sheer force of the scream had practically tackled her onto the floor. She didn't feel her best; that scream actually caused physical damage to her besides making her fall over.

Miyo quickly got up and started panicking. "W-what do I do now?"

U-um, calm down dear, it's going to be fine! You just need to aim again.

"R... Right! Um... There!" Miyo pointed at what she thought what the doll's body again, but as Zio was fired she realised she instead aimed straight out the doorway and into the corridor.

"Um... Whoops."

Yeah... Whoops. I hope we didn't alert anything.

The sound of a paper cart speeding down the hallway came next. When Charles heard the sounds of fighting, he hopped onto the cart and went flying towards the screaming. That sure as hell wasn't any sort of human scream. Definitely meant something he had to do something about it. That sort of screaming outside of some sort of progressive rock album was most likely bad for a person's well-being.

The Zio bolt flying at his face almost caught him off-guard, barely giving him enough time to lean back off the cart and just slide on his back into the doorway. The bolt sailed over him and he used a Garula to direct himself towards the doll, aiming to trip it or kick it if he could. If not, he would be at a doll's feet, getting ready for a scream.

"I don't have a quip this time. Maybe strong and silent might be a cool approach."

Charles smiled behind his mask. Strong and silent Charles. Next it would be normal and sensible Nagashima.

The doll didn't even notice Charles coming. Shane did, though: he heard the cart, saw the careening gaijin, slowed down, and then flinched a bit when the lightning bolt barely missed Charles--not because he cared particularly about Charles, so much as... well, lightning. It was lightning.

...Electricity.

His one weakness!

One of his one weaknesses, anyway.

Shane approached the door at a more casual gait, especially when he heard the clatter of the doll landing in a heap on the floor. Shane stepped into view of the doorway and pushed the cart aside, looking in at the other boy's handiwork.

The doll wasn't exactly dead, though, and its next act was to attempt to Bash the Canadian boy over the head with one heavy artificial arm. Ragardless of whether that connected or not, it was immediately blasted back onto the ground by a sword made of blue energy--one of Shane's Summoned Swords, which not only cracked the doll's head a bit, but smacked that head backward into the linoleum floor.

Shane then looked to Miyo, took a moment to put a name to her face, and then grinned, holding up a hand in casual greeting. "Yo. Miyo from class, right? Miyo, this is Charles, Charles, this is Miyo... I'm Shane, you both know that, aaaaand--"

The doll twitched, moving to get up.

"...and the Shadow's not quite dead yet. Great, it's no fun if they just die in one swoop."

Miyo simply stared at the boy that carted in and watched as he brought the doll to the floor. Was this the guy that she talked to?

That boy's certainly... Brave.

"I think an idiotic badass is the term," Miyo muttered.

That was it!

Miyo smiled behind the mask before realising another boy had entered the room, smashing the doll back down with what looked like a sword made of some kind of blue energy.

Speaking of blue, Mister Blue-Hair-and-Shades looked familiar. It took a moment, but-

"Shane-san! W-why are you here? ... Well I guess the same could be said the same for me, but still!"

She turned to the other boy and bowed politely. "Nice to meet you Charles-san-"

She saw the doll start to get up and stepped away from it quickly, readying another Zio spell with her eyes on the head. "You two seem to know what you're doing, I'll hang back, okay?"

Don't you want to better your skills?

"Why? I don't want to come here. Once is good enough for me."
