After a while, Subaru went to open the door for them before they entered the dining room. Kinzaki went to her seat while the butler stood beside her.

"Why don't you have a seat as well, Serizawa-san?" Kinzaki told the boy, gesturing to one seat which was opposite her.

Aleph followed Subaru and Kinzaki into the dining room. Guess there was nothing on his face.

Aleph took the seat opposite Kinzaki and waited patiently for food eating to commence.

After a while, the maids came to serve them tea. One of them poured the tea for them while the other placed plates of cookies on the table.

"Assam tea," Kinzaki said after taking a sip of her tea. "Perfect for an evening drink," she closed her eyes as she savored the aroma of the tea. "What do you think, Serizawa-san?" she asked the boy.

Aleph took a bite of one of the cookies before Kinzaki spoke again. Assam tea. Aleph sniffed the cup. "It smells nice." Aleph said before taking a sip of the tea. "Tastes nice too."

Kinzaki gave Aleph a pleasant smile. "I'm glad you say that, Serizawa-san."

Then, with a clink, she placed her cup of tea onto the saucer before she ran her slender fingers through her blonde hair.

"So... what lesson have you learned today?" she asked.

Aleph continued to eat the cookies and drink tea before Kinzaki spoke once more.

"Uhhh..." Aleph said. "For one thing, don't do anything half-assed."

Kinzaki nodded. "Yes, that too, but there's something more important than that," she said, tapping her finger on the table. "First, do not try to appeal to pity. You're trying to guilt-trip everyone by telling them your past," she closed her eyes. "It may work, if we're living in an idealistic, cartoon-like world, and yet..." she reopened her blue eyes, looking straight at Aleph. "...we're in reality, no matter how much you deny it. Don't you dare thinking 'this is Nagashima'..."

She took her teacup and took another sip of her tea. "Do you believe that you're the only one who had lost a precious one?" she asked. "I've seen a lot of people who had lost many things. Even Subaru-kun," she glanced at her butler. "...his mother died after giving birth to him. Isoroku-san's parents were brutally murdered right in front of her eyes, and thanks to her photographic memory, she would not be able to forget it for the rest of her life. Shizuka-san's mother was killed in the ruins and her body was buried somewhere near the area..."

She put her teacup back onto the saucer. "Simply put, most people had it hard. But they never used their hardship to gain pity from others," she told Aleph. "If anything, it will do nothing but leave people in disgust. Instead of trying to gain other people's pity, maybe you should get involved in the lives of others..." she smiled at Aleph. "Be emphatic, be helpful, try to listen to other people's problems and try to act on it instead of just thinking about yourself. The world is never about you alone, it's about everyone. We live to complement one another."

Kinzaki tilted her head. "Avoiding others will do nothing but to make us lonelier."

Aleph listened to Kinzaki as she spoke, wincing and frowning as she talked about his Bedlam post and how tried to 'guilt-trip' everyone. Aleph didn't expect people to have pity for him. He even said it out and out in his post.

I swear, it's like people don't even bother to fucking read. If they read the whole thing through and through, then maybe they wouldn't get so pissy. Maybe even keep their damn mouths shut about the whole 'guilt-tripping' thing.

As Kinzaki went on, she mentioned about Aleph thinking about the way Nagashima was. Did he ever say that in his Bedlam posts? Oh, well.

Kinzaki even got to the parts that Aleph didn't know about people, like Subaru and Isoroku. Aleph didn't feel as shitty when Shizuka was mentioned, seeing as he already knew about what happened with Shizuka, though vaguely. Maybe he should ask her about that when they were alone tonight.

Regardless, Aleph felt like shit as he listened to the first two stories. How could a mother die from giving birth to her child? Aleph's mother managed to endure three childbirths over the course of several years, with Yuki being the last child she bore a year before the tragedy. Not only did Rika Serizawa used to be incredibly beautiful, she also used to be remarkably resilient. Almost nothing on Earth could kill her, let alone hurt her.

And yet she got killed by her own fucking car. What an irony.

Aleph continued to listen on as Kinzaki finished her lecture. She lectured Aleph on being helpful and emphatic. And how appealing to pity and 'playing the hearts strings' always fails.

When she finished, Aleph had many thoughts in his mind that he wanted to voice out. But how to say them? He started with the most serious thoughts and went to work his way down to the more mundane ones.

"Well, I didn't know that about Subaru-san, or Isoroku-san...or anyone, really." Aleph said. "If people had hardships, then why do they always look so happy and cheerful instead of looking....dead? When I came to Nagashima, everyone else's lives seemed interesting and fun and most of all, just perfect compared to mine. They all seemed to have it easy. Especially you. You're the daughter of the CEO of an entire corporation. Anyone would kill to have a life like yours."

Then, onto the part about Aleph's concept of thought, flawed as it was. "Why would I think that? I'd never think that." Aleph said. "I only thought if this was reality, then how come we have things that are supposedly....not reality-ish? Nothing ever made sense to me here."

Next, the part about appealing to pity and playing the hearts strings. "I thought that was you could make friends. You gain both their trust and their pity. And their sympathy as well." Aleph said. "But I guess I was wrong. I guess there's no such thing as 'pity'."

Finally, the part about avoiding others. "I don't know about that, either." Aleph said. "Back then, I got used to being alone and shutting myself away from society. But now, for some reason that I can't explain, I don't want to be alone."

Kinzaki sighed. "In a way, you can use people's pity on you, provided that you pity them back," she said. "That's a rather bad way to say it, but it may work in your case. If you want to gain people's trust, you need to understand others too. You cannot think about yourself alone..." then, she got up from her seat.

"Consider this as another lesson for you. I don't know whether it's going to work on your or not, but I hope you may understand what I was trying to tell you. You want others to trust you, you need a reason for people to trust you. Words can do nothing..." she said before she went towards the door.

"And about us not showing our hardship..." Kinzaki smiled as she turned back, conjuring her mask. "That's the true definition of 'mask'..." she said, putting the mask on her face. "You hide your hardship to others by wearing your mask. You don't show your miserable side to others, instead you show an ideal form of yourself, your Persona, your true self. Next time, stop randomly crying if things don't go your way..." she said before she looked at Subaru. "It may help you to make people take you seriously."

"I shall be going now. I'll be leaving Serizawa-san to you, Subaru-kun," Kinzaki said before she went out. Subaru just nodded.

"Just tell me if you need something, Serizawa-san," Subaru told Aleph.

Aleph watched Kinzaki as she gave her last two cents and left. Now all that was left was himself and Subaru. Aleph sat silently still as he thought about what the heiress said about masks. He held his hands in his lap and conjured his own mask. Persona. What he once thought was just magic and fighting, was now more than that.

It was a way to hide oneself from the world. Hiding one's miserable side, and replacing it with their ideal self. The true self.

Subaru spoke to Aleph, pulling the spiky-haired boy out of his reverie. Aleph looked at Subaru as he now began to feel a great deal of pity for the butler man. He seemed tougher than he let on when Aleph met him.

"Oh. No. I'll be fine. Thank you." Aleph said, fidgeting in his seat. "Though, I just want to say that I'm sorry about what Kinzaki-san told me about your mother..."
