Subaru had told Shinta to follow her to meet Kinzaki. She had told the heiress a while ago that she would need to see Shinta. So, they arrived in front of Kirihara Mansion by a limousine.

"We've arrived," Subaru said to Shinta. She hoped that she wouldn't worry the other employees with her slightly damaged uniform because of the exploration earlier. "Welcome to Kirihara Mansion, Shinta-kun."

Having lived in eternal poverty, Shinta felt envious of Kirihara's luxurious place of residence. "Damn..." said Shinta quietly. "I could work myself to the grave and still wouldn't be able to afford a place like this..."

Subaru pretended to not hear what Shinta was saying. It was normal for people like Shinta to be envious of her mistress. After all, Kirihara was one of the richest families in Japan. "Let's get inside, Shinta-kun. Kinzaki Ojou-sama is already waiting for us..." she said.

So, she escorted Shinta into the mansion to see Kinzaki.

Shinta followed behind Subaru, a little miffed that she didn't even acknowledge that he was talking. A thought crossed his mind: could he get away with swiping something from here? He shook his head, discarding the unusually tempting thought. But these people had everything, and he had next to nothing.

So, without saying any word, Subaru led Shinta into the mansion, and they entered a room where they met the heiress of Kirihara family, Kinzaki Kirihara, clad in her kimono while having two bodyguards standing beside her. The way she carried herself was almost regal, as if she was a princess herself.

"Welcome back, Subaru-kun, and welcome to Kirihara Mansion, Shinta-san," Kinzaki greeted both of them. "Subaru-kun had told me a while earlier through phone, and I hope you can make yourself comfortable," she smiled at the boy.

"Before that," Kinzaki looked at Subaru. "Subaru-kun, you look horrible in that uniform. Don't tell me you injured yourself at the ruins again," she gave her butler a slightly disdainful look.

"I apologize, Ojou-sama," Subaru bowed.

"Well, no matter. Go change your clothes and return here after changing," Kinzaki ordered her butler to change her uniform.

"Understood," Subaru nodded before she left.

"So..." Kinzaki looked at Shinta. "Shinta-san, right? Now that we're here, let me ask you something..." she remained smiling. "Do you know Subaru-kun's secret?" she asked.

Shinta froze up. He had no idea what to say- should he just say no, as if to show Kinzaki what his response would be if anyone asked? Should he just be honest.

Shinta decided to be honest. "Yes, I do. However, I will take Subaru's secret to my grave." said Shinta. "You could torture me, blackmail me, put a gun to my head, and I still wouldn't tell."

Kinzaki smiled. "Good. That's very reassuring," she said, looking at Shinta with her eerily cheerful look. "However, I am still not convinced. Letting other people knowing about this secret is already very risky, and if if this continues, then Subaru will have to stop being a butler," she turned around, letting her back facing the boy.

"For Subaru, being a butler defines her existence. If the job is forcefully taken away from her, then the very foundation of her existence will crumble, and if that happens," she glanced at Shinta. "She may commit suicide. I don't want that to happen..." she turned around to look at Shinta.

"So... right now, Subaru's life is in your hand. Announce her secret to public, then she'll die," Kinzaki said, still having her eerily cheerful expression on her face. "So... will you still take her secret to your grave?" she asked. It was intentional from her part as she made the atmosphere tense for Shinta by giving him quite a sadistic choice.

"Yes." said Shinta. "Especially now that Subaru's life depends on it." He thought saying that Subaru's life was at stake was a tad melodramatic. "I just have one question: Why does Subaru need to pass herself off as a guy?"

"Well, you can say that it's because of her own circumstances," Kinzaki answered. "Her mother died after giving birth to her, leaving her the only child of Suzuhara family, a branch of family that has sworn to be Kirihara's butler. Her father can remarry, but it's not that easy," she said.

"So... since Subaru is born a girl, technically she is not allowed to become a butler. But she wants to continue her family's tradition, so she insists on becoming our family's butler. That's why she disguises herself as a male. She thinks that if she doesn't do that, then her family's tradition will die..." Kinzaki said, explaining Subaru's circumstances.

"But, that's another matter entirely," Kinzaki shrugged. "The thing that we need to discuss right now is about you," she looked at Shinta. "It's good that you've promised to never ever tell any living being about Subaru's real gender, but I am not a person to be convinced by mere words..."

Still smiling cheerfully, Kinzaki added, "So... I need more than just words. What I need here... is a contract..."

The minute Kinzaki said 'contract', Shinta frowned. He didn't like this turn of events. "I'm a man of my word and honor. That's all the 'contract' you need." said the teen, his voice icy. "If you're trying to get me to sign a contract, I want to see the fine print so I know exactly what I'm getting into..."

He felt suspicious about this development. Did this constitute as extortion...?
