Beaten up.

Cut up.

Set on fire.

That's the information Machi managed to obtain while strong-arming the hospital's staff into disclose Hanako's condition, after the emergency call she obtained. She was in no way aware she was Hanako's emergency contact, but that didn't matter.

She hated herself for not being there when Hanako had needed her the most.

"GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY WAY!" Yelled a certain blonde as she sped through traffic in a rather deranged manner, looking obviously unstable, practically punching the vehicle's horn while bypassing another. The poor man sitting next to her looked like he was scared shitless.

"P-Please, Machi-chan--"

"Fuck you!"

"..." Yuki sighed lightly at his fiancee. He couldn't blame her. Her best friend was in a critical condition - he would've snapped a little too, should he be in that situation, and thus could not blame her in the slighest.

He looked down at the object in his hands - Machi's cellphone, what delivered the bad news. He managed to save the poor thing from getting smashed into a wall, and the girl's unstable state clearly prevented her from even considering calling others - it was up to him to make the dreadful calls.

He only knew of two others who knew Hanako proper - Shou and Taketo. He decided to call the first, while hoping not to get into an awful car accident.

Then again, they'd probably get to the hospital faster that way.

"U-Um... Hello?" The boy asked as the receiver picked up. "This is Yuki Ishinomori... We met the other day?" Yuki decided not to give time for Shou to respond, lest his vocal chords get cut by a flying glass shard before he got a chance to speak again. "I need you to listen to me very carefully. Your friend, Hanako Ito, is in very bad shape and is in the local hospital. You should--AAAAAAAH!" The boy screamed as his life flashed before his eyes...

...Oh, it was just a near miss.

"YOU DRIVE LIKE MY GRANDMA!"

"A-Anyway, you should probably warn others... I never saw Machi-chan like this... I'll call Taketo-kun next." After not so pleasant goodbyes, they had arrived.

Well, so-so. Machi just 'parked' the truck right in front of the hospital, and ran out of the car, not bothering to close the door or set the alarm or even park it right, bolting straight to the building's emergency area. Yuki sighed and moved over to the driver's seat, picking up the slack for himself.

On his way back, he called Taketo, but heard quite the commotion inside the building. In a jog pacing, he made his way in, only to find Machi attempting to force her way past the security itself. Given her training, she proved to be quite the handful.

"M-Machi-chan! Please, stop!" Yuki raced to hold her back, just like the security personnel, trying to stop the girl from barging in while her friend was still being treated.

It would be quite the rough night, wouldn't it?

Taketo was sparring with Alan on Injustice: Gods Among Us when he got a call from Machi.

Or, so he thought.

He had no time to inquire when he heard Yuki's voice on the phone, along with a pretty big background noise that sounded like a bar fight.

Mostly because he was a bit speechless at the information relayed. His tone though, proved that it was no joke.

"I-I understand..." was all Taketo could say before hanging up and explaining the situation to Alan.

Less than 2 minutes from then they were in a cab, with Taketo basically yelling and occasionally throwing money at the driver to accelerate.

His mind kept flooding with questions, but he knew he had to keep it together. No telling how Machi would be, and they had stay strong for Hanako.

After what seemed like the longest cab ride ever, Taketo hastily paid the man and ran into the hospital, going to the emergency ward as Yuki had instructed, Alan accompanying him.

"In here!" He said as he walked in the ward, almost immediately spotting Yuki and, what he imagined, was the bar fight he had heard on the phone.

He was only slightly surprised to see Machi almost beating the hospital staff, with Yuki struggling to pry her off. This was Hanako, what was he expecting to accomplish...? He sighed, approaching carefully, so as to not be hit by a randomly flailing limb.

"Uh... Is there any info on Hanako-san?" He said in a slighty high tone, hoping to be heard.

"Can't someone sedate her or something?" It may be the only way to actually get any information around there...

Alan couldn't believe it.

Hanako was in the hospital. The news had actually stunned both him and even Whisp into silence. The boy had simply nodded and rushed out of the house with Taketo.

After a rather long cab ride full of yelling and throwing money they had finally reached the hospital. Still in silence he followed Taketo to the emergency ward.

He was again stunned when he saw Machi pretty much trying to kill the staff to get to Hanako's room.

Geez...I forgot how scary she could be...

"Maybe that would be best..."

Shou on the other hand had simply been wandering around when he got the call. When he looked at the caller he actually grew excited for a second, maybe somehow it would be good news.

But of course, it wasn't Machi.

And it definitely wasn't good news.

Having enough sense to NOT steal a car when he was possibly still being watched, the boy found a cab and practically threw all the money he had at the man simply to get him to the hospital quickly.

He was out of the car before it had even stopped, and had jogged quickly into the hospital, quickly making his way to the emergency ward.

His eyes widened slightly as he saw the scene. "Machi-chan!" He called out as he neared the group. Against his better judgement, he reached out and tried to pull Machi off the hospital security.

None of this was helping Hanako.

