Naoya woke up again. They were talking of moving him out of a private room into a ward, but for now he had his own room. He looked down. There were welts on his chest from the sponge bath they had given him -- the nurses were obviously confused by the allergic reaction he had to the smallest amount of moisture on his skin -- and there were spots where the electrodes from the EKG had pulled out a significant portion of the tiny amount of chest hair he had. They had left the IV drip in, switching it from a nutrient mixture to a pure saline drip. He had been horribly dehydrated, even before the incident with Toru. Apparently being eaten alive had also destroyed his electrolyte balance, leaching out the particles that allowed his muscles and nerves to function and dropping him almost to death's door. Krishna had been the only reason he had survived. If it weren't for the lunatic strength that his monstrous form had granted him, then he would have been eventually devoured and would have been unable to escape. The unparalleled rage had led him to do things which he barely remembered, and of which he was not proud. He sat up, and spotted the meal that they had brought him. Like he had requested, there was a small container of natto alongside his rice. There was also a salad and a bowl with some broccoli and fried tofu. Fluffing his pillows, he sat up and pulled the table over his lap. The hospital gown was a bit breezy, and a size too big. He was glad to have an extra barrier between his crotch and the rest of the world. They had taken his hat and not returned it, leaving him with the gigantic scar on his head exposed to the world. Thankfully, at least, they left the door shut most of the time. Naoya picked up the fork, and began to eat, almost missing the door opening. Edited by Czernobog, Jun 27 2013, 11:23 AM.

Charles slipped in before the door closed, with a bandage set on his nose and a few bandages on his arms. His burns started to tingle a bit, but he ignored them when he set his eyes on Naoya. He was awake. Just like they said he would be. He nearly dropped the bag of food he brought when he saw the boy conscious. "Na-!" His ribs started to hurt when he attempted to shout. "Naoya. I see you're trying out the Oliviera weight loss plan. At least you didn't have someone try liposuction on you with a butterfly knife. And you can eat solids. I'm jealous, man." said the teen, as he noticed the IV in his friend's arm. He chuckled to himself but stumbled by accident. Ouch. That was a difficult thing to remember. "Welcome back to the land of the living, by the way. Coming from a coma feels good, doesn't it?" said the boy, opening his bag of food. |

Naoya smiled when his friend showed up. He reached up and ran a hand along his scalp. Charlie already knew about the scar, but he didn't like having it open to the air. After a second, he made a point of putting his hand down. "Hey, Charlie," he said, his voice low and scratchy. "It, um, it kinda sucks, t' be completely honest, y'know. Just feel like every part 'a me's been put through th' ringer." He nodded ruefully, and gestured at the chair by his bed. Apparently his uncle had sat there for a few hours every day for the past week, doing paperwork on a clipboard and grumbling about the state of the city. "Y' look like ye'r goin' t' have some distinguished-lookin' scars yourself, there. A man can't be p...er...handsome if'n he doesn't have at least a few, um, a crooked bit or two, right? How're you feelin' there?" |

"Hey man, I know. I got turned into sandwich meat the last time I was in the hospital. It does suck, but waking up to someone or something is always nice." said the boy with a grin, thinking back to the last time in the hospital. "That's what friends are for." "Chucky! You're awake!" Charles clutched at his head a bit, falling into the chair with a bit of pain. His legs were starting to feel wobbly again. He shook his headache off and dug into his bag. A container of dumplings with chili sauce. "I've always had distinguishing scars, both inside and out. That's why people like me despite me breaking my nose for what must be the third time now. And the facial disfigurement. And the other crazy shit. It does add handsomeness, you're right." He dug into his food, shoving five dumplings into his mouth and eating them at a rapid pace. "I've been good! Feeling better! A bunch of shit resurfaced lately, but otherwise, I've been good. Emotional baggage caused by my other best friend notwithstanding." His heart started to beat rapidly, as the memories of the fight with Toru came back to his mind and starting bleeding into the memories of Enrique. His breathing started to quicken, and the boy shoved more food in his face to compensate. "How've you been besides in a coma?" |

Naoya blinked, almost starting up out of the bed when Charles had his little episode, but tensing his arm caused the IV to jab pain into his head, and he flinched, rubbing the point where it was inserted into his flesh. Charles seemed to have settled down, and returned to normal afterward, though. He seemed able to bounce back from almost anything. On the other hand... Naoya remained silent. "I don't know," he said, in response to Charlie's question. "I mean...uh...I'm just tryin' 'a get a handle on things, and I...uh...can't." That sounded lame in his own ears. How could someone not know how they were feeling? Besides, didn't he practice meditation to get a handle on himself? Was it possible to just not know? "I don't...don't remember much. Everything's, just, uh, everything I got's behind this sorta veil a' fog. I know you were there, and Yatsu-san and Nakadachi-san got involved. 'S all just a jumble of bullshit, though. I fear I might'a acted like a fuckin' wreck." He shook his head. "'Ll let you know when, um, when I got an' idea, deal? What's th' news on your end?" He jabbed his fork into his salad and ate it down. Baby spinach in Itallian dressing. He was making himself finish before he moved on to the natto. |

