I'm the best! I'm the king of me! I'm gonna eat chips out of the garbage!

The caterpillar let out an earsplitting shriek as the fire struck it, and a large glob of plastic melted from its face and splatted to the ground before rapidly forming into a small nuclear caterpillar. Suzume shot her rifle and the bullet penetrated right through its forehead, and the caterpillar detonated in a small explosion.

"Keep on like that, Endo-san!" Suzume called. It was weak to fire. That was good, that meant she could definitely kill it with the bombs.

Makoto proceeded further down the hallway, crouching down every now and then to place a bomb. When he ran out, he ducked behind some debris. "Hey, I set them all!"

"We need to get out of here," Suzume said. She looked around the room and saw a door that appeared to be blocked by debris a little down the hall. She turned to Ryouta. "Can you blast that open? I'm gonna try and distract it." She raised her rifle and shot toward the wall.

"D-distract it? Maybe I should do that, I mean I've got a thicker skull probably..." Ryouta shouted somewhat half heartedly. "Nevermind!" He finally replied back. Suzume was a smart girl and she probably knew what she was doing.

Ryouta launched an explosive burst of fire at the debris, hoping to open the way for them.

The debris was blasted away from the doorway, and Suzume grabbed Ryouta's shirt by the sleeve, dragging him toward the door. "Hurry, hurry!"

Back in the hall, Makoto summoned his Persona. "Alright, time for our all too quickly decided phase two..." His Persona flung a Garula in the caterpillar's direction. The spell impacted harmlessly with the Shadow's body, but caused it to turn in his direction.

"Come and get me, asshole!" Makoto yelled before turning tail and running. The caterpillar started chasing after him. Suzume looked over her shoulder as the caterpillar blew past their position, then tugged Ryouta to the ground.

"Cover your ears!"

A split second later, the world exploded around them. The moment one of the caterpillar's grotesque feet landed on one of the mines, it exploded, and the explosion set off a chain reaction that set off every bomb in the hallway. The explosive force of the bombs practically vaporized the caterpillar and sent up a large cloud of smoke.

Suzume remained on the ground for a moment, her ears still covered, and waited.

Ryouta was surprised at how much force Suzume carried in her tug and was pulled right along with her once the debris had been cleared. He didn't need much convincing to cover his ears, and he was certainly glad he did. The explosion was huge, but it appeared to take the shadow down with it.

Now, Ryouta wasn't too sure how the explosives had gotten there in the first place, and he wasn't sure he wanted to know why, but he was mostly just happy to be alive. It was just a shame that all the ash was making him sneeze.

Suzume waited. She let go of Ryouta and slowly stood up, craning her head over the rolling clouds of ash, and then poked her head out the door.

"Everyone still alive?" she called.

Makoto lifted his head. The shadow's explosion had knocked a nearby door off of its hinges, and the bits and bobs of door were rolling across the floor. A crystal doorknob that didn't fit with the rest of the decor bumped against his foot, and he picked it up. There was a curious spike sticking out from one end, which Makoto was pretty sure didn't go on a normal doorknob. He shrugged and stuffed the doorknob in his pocket.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Makoto said as he walked toward Suzume and Ryouta.

"Pity." Suzume crouched down and held her hand out to Ryouta. "Are you alright, Ryouta-san?"

"Phew... I-I'm fine. Thanks, Suzume-san."
Ryouta grabbed onto her hand and pulled himself up, patting off some of the soot that had gotten onto his clothes. There was a rather large amount or debris stuck in his hair, but he couldn't really notice that it was there.

"So uh... What now?"

Suzume dusted off her pants with her hand. "Well, I'd intended on visiting somewhere further down that way, but I think we've spent enough time in here as it is..."

"I found a doorknob!" Makoto said, holding out the doorknob for everyone to see.

"Yes, that's wonderful, Nakagawa-san," Suzume said dismissively. "I suppose we should start walking if we want to get out before the Reaper shows up..."

Makoto, on the other hand, was examining the doorknob. The spike on the end was just begging to be stabbed into something. He could use it as a makeshift knife if he really wanted to. Just as a joke, he poked it into the nearby wall and found to his astonishment that it slid in without any resistance. He frowned and turned the knob.

There was a flash of light, and suddenly all three of them were standing outside the entrance to the ruins, with Makoto holding a doorknob in midair.

"Well," Makoto said sheepishly. "That explains what that does."

"What," Suzume said.

Ryouta was relieved to see the door and was significantly less shocked by its appearance than Suzume. There was definitely stranger stuff in the ruins. A magic doorknob that led to the outside? At least this little trinket was useful.

"Phew, I'm glad to be out of there." Ryouta said with a sigh, before sneezing rather loudly. "I-is everyone ok?"

Makoto stuffed the doorknob back in his pocket. Teleporting instant escape doorknob was great. Too bad it probably only worked in the ruins, but hey, still useful.

Suzume shuffled her feet as Ryouta spoke. "Yeah, I'm fine... Um, Ryouta..." She lowered her rifle, putting it on the ground. "You said back in the ruins that you knew what happened when Chou died, and you said you'd tell me what happened when we got out."

She gestured to the field. "Well... here we are."

Ryouta had been so startled by the appearance of the shadow in the ruins that he had kinda forgotten about the fact that this was easily the most awkward and horrible situation of his life. How exactly was he supposed to tell her? Was there even a right way to tell her? What had happened back then was... so horrible. So disgustingly horrible. It made him feel sick slightly just to remember it.

He knew it was right of her to know the truth however. No matter what he felt, he had no right to hide the truth from her. The unlucky boy took a deep breath, looking straight at Suzume.

"Suzume-san... what happened to Chouko-san was... my fault. I-I'm the one that killed her."
Pain and regret were plastered all over his face. His voice was weak.

"I... I won't make excuses. But I am truly, truly sorry."
He did his best not to break eye contact with Suzume.
