I'm the best! I'm the king of me! I'm gonna eat chips out of the garbage!

In the time since the building had been firebombed, Nana had been in surgery twice, both times for skin grafts. She was exhausted and she had to take care to not strain the places she'd been burnt. On the bright side, her cell phone had gotten out of the attack unharmed so she wasn't without a communication method. That being said, typing with one hand was exhausting and almost entirely futile.

She was pretty sure word had gotten out that she was the one who was actually injured in the attack. If it hadn't been for her Persona she probably would have gotten out of there relatively unharmed. It'd just been her luck that her Persona had a fire weakness and the bastards (whoever they were) were using molotovs.

Her side still burned with pain, and worst yet, it itched. If she scratched it, it would only bleed and hurt more, though, so she tried to stay as still as she could.

Nana's phone beeped with a text message and she lifted her uninjured hand to view it.

Mom

Are you okay? I'm so sorry. I'm on the train to Nagashima now.

She lowered the phone and let it thump against the sheets, and she squeezed her eyes shut. "Dammit..."

"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"
And then there was a quiet knock at the door, and it opened a crack.

"Hey, hey? Are you awake in there? Not sleepin', right? Shit, last thing I wanna do is---"

A head of green hair popped in, and then blinked. Blinked again. Then:

"Oh, good. That's a relief. I won't be suckin' your soul if I'm in here, then," Kyo chuckled uncomfortably. There was a slight quaver to her voice, as she opened the door a little further. There seemed to be a plastic bag slung over her shoulder, and she was dressed in her school uniform--she might have come directly from school to get here, then. The slight shadows under her eyes looked more pronounced, but if Nana cared to actually inspect her face, she might notice that Kyo was simply a bit paler than she normally was.

Nevertheless, she smiled cheerfully--a bit stilted by her standards, but she shrugged and said, "D'ya mind if I come in?" Her smile faded, then. "Y'know, you're the second friend o' mine this week who got attacked like this. Burned, I mean. I'm glad y'got out better off than Hanako, though, she's... still out. Still not awake yet." The quaver faded as she talked, more as if she were forcing it out than anything; she took one tentative step into full view. The bag seemed to contain paperback books, but not especially thick ones. She held the bag out. "If ya'd rather I beat it, I could just drop these off. Hospitals're boring as fuck, so yeah... figured y'could use some amusement."

Tsukasa quietly creaked open the door to Nana's hospital room, her scarf firmly placed over her mouth. It was evident in just her eyes that she was a little nervous about entering the room. She'd wanted to if Nana was ok of course, but at the same time, she was still kinda sorta mad at Nana and wasn't entirely sure she wanted to know if she was ok or not.

Not really the type to brood on the situation too long however, Tsukasa eventually took a deep breath and entered the room, quickly spotting that Kyo was there as well.

"Hi everyone." Tsukasa said, the last syllable of her word dragging on far too long.

Nana looked up at the door as it opened and smiled her usual smile. She lifted her uninjured arm toward Kyo as she walked in before lowering it again. "Nah, go ahead 'n' take a seat. I could use the company."

She yawned. "Really, I'm fine. Just chillin' here 'til I'm healed enough fer them t' let me go, 'n' then I'll probably go find a healer t' patch me up. Like, I'd go now, but I think it'd be a bit suspicious fer my skin grafts t' all the sudden just heal up outta nowhere, y'know? Sorry t' hear that 'bout Hanako, though."

She looked up as the door opened again, and blinked. Tsukasa? What was she doing here? The last time she'd seen her, she'd been covered in blood and holding up a man's severed head.

Ugh, no. Bad memories. Not a good time to go there.

"Heya, Director! Oh, wait, yer goin' by like... Mask Blue or somethin' now, right? Hows it goin'?" Nana asked. "Actually, how did all y'all find me anyways?"

Kyo grinned in response to Nana's own smile, walking right on up to the bed, pulling up a chair, and turning it around so that its back faced Nana. Of course, she just sat right on down with her head and left arm rested on the back of it, the other arm swinging the bag of books over her shoulder and onto the bedside table. They were, if Nana were to actually look, manga volumes: barely visible through the yellow convenience-store plastic bag were titles and volume numbers, revealing that they were Rurouni Kenshin volumes one through three (which was one volume short of ending the Kanryu Takeda arc, but Kyo hadn't actually remembered that until she was well on her way to school this morning). She glanced at Nana's unmoving arm and winced, but, she figured the volumes were small enough that reading them one-handed wouldn't be much of a chore.

"Yeah, I getcha," she said. "God, I just hope I never get brought t' the hospital. Dream Catcher'd cause all sortsa problems..."

The door opened. Quietly, but Kyo caught a faint reflection in the windowpane of someone coming in. She looked over her shoulder and blinked. Tsukasa? Looking awkward. Tsukasa, looking awkward. Tsukasa who'd witnessed Nana committing murder by decapitation, looking awkward.

Well, shit.

"Heya, Tsukasa," Kyo said. She looked to Nana and quirked an eyebrow. Director? Mask Blue? Eh? Well, whatever. Nana's question distracted her. She didn't particularly care that Tsukasa was in the room to hear this: "Well, shit, I saw the fire from a motherfuckin' mile off when I was on patrol, so I hustled on over t' see what the fuss was. Got outta my uniform and then asked one o' the firemen straight out if they'd seen someone who looked like me in the buildin' or anythin'."