Charles swallowed his mouthful of dumplings and hot sauce. His eyes widened as Naoya almost climbed out of bed. Stupid. He shouldn't let people see his episodes like that. Damn it. Still hurting people by accident. "Don't hurt yourself because of me! I'm just still a bit bruised up! Ha ha!" said the boy, with a little strain in his voice. "And don't worry about getting a handle on shit. You went nuts and went into a coma. You don't have to remember right now, man. I sure as hell didn't!" He laughed a bit, unconsciously darting his left hand to his stomach. He could still feel the little indents and gaps from the knife all those years ago. He returned to the boy's query, taking his hand off his gut. Now wasn't the time to reminisce. "Shit on my end? I'm doing good. I can walk, talk, and eat solids, so I'm good. I dunno how Chika and Kumori are, but we got out sorta fine, I think." Charles stole a leaf of the boy's salad and chewed it. "Jeez. You got better food than I did, man. That's some tasty dressin'." |

Naoya nodded. He didn't reply to the list of Charlie's capabilities -- the talk one stuck in his mind, but he wasn't about to make an issue of it. "It, uh, it is. Certainly." He took another bite of his salad, and decided that he had had enough. He offered the bowl over to Charlie, raising an eyebrow. He'd eaten two of these thus far, and just wasn't feeling spinach anymore. Besides, the fried tofu was looking rather inviting. He chewed the bite thoroughly, thinking. "So y' haven't, y'know, heard from either o' them? Damn. I, uh, I fear that I may have...y'know...acted a goddamn fool, myself." |

"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"
|
"Yo! I'm not late t' the homecomin' party, am I? A little bird told me everyone's favorite metalworker man flew in from dreamland this mornin'~" The obnoxious female voice, thick as oatmeal with not-quite-Kansai accent, was plenty distinctive enough to announce who had arrived at the door before either of the two boys looked up to see. Framed in the doorway was a short girl with boyish green hair and equally boyish clothing, hands stuffed in her pockets and head tilted to one side, giving Naoya a somewhat crooked grin that betrayed just a hint of worry. The girl stepped into the room, offering Charles a nod of greeting as she withdrew her hands from her pockets. "Figured I'd see ya here, Chuck," she said in a jovial voice. Looking to Naoya, she let her grin fade, just slightly, into a more concerned smile. "...How're ya holdin' up, Naoya?" |

Charles started digging into the salad the instant Naoya tossed it over. It was good. It washed down the grease from the dumplings no problem. Along with any shitty feelings rising out of his gut but this wasn't about him this was about the boy on a hospital bed and it was time to stop thinking and just start talking instead. Stupid. "They've been alright. We were all pretty worn down after, but healin' took most of the edges off. I think we're good." When Kyo came in, Charles tossed the empty salad bowl at Kyo. "Think fast motherfucker!" Charles giggled a bit. "And I hardly count as a little bird. I'm the biggest bird there is! I'm the fuckin' entire Sesame Street, man!" Naoya gave Charlie a blank look. He was hiding something. Learning to read him had taken a long time, and Naoya wasn't perfect at it, yet, but something was tearing the other boy apart, and it was obvious. He needed to-- Shit he was tired and sore. Kyo burst in very shortly, and Charlie and she immediately got to bantering. "I...hell. I, uh, am better than I was. But I've been a sh...a helluva lot better'n this, um, many, many times in the past. Th' whole thing's a bit of a blur, t' tell th' complete truth. Fear I must'a acted a goddamn fool. Figure I did. Can't recall more'n a snatch here an' there." Kyo was obviously worried, too. Most likely, she had other issues to deal with in that intervening period -- she looked very tired. Probably losing sleep over something: what business had she gotten embroiled in, now? What all had happened while he'd been out? Two weeks was a long time -- Nagashima seemed to have a major crisis every day and a half, and a new supervillain every week. So far as he knew, he'd missed a half-dozen ascensions and three dozen deaths. He had to get back on Bedlam soon, see what had been happening. He had left his phone with Nakadachi-san, the last time he had checked. He needed to get that situation figured out. He shook his head. "So...uh...don't...don't worry too much about me. I gotta, y'know, um, digest this shit a bit. What's been happening? I feel like I've been outta commission f'r a really l...really damn long time." |
