The fireballs burst upon impact with the Shadow and the added firepower quickly caused it to catch aflame. It let out an unearthly screech, stretched one twisted arm into the air, and collapsed onto its chest before burning away into a black ash. "Phew..." Suzume stood up and wiped some sweat from her brow. "That wasn't the 'big one' you were looking for, was it?" Makoto asked. "No, the one I'm looking for's a caterpillar, but it's got a clown face. It's blocking the stairs here, and I need to use those to get to where I'm going. And it looks rather strong too, so we should probably kill it before someone less experienced ends up here." "Sounds creepy. Let's go!" Makoto started walking down the hallway. Suzume sighed and turned toward Ryouta. "I don't know how I keep ending up working with insufferable people..." she said exasperatedly. "Oh, no, I didn't mean you, but... between him and Samurakami-san..." |

Ryouta was finally able to loosen up when the Shadow was finally destroyed, thankfully without much trouble. Makoto and Suzume seemed intent on delving a bit further into the ruins, and while Ryouta still wasn't feeling well, he felt obligated to go with the two to make sure they would be ok. It seemed strange for him to think it, but didn't he have the most experience out of all of them? That was very worrisome. Ryouta sniffed slightly before turning his attention to Suzume. "Oh... it's no big deal." He responded, waving his hand. "My luck is really awful. I'm sort of an insufferable person to be around sometimes." |

"Oh, no, you're not insufferable at all! I actually really enjoy being around you..." Suzume said, her voice trailing off toward the end. She shook her head. "We should go before Nakagawa-san gets too far ahead of us." They continued walking until they reached another large room. Suzume stopped and frowned. She was sure this is the way to the caterpillar... had it moved? It would sure make things a lot easier for her if she did. "What's that on the ground?" Suzume looked down. There were old, brown-red stains across the floor. Her eyes followed them to a dark corner of the room. In the corner of the room there was a rather curious arrangement set up. Bouquets of flowers lay in a pile in the corner and surrounded four paint cans. The amount of dead, withered flowers in the pile suggested that this arrangement had been here for some time, but the bouquets on top looked fresh. There appeared to be a painting in progress on the wall, but it was in such an early state that Suzume couldn't make out what it was. She caught sight of a letter laying in the pile of flowers and picked it up. The handwriting on the paper was stiff and angular, and vaguely familiar, which was odd because Suzume was sure all of her friends wrote in a much more loose manner than this. There's no amount of apologizing that will make up for what I've done. Even so, I want you to know that I'm sorry. "It looks like a memorial," Makoto said. "I used to find a lot of them before the Reaper showed up. Things like people finding where their friends had died in the ruins and making little grave markers for them. But that stuff takes time to make and, well, you just don't have time when a mean guy with revolvers is waiting around the corner to blow your brains out." He sighed. "Whoever's been maintaining this one has some dedication, though. This is a pretty deep area of the ruins, and that's a lot of flowers." Suzume nodded and placed the letter back in the pile. She clapped her hands in front of her and began to pray. "Yeah, I guess that's the respectful thing to do, huh?" Makoto sighed. "Sorry, whoever's here. You deserved a better end than in a grimy lab full of monsters." Edited by FirebreathFishslap, Oct 8 2013, 11:30 PM.

Ryouta hadn't actually heard what Suzume said about him not being insufferable, as a rather fearsome sneeze overtook him at that exact moment. "Ugh... I'm sorry." Ryouta responded with a sniffle. He walked along with Suzume and Makoto, eventually coming across the memorial. His stomach turned at the sight as unpleasant memories nagged at the back of his mind. He wasn't sure who this particular memorial was built for, but it depressed him all the same. Ryouta followed suit after Suzume, giving a quick respectful prayer. |

After a while, Suzume unclasped her hands. They had to get moving, and she didn't want to hang around long enough for the Reaper to come. She motioned for the two of them to follow and began to walk, Makoto following suit. No matter how much she tried to keep her brain off of it, the memorial kept digging at her brain. Someone else had died, just like Chouko. Someone else was suffering like she was. It kept nagging at her. She dropped back to where Ryouta was. "...I actually knew someone who died in here," she said. "Not the person at that memorial but... she was a good friend of mine. You've been a Persona user for a while, so you must have heard about it when it happened... Does anything like that sound familiar?" |

"Huh?" Ryouta was somewhat taken aback by Suzume's question. A girl that had died? There had been a few as far as he knew, but he had only been there personally... Ryouta's heart sank into the pit of his stomach. She couldn't possibly be referring to Chouko, could she? "I... I was actually there when someone died once." Ryouta said, his voice far quieter than before. His nose sniffled slightly. Even though he had mostly come to terms with what had happened, the memory still plagued him. "You're not talking about C-Chouko-san, are you?" |

Makoto looked over his shoulder at the two and frowned. This discussion was going into some dangerous territory. Should he intervene? It would be bad if things went to hell and a Shadow showed up. But honestly, he had no motivation to actually step in and stop Suzume from losing it if she found out the truth, and if she tried to kill Ryouta, he could always step in and hold her back. Not like she had any particularly strong Persona powers. Suzume nodded. "Yeah... Chou was killed here..." She walked a few steps forward before what Ryouta said sunk in. "Wait... did you say that you saw Chou die? Does that mean you know who killed her?!" She grabbed Ryouta by the shoulders, shaking him a bit. "Please, tell me! Are they still alive? Who are they?!" |

Ryouta was really not prepared for Suzume to grab him. For one, she was probably going to catch his cold if she got too close to him. That, and he was already slightly on edge from the current subject at hand. "I..." Ryouta began, averting his eyes from Suzume. "I know who did it. T-they're still alive." He brought his eyes back up to level, having mustered up a bit of determination. "I promise I'll tell you. But... let's finish up here first. W-when we get out, I'll tell you." |

Suzume lowered her hands from Ryouta's shoulders. After they left. Right, that was the important part. They had to clear out that Shadow from the ruins. It would be bad if anyone else came across it. She had to pull herself together, at least for now. "I'm sorry..." she shook her head. "You're correct, we should get out of here first. Which way were we--" At that moment, the wall exploded. Suzume shielded her face from debris with her arm and crouched down. "Incoming!" Makoto yelled. Suzume lifted her arm from her face to see a clown's face looking right at her, nuclear vomit dripping from its mouth. Upon closer examination, it had a caterpillar body and was scurrying along the ground. "No, it didn't give us any time!" Suzume looked back at Makoto, who was still clutching a few land mines close to his body. "Nakagawa-san, we need to set those bombs!" "What the hell is that thing?!" "It's what we're here to kill! Now move!" She pulled her rifle from her back and crouched behind a large piece of debris. "Endo-san, help me hold it off!" The Caterpillar reared up and spewed nuclear vomit across the battlefield. Ryouta did the natural thing that most people would do when faced with a giant, nuclear, vomiting caterpillar that burst out of the wall. He shrieked slightly, and hurled a massive ball of fire in its direction on reflex. Why did it have to be clowns? Clowns were like, objectively creepy. He just hoped they would be able to finish it off soon. |