The fireman in question had thought Kyo was asking after a sister, which had proven really convenient because it meant he was both super-sympathetic to Kyo's distress (she had basically wigged out upon receiving a "yes" answer, kind of embarrassing, really...) and super-forthcoming with his confirmation. It was a scary thought, though: that Nana and Kyo might actually be related, long-lost cousins or something. Ha! Hahaha... yeah... gooood thing she probably wasn't. Yes. Good thing.

I'm going to check my family's geneological records as soon as I can, she thought blandly. Just to confirm beyond a shadow of a doubt that we aren't related, and all is still right with the world.

"You were already well on your way here by the time I found out, though," she said. "I couldn't exactly, like, come here in the middle o' the night! That woulda been bad."

Kyo let out a short, humorless laugh, and shook her head, giving no explanation for that or the Dream Catcher comment. Tsukasa didn't strike Kyo as the type to necessarily jump on info things on Bedlam much, but Nana would have watched the interview most likely, if only to see if there was anything useful to know in it. She sat up a bit, and looked over her shoulder at Tsukasa, frowning thoughtfully.

"I didn't tell anyone else, though, so I'm not sure about her."

And she shrugged, turning to face Nana again. She sent out a silent prayer that she wasn't about to witness either a really awkward make-up scene or a really awkward I'll-never-forgive-you scene. Because either of those would be awkward. Really, really awkward. Doubly so if it was the latter, because then Kyo would be compelled to defend Nana simply out of an inability to keep her own damn mouth shut. And she always, always felt awkward when she did that.

"I saw that your building got burned down... I thought you might be here." Tsukasa responded, looking briefly at Kyo. "Everyone feels better when you come see them in the hospital. It's like a scientific fact."

She seemed rather down, before a sudden burst of energy. "It's mask yellow actually! Though um... honestly I guess I'm the only one on the team anymore."

The young girl laughed awkwardly and firmly trained her eyes on the floor.

"'zat so... Damn, with both o' y'all here, the news I'm in the hospital ain't gonna stay secret for long. Eh, I didn't plan on stayin' here too long anyways. Like I said, I'm just long enough fer them t' let me out and then sneak off t' a healer." She shrugged and looked over into the bag. "Rurouni Kenshin! Nice! Borrowed the complete anime series from the school library once, never brought them back. Got my account frozen as a result. I think ol' Barbarian-san's got orders t' kill on sight if he sees me now."

She pulled a volume from the bag. Next to her, the blankets shifted until she had just the tips of her fingers sticking out from under the blanket, which she used to hold the book open. The fingers were a nasty red and black color and one had a large, pus filled blister on it. Nana didn't seem to notice as she flipped to the next page.

"Mask Yellow, huh... So what's that make me, then? Agent Samurabrella, here to make my intergalactic crime mark on planet Earth?" Nana asked. "Sucks t' hear that yer the only one on the team now, though. Maybe ya should join up wit' those Archangels. That'd give ya an excuse t' run 'round in costume doin' good!"

Kyo winced a bit. Oh. It was a vigilante thing. Yikes. Why did that always come up with Nana around lately? It was like the cosmos wanted to force her to endure the most awkward conversation topic short of decapitation there was to converse about with her. Kyo's eyes flitted briefly to Nana's other hand when the blanket shifted and the sight drove that irritating thought from her mind. For one heart-stopping moment--in which she was almost sure her heart had actually stopped--Kyo revisited a bit of the panic from the previous night when she'd perched on the roof across from Nana's office and seen it in flames...

"Yikes," Kyo said, choosing to dwell on the topic of Conan and forcing her eyes back to Nana's face, hopefully without letting any of her feelings show on her face. "Well, uh, y'know I have the whole series twice over! Sorta bought the volumes and then bought the whole series in three-and-one big versions so I could just letcha have all my volumes if ya really want and then ya can return those t' the library. These're actually from my own bookshelf, I was, heheh, sorta in a rush."

Kyo rubbed at the back of her neck, looking at Tsukasa.

"Well, for all anyone I know knows, I'm just here t' check how Hanako's doin', so they won't find out through me," she said.

The intergalactic crime mark thing wasn't something she wanted to remark upon. The mention of the Archangels was super awkward, too! Gosh, was it getting hot in here? Shit, her face was red now, wasn't it. She still didn't even really know for sure where she stood with Nana after her involvement with the Archangels came out, and that wasn't a conversation she wanted to have in front of Tsukasa, who... oh right she'd been there during that mob incident with Kazue and...

...God dammit, Nana.

It was revenge. This awkwardness was revenge for playing hero on Nana's turf. Kyo was sure of it. Forty-five percent sure, anyway. Which was about as sure as she ever was when she guessed at what was going on in the other greenhead's brain.

"I mean I'm not really... mad at you anymore, I think." Tsukasa said, twiddling her thumbs. "I mean you're definitely no galactic villain."

She hadn't been paying much attention to what Kyo had been going on about. Even the whole archangels thing seemed to go over her head.

"Er... I'm sorry about yelling at you that one time." She finally added, leaving it rather vague.

"Aw nah, you don't gotta. It ain't like I haven't seen it all on TV by now, and I think I've read it all at least once... and I ain't got much time t' read 'sides right now." Nana smiled weakly and turned to look at Tsukasa.

"Awww, ya ain't gotta 'pologize. I was doin' some pretty villainous stuff back then. Or it prob'bly looked like it t' ya. I don't blame ya a bit fer reactin' the way ya did," Nana said. "I mean, we've had some good times too. Like beatin' up Greenhair's boyfriend that one time! Still can't see what ya see in him, by the way." She turned to Kyo and grinned.
