"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"

Kyo caught the bowl, scowled at Charles, chucked it right back at him, and said, "That 'little bird' I was talkin' bout was Shin, dummy." When Naoya spoke, Kyo pulled up one of the chairs at the side of the room and sat herself down at his bedside, crossing her leg in a most masculine fashion and yawning a bit. Naoya was right to notice how tired she was; Kyo was still adjusting to the nocturnal schedule her ascended Persona forced her to run with... "Yeah, it's been a while, no mistake," Kyo said with a nod. "And o' course, shit in the city won't stop happenin'. Now we got some creepy Gnarly-lather-tap cult in town, some poor schmuck got nailed to a tree the other day, skinned and crucified in the park. Uh, prolly pronounced that wrong. Somethin' outta Lovecraft, I know that much." Kyo rubbed at the back of her neck and added: "And, well, I been through a lotta shit o' my own, but that's all little stuff. Not really worth, y'know, gettin' into much." |

"I'm still the biggest bird though." Charles downed the last of his dumplings in record time. Time for more conversation. "So yeah, Naoya. You haven't missed much these past few weeks. I got into a few tussles and I fucked up my nose again. I dunno. Kyo's been living her life. She saw me smack a dude with a car door, but besides that, shit's been mostly the same." "Look at you! Look at all the people you fuc-" Charles blinked rapidly. His thoughts were going a bit haywire today. Edited by RickenbackersAllTheWay, Jun 30 2013, 04:34 AM.

Naoya grimaced. It was clear that they were hiding something. There was a brief bloom of yellow in Naoya's eyes, a ring that spread outward from the pupil and disappeared at the edge of the iris. The golden color moved through Naoya's dark eyes like the ripple a stone left when it passed through the surface of a calm pond. It was gone in less than the time it took to blink. He shuddered, and the color drained from his face, but he shook his head. Swallowing once, he spoke. "Look, uh..." He looked down at his hands, which he had gathered in his lap beneath the hospital table. "I feel like, like...like I've been kind of wrapped up in my own shit for too long. It was important, it had t' be done, but I get th' feelin' that I've been neglectin' my friends. Y'all have been really goddamn helpful t' me, and I get the feeling...yeah. Y' both look like, um, y'got shit eatin' you up. You don't have t' tell me if -- I mean, y'know -- y'don't want t' do so, but I'm goin' t' be back on my feet soon, an' I want t' help if y' need it." |

Kyo had been on the lookout for anything that might indicate trouble upstairs, but even so she almost missed the flicker of yellow in Naoya's eyes. When she saw that flicker, her first thought was that it was a trick of the light--it came and went so fast that she couldn't be sure she'd actually seen it, so she kept her reaction hidden and didn't comment. When he spoke, though, Kyo grimaced herself and looked away. "Ah, it's not that I wasn't gonna say," she said. "Yeah, I got shit goin' down in my life, I just didn't wanna hit ya with it right out the gate." She paused, trying to consider how much to say now, with Charles present. A moment later, she looked to Naoya again, met his eyes, and said: "...Went through a bad sorta not-ascension sorta ascension. I think. Persona's been a bit of a bitch ever since. I'm fine, though. I'm dealin' with it. Right now I'm more worried about my boyfriend. He's goin' through therapy, tryin' t'... find out what sorta mental problem he has." |

Charles stared intently in the meantime as Naoya talked. There was something off about him for a few seconds. Maybe he got jaundice really quickly? Maybe it was just the light. His eyes looked weird, but he blinked and everything was fine. But then he said something about feeling self-centered and wanting to help and not being there and all that. It kind of made him sick to his stomach. "Well, one at a time then. I guessed you and Hiroko woulda gone through some crazy shit sooner or later, man. Just. Sucks that it did, you know?" said the boy, distracting himself. |