"Oh, shit, Watanabe, can you handle it?" One of the nurses had tapped him for dealing with someone getting unruly. He always got tapped for that.

"Yeah, I got it." Shit, he could have heard that coming a mile away. He recognized that voice. He wasn't quite sure what this was about, but he was expecting anything after he messaged about Ito's condition.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa! Calm the fuck down, Kijimuta!" He approached, hands up to try and get her to calm down, and to try and physically retrain her if that failed and things were getting ugly. Well, uglier than they already gotten.

"I need you to calm down, tell me who you're here to see." He didn't know she was close with Ito, otherwise, perhaps this would have been less of a surprise to him.

"LET ME SEE HER!" Machi yelled while struggling violently against Yuki, Shou, Benkei, essentially whoever the fuck dared to get in her way. She wasn't afraid of kicking and punching just to reach a certain someone's room.

"M-Machi-chan! I doubt she can receive visitors...!" Yuki attempted to protest, trying to still pry the girl away. As he was about to answer Taketo, his nose was greeted by quite the powerful elbow, effectively breaking it. The blow from his fiancee threw him off guard, and he staggered backwards, falling on his butt with a bloody, broken nose.

"Ow..." He muttered while holding a hand in front of the wounded area. Good thing they were already at the hospital. Machi didn't seem to notice what she had done, and just kept on trying to bypass security forcefully.

"Hanako! Let me see Hanako!" She barked, tears of despair and anger at herself sliding down her cheeks, her tone quite ferocious unlike usual.

"U-Um..." Yuki got up by himself, and glanced at Taketo and Alan. Might as well explain things before being treated himself. "From what I heard... Hanako-chan is in a pretty bad state. Pretty badly beaten and cut up, and she was..." He seemed to shiver in horror, before being able to speak. "...Set on fire. We don't know if she'll make it..."

Best Influence.
Shin didn't connect to Bedlam on his work computer, figuring it best to isolate his work life from his activities as a persona user, and so was quite surprised when he received a text from his nephew:

Text Message

From: Naoya

Ito-san in hospital. Urgent. Possible relation to case?

He took his lunch break early, leaving a notice with the uniformed officer working as receptionist that he might be late due to an emergency. He drove at exactly the speed limit to his apartment building, cigarette dangling from one corner of his mouth. He looped out of the Matechi street area, and picked up Naoya, who had been waiting on the steps of their apartment building and got up when he saw the sedan pulling up.

Shin barely slowed down as his wiry nephew hopped up and slid both feet through the passenger side window.

"Didn't think y'd've stopped," Naoya muttered.

"You're the one who said it was an emergency. Buckle up."

With the same mechanical adherence to the speed limit and traffic laws, Shin pulled an immediate U-turn and headed straight for the hospital, making allowances to use alleyways and parking lots as gray-area shortcuts. At exactly seventeen and one half minutes after receiving the message, and eight and a quarter minutes after picking up his nephew, Shin pulled into a parking space and climbed from his car; Naoya followed, scrambling to keep up with his taller uncle.

"Know how she was injured?" he asked Naoya.

"Uh...th' message said something like 'Beaten 'n' lit on fire.'"

"Fucking hell," Shin said. If this business had gotten so bad that Ito had been injured in that fashion...

They could all be in trouble. He was insulated a bit by his profession, but the others lacked any protection of the sort.

When they entered, there was quite a scene: Machi Kijimuta was attempting to wrestle the whole hospital in an effort to reach Hanako, and several other people -- students from Taiyoutono from the look of it, as well as Benkei Watanabe -- were trying to calm her down. One of the students had a hand over his nose and a thin trickle of blood coming from between his fingers.

The Imotos looked at one another. Naoya said: "That's, uh, that's fer Ito-san."

"Look after the guy on the ground," Shin said with a sigh. Naoya nodded.

The older Imoto -- dressed in the smart-looking suit and tie he wore while on the job, glasses perched firmly atop his nose -- stepped forward and moved to snatch one of the flailing young woman's arms. Normally, he wouldn't bother worrying about a small young woman like this, but he knew better than to underestimate someone based on appearances, these days. He was fully prepared to use all of the techniques he had formerly used to restrain struggling arrestees from when he still had the opportunity to chase criminals. Given that she didn't appear to be aware of his presence, though, he was fairly confident of his ability to handle the situation.

"Calm down. You aren't helping," he said in what he had heard referred to as a "cop voice." He turned to Benkei and nodded. "They're looking for Hanako Ito. Is she able to take visitors?"

Naoya approached the boy with the bloodied nose, who had gotten up by himself in the meantime. He had absolutely no idea who Yuki was, but knew a thing or two about healing people without their knowledge: the trick was to distract them with something odd and surreptitiously channel just enough healing magic into them to prevent permanent damage while leaving enough superficial damage that they could believe that they had exaggerated the severity of the wound.

Thankfully, Naoya himself was something odd, it made it easy.

"Wow, looks like she clocked you right good, eh?" he said, clapping a hand on Yuki's shoulder, channeling just a thing trickle of diarama through the touch to nudge the deeper structural parts of the boy's nose back into shape. "Might, y'know, might wanna get that looked at, brain damage ain't nothing t' sneeze at, trust me."

