"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"
As Kumiko recited her number, Kyo could tell that Takeo was making an effort to remember it... but she still pulled out her phone and entered it into her own contacts list, anyway. Just in case. Masumi made a motion as if to do the same, but Kyo was quite simply faster on the draw, so she didn't bother. Takeo recited the number a second time aloud, and then a second time for good measure, doing his best to commit it to memory.

"I think I have it," he said. "I appreciate this. I'd give you my number but... well, I kind of need a phone with buttons now." He said this sheepishly. Not even being able to work his own cell phone's touchscreen on the night he'd been attacked still stung at him in a weird way.

"There exist phones for blind people. The one I have here is one of those, in fact." Kumiko replied, showing the phone to the rest of the room - it was an odd contraption without a screen and with big buttons. The blind girl hit a button, and a small voice clip was heard - it was her voice, saying "Dad". "If you'll excuse me..." she apologized as she hit another button.

After a short conversation with her father, she put the phone away. "He should be there in a couple of minutes." For an instant, she looked like she was concentrating - after that, she gave a smile. "Masumi-san, your Persona feels... particular. Reassuring in a strange way, too."

Takeo nodded slightly, unseen by Kumiko, not altogether surprised by the existence of phones especially for blind people. He didn't doubt he might have been able to handle a regular button-phone, though, as long as there was actual tactile feedback involved. He listened absently as Kumiko spoke with her father, taking in and registering every word simply because there was no other major input coming in to start with.

When she was done, and immediately commented on Masumi's Persona, Takeo blinked. Oh, so Kumiko was a scanner...

Masumi blushed a bit at being called out and tugged at the place where her shawl would have been if she weren't in a janitor's uniform at the moment. "Oh, you noticed?" she said sheepishly. "Pharos isn't a creature or person like other Personas. It's actually a landmark. A lighthouse to be precise, the Pharos Lighthouse of Alexandria... I'm a sensor type, like you are, apparently, but I've been trying to resist just going around looking into peoples' souls at random lately... you know."

Kyo snorted back a laugh. Masumi poked her tongue out at the teen.

"Well, trying and sometimes failing," admitted the fortune teller, folding her hands in front of her knees. "Is it the same for you...?"

Kumiko carefully stood up from her chair, feeling the floor in front of her with her cane. She gave a quick nod, and her lips stretched into a smile. "Mine is Tiresias, a blind seer from Greek mythology. He dispensed his wise advices and his predictions to seven generations of Thebeans. He traded his eyes for another sense..." she explained. Masumi's comment about not looking into other peoples' souls was followed by a few instants of silence from the blind girl.

"Hmmm... Well, I must admit that the tentation to use this new sixth sense of mine at leisure has been strong since I've had it. I've given the matter some thought. Is it wrong for me to activate it and peer into the very minds of those around me ?" she started, turning her head slightly towards Masumi. "That is, indeed, an interesting question. What I perceive is more of a... signature, really. I don't know how to accurately describe it, but I just get a very strong impression of the other person's psyche." Kumiko added.

"Sorry if I made you uncomfortable. It was impolite of me." the blind girl apologized.

"Oh, I don't mind. I'd be a hypocrite if I did," chuckled Masumi. "As for me, I... don't really get much of an 'impression.' The information comes to me almost as visually as if I were reading it off a Tarot card. I wish I could say I had that sort of insight when I scan people..."

She paused, and then blushed a bit.

"A-although then I suppose it would be even more invasive than it already is, huh?" she asked rhetorically, brushing a hand through her hair.

"An impression of the other person's psyche," Takeo echoed thoughtfully. "What sort of impression do you get from mine, then? If you don't mind me asking?"

Kyo glanced at Takeo quizzically, and scratched at her nose. "Why d'ya ask, dude?" she said. "Ain't like she can see things up there you can't, right?"

"That's not necessarily true..." Takeo said in a neutral voice. I can't figure for the life of me why my Persona won't answer me or come out when I try to call it, for example. I know it's still there, but... why the hell isn't it doing anything?

Kumiko silently activated her scanning powers once more, focusing on the direction Takeo's voice had come from. Surely enough, she soon perceived another presence, one that overlapped Takeo's own. Her neutral state of mind made the sensations she soon felt all the clearer.

"Hmmm... how can I put this...?" she said to herself, deep in her own thoughts. "Your other self... it is ambiguous. It doesn't feel precisely evil in nature, but it is hiding something... Something important, even. Your relationship isn't as good as it could be, is it ?" the blind girl asked with a genuinely interested tone.

Takeo opened his mouth, closed it again, and then ducked his head. "My Persona almost always criticizes me or puts me down in some way, on the occasions when it actually talks," he said. "The only time it ever gave me control problems is--personal. But, right now... I can't summon it, and it won't answer me when I try to talk with it."

Kyo blinked, and then looked to Masumi. "Seriously? Wait, can that even happen?"

Masumi looked clueless, and didn't respond. Takeo shrugged. "Apparently," he said in a noncommittal voice. "It feels like there's a block there, or something. I don't know."

"Well... I hope you can mend your relationship with your Persona. In the end, it might mean that you'll have to solve a problem you have with yourself." Kumiko said, giving another nod. "Perhaps you'll find the solution to this problem while working on adapting to your blindness, Takeo-san. I certainly hope so."

"...Could you lead me back to the entry, Kyo-san ?" she asked politely, holding her hand up.

"Sure thing," Kyo said, standing up and walking over to Kumiko. She took the girl's hand in hers; it was a firm grip, more the kind one takes when holding the hand of a friend rather than playing escort for someone. Kyo looked over at Takeo, and grinned pointlessly in an encouraging way. "And hey, dude, if your Persona's puttin' ya down, maybe it's 'cause you're puttin' yourself down. Y'ain't whatever it says, or whatever bad ya think. And if ya can't believe it yourself, believe it 'cause we believe it, y'know?"

Talk about hypocritical, Kyo thought. Masumi, however, nodded. The smile on her face was audible in her voice.

"That's right, we believe in you, so believe in us! And by extension, in yourself!" said the fortune-teller happily. "I mean, it's kind of insulting if you don't, are you calling us liars?"

Takeo chuckled a bit, and shook his head. "Heh, 'believe in the me that believes in you,' huh? That's original," he said. "I appreciate it, though. Thank you for the help, Kumiko-san. And stay safe."

The moment Kumiko made a move to leave, Kyo would lead her. She was already in position; it was just a matter of giving Kyo some sign that she could move without wrong-footing Kumiko.