Naoya picked up the bowl of natto and rice and mixed it, before pushing the hospital table out of the way. He folded up his legs in a lotus position beneath the sheets and began to eat it. "Not-ascension, eh? Y'might wanna talk t' Susaki-san, Okawa-san or...hrmn...blindspot in the research, I think. Think I remember Hitomi-san had a second one, but I think th' first one was most definitely a proper one. Or at least not a non-one." He took a bite of the fermented tofu, and looked at Kyo again. "Sorry. Wrong line'a reasonin'. Sadly I don't really know, uh...Tachibana-san. I mean, he came by once an' we traded puns while I made him a thing, but I don't know 'im. If y'wanna swing by the forge once I'm outta this goddamn backless nightgown an' talk about th' situation, I'd be more'n happy t' hear it. Don't know if I c'n be much help, er, 'r anything, but you c'n check if'n y'want, y'll see I tell no tales about this sorta thing." It felt weird eating natto with a plastic fork. Changed the taste of it, somehow. Still, natto was natto, and he hadn't eaten any for a while, now. Naoya glanced at Charlie, he had seen something flicker across his friend's face, and felt a sinking feeling in his gut. The last time he'd had a friend he was as close to as Charlie, it had ended poorly, to say the least. |

Kaede and Kaji... thought Kyo, frowning a bit. Yeah, come to think of it, Kaede had gone 'round the twist for a little while before Kyo had met her, and then there was Kaji, who ascended to a bad Persona at one point, if she remembered right from his Moksa interview. She could easily talk to either of them about this, but... "Yeah, I know both o' them," Kyo said. "Thanks for remindin' me, I'd almost forgotten they were an option. And uh, yeah, let's talk about this next time I swing by the metalworks. I don't wanna hold ya off from talkin' t' Chuck about his stuff." She shot Charles a look of concern, then. "And I'd kinda like t' hear it too, if somethin's eatin' ya," she added to the other boy. "Or wouldja rather I not be here? I can vacate, if I hafta." |

Charles' gaze glazed over for a moment as he stared at the floor. For a moment, his reflection almost looked like Enrique. Charles blinked rapidly as the drill started in his head again. For a moment, his reflection was blurry, but the colors on his eyes and forehead turned into a cloud of scarlet, like the holes bored into Enrique's head. He shook his head, and returned to the conversation. "What he said, man. You can chat with me about your shit too, even if I have no experience with the ascending stuff. I'll try to help as much as possible." said the youth, slowly as he came to his senses. The boy froze when they asked him about how he felt. "Oh no, you don't have to leave it's just like, I dunno know where to start, right? I just got a whole buncha shit man. Shit I haven't thought about in ages." said the youth with an embarrassed laugh. |

Naoya smiled ruefully. "Well, y' don't have t' say anything if'n y' don't want t' talk about it. I am, however, a bit of a, uh, a captive audience, an' I kinda prefer listenin' t' talkin' f'r obvious reasons." He gave the saline drip into his arm a tug to emphasize the "captive audience" part. "Y' can start at th' beginnin' if y' want. I got th' time t' listen t' anybody j...talk about any old damn thing they want to, but you're Charlie goddamn Oliviera. 'Course I want t' listen to what's on....what y've been wrestlin' with." He leaned back and continued to eat his natto: its earthy, fermented smell filled the room. He understood that the others may not like the scent, so he began to work at it quickly, trying to get it all down before the odor became overpowering. |

Kyo chuckled a bit at the captive-audience quip, leaning back a bitch more comfortably in her chair. As worried as she was over her own stuff, there was a certain relief to be found in the spotlight no longer being on her. That said, what actually was eating at Charles? She'd only caught the barest hints that he had troubles of his own during their previous talks. She knew he had some sort of medication thing going, but... that was about it. Mostly they'd just talked about Isoroku... ...And, well, there was whatever was going on between him and Torako as well... she wanted to hope that wasn't part of what was actually eating at him, though. "Well, as long as you're fine with me bein' here," said Kyo. "Well, maybe talkin' about it'll help ya figure out where t'begin, ya know? Sometimes ya just needta give voice or words t' this stuff before ya can sort through it." |