On that morbid note, delivered from just slightly too close, Naoya rocked back on his feet, and watched to see how the boy would react.

"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"
Running footsteps. Kyo Charinko didn't have a car; this was the second time she had received word that a friend had gotten into a bad situation and run multiple blocks in her hurry to get there. This time, her leg-bones weren't in the process of recovering from being shattered and then magically re-assembled, so she didn't collapse upon entry.

But she did barrel onto the scene and skid to a stumbling halt, panting with her arms on her knees, lungs burning with exertion and her leg-muscles screaming at her in a silent approximation of the words THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING, BITCH?!

Kyo's eyes, scanned the scene, her expression too obviously dominated by the sheer flush of exertion to register the panic she was feeling. Her eyes fell on Machi, whose mania best expressed her own feelings, but unlike Machi, Kyo was spent, and all of her knee-jerk hysteria had been worked off on the run over...

"M-Machi!" she barked out, half-shouting and half-gasping. "Don't--get in the way! If the hospital staff--if the hospital staff has t' hold any of us back, they can't do what they--what they gotta t' save--Hanako!"

It was very basic logic; Kyo forced her legs to walk, almost tripping once on the way, ignoring all of the others on the scene, approaching the place where Machi was being held back.

"She'll--they'll save her, but if she's burned, they need t'--need t' keep people away! Infections--"

How much of this got through to Machi, or was even heard over her own shouting, well, that was a thing... but Kyo wasn't in any state to hold Machi back with the others. So, instead, she put herself in front of the girl, probably to get slam-tackled if Benkei and Shou lost their grip on the girl--

Good thing Benkei's immune to the whole... physical-attack thing, Kyo thought wildly, although in this state, would Machi keep a clear enough head not to use magic? Kyo's eyes darted to Shin. This was a volatile situation, and it was all Kyo could even do herself not to whirl around and try to mount her own assault on wherever the hell Hanako was.

Just as soon as Yuki was about to respond, an elbow went and saw fit to hit him right in the face. Taketo stepped forward to him as he was kocked down.

"You okay?!" At this point, the previous hostility of their first meeting didn't even register anymore.

He turned to Machi "What the fuck is your problem?! Stop that so they can do their jobs!" Taketo wanted Hanako safe as much as anyone, and the last thing Machi was doing was aiding in that happening.

When he turned back to Yuki, he was already standing up.

And the information he relayed made Taketo feel sick to his stomach.

"...Set... Set on fi-..." He couldn't form the words, but the visual wouldn't leave his head.

The horror... He took a moment to made sure he didn't throw up right then and there. He didn't even notice Shou and other people arriving, only noticing when an unknown boy walked over to Yuki.

"...Who the hell are you?" He was acting pretty casually for such a situation.

Set on fire. It still hadn't left his mind. They didn't even know if she'd make it...? No. No, that wouldn't happen.

It was a yell that made him turn around to the commotion once more. Upon doing so, his eyes fell upon the new arrivals. A tall man, also trying to make Machi calm down, and the origin of the yell.

Kyo.

One look at her was all it took to see that she was in quite the state of panic as well. How could she not be...? Hanako was... set on fire. Among other things...

Who the hell would do this...

Taketo had no words for this situation. He just stood there, still trying to process the reality of what was going on. That he might lose a friend.

Set on fire...

-insert something witty here-

As soon as Isoroku received the news about Hanako's hospitalization, she immediately rushed to the hospital from her workplace. She didn't tell her boyfriend about this because he also had his own problem to deal with, so she came alone. Then, when she arrived, she saw the little event unfolding right before her, and she elected to remain in the background for the time being, until she got the information about the reason why Hanako was hospitalized in the first place.

"B-burned...?" Isoroku had to suppress her gasp when she heard that. Covering her mouth with her hand, she slowly approached the group. She looked at Machi who looked like she was about to lose her mind due to Hanako's condition. She thought that she might need to do something about it, but then decided against it because she might complicate the situation even further.

All she needed to do was to wait and see.

"Geez, Machi-chan STOP! How the fuck will this help her!?" He shouted rather harshly. He knew she wouldn't calm down, he didn't care if he got punched or kicked or bitten, he simply continued to pull at the girl, trying his best to subdue her. "Oh hey there Benkei-san...could use a little help here..." He muttered as he heard his voice.

With all the action, it actually took his mind a moment to process what Yuki said...

Burned...She was burned.

"Kill" seemed to be the only thought on his mind. Who in the hell would do something like that? Since he was currently busy dealing with Machi, he hardly noticed the new visitors.

Alan again found himself stunned into silence as Yuki spoke. Burned...She was set on fire? So many questions filled his mind at once that he hardly noticed anyone at all.

His eye kept itself fixed on the ground as the voices began to get drowned out by the pounding in his head. How could someone do this? Why? Who? Slowly, his hands began to shake as he tried to keep himself together.
