With a deep inhale, and then an equally deep exhale, Claire followed the rest of the group into the hospital room, only to stop dead in her tracks the instant she took note of the bandages. Much like Tsubaki, her own reaction could be summed up as worry, sadness, and a bit of rage. However, the verbal reaction she gave was one that rivaled the likes of "oh okay" in terms of a sheer, underwhelming nature.

"What..."

It wasn't even a question, just a statement. A statement delivered in what was possibly the flattest tone possible, if only due to her previous "preparations." Though, the emotion behind it certainly welled up, and flared. The question was, which would come out first? The sadness, the anger, or the worry? Maybe all three would force their way through that wall of hers, and tear it down entirely.

Claire made an attempt to further compose herself for the almost inevitable bad news, but when she moved to ask what was wrong, all she could manage was the same response she'd given to Takeo's appearance. In the exact same, flat monotone, a monotone with the aforementioned underlying tones of almost motherly concern,

"W-What......"

All in all, she was so worked up that the only ones in the room could've very well been Tsubaki, Takeo, and herself at that very moment. If only because focusing on herself, the victim of whatever heinous crime or accident had happened, and the one person that was most likely to snap took up most of her now minimal level of focus.

"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"
The voices that met Takeo's ears were all the expected ones, although he did feel a need to express surprise at one of them. "Benkei, I didn't expect you to be here..." he said, although instead of looking in the direction of that voice, or Iemoto's, or even Claire's--whom Takeo thought he understood at least well enough not to take the monotone reaction in a bad way--the man's face unmistakable turned most directly toward the quietest voice.

The voice of his girlfriend.

"Tsubaki, can you sit over here? With me?" he asked in a quiet voice. "Doctor, if you and any other staff in the room could leave, I'd--like to speak with these four in private, please."

He kept his voice remarkably steady for someone about to impart the news to his best friend, teacher, and girlfriend that he had been rendered permanently blind. He thought so, anyway.

Where they were, and his eyes. It didn't take long for Benkei to figure out what must have happened. Actually realizing just what it meant would take longer.

"Takeo…yeah. I volunteer here sometimes r-remember? I know I told you like…once or twice." Wasn't important then. His voice was cracking a bit, and his shoulders slumped. He suddenly felt a physical sense of sickness well up from deep in his stomach. He didn't know if was ever going to go away.

"Of course, Wakahisa-san." The doctor caught himself when he realized he was nodding to the request, then he pointed for the sake of the others. "If you need anything? Press that button to get someone here right away, alright?" With no further need to stay, he left, closing the door behind him.

Oh my God, I LEFT THE STOVE ON AT HOME!

Tsubaki felt like there was a hand wrapped around her throat. She sat down breathlessly, trembling in dread and horror as she stared helplessly at Takeo's bandages. "Oh my God....Ta-Takeo-kun....wh...what happened...?"

Iemoto pinched the bridge of his nose. Geez, looked like Tsubaki wasn't the only one to watch out for: that pink-haired woman - if Iemoto remembered her name correctly, she was called Claire Kesshou - seemed to be on edge, too. Well, he'd promised to make sure that things wouldn't go awry, and besides, Benkei could probably help to deal with that - though he looked a bit shaken, too.

Tsubaki was trembling. Iemoto put a hand meant to be reassuring on the girl's shoulder, hoping that it would help her calm down - it would also make the casting of a Sukunda or a Makajam that much easier, too.

The buildup of the situation was something that the pink haired woman simply couldn't stand. Not only was it nearly impossible to brace herself for the news to come now that she had seen Takeo's state and the likelihood of it being something terrible, but it was starting to get to the point where things like fainting or things like that could happen. The reasoning behind it was not the boy's predicament, but rather the stress of a job coupled with the stress of maintaining several relationships with a surrogate family, exploring the ruins, and things of that nature.

All in all, it felt as though it was about to culminate in something terrible, the omen was namely in the fact that she was certain she was not the only one that could hear her heart as it beat loudly in defiance, as if stating that all that was about to occur was merely a nightmare.

Letting out a deep exhale, the woman began to take several deep breaths, then exhale, and so on in a feeble attempt to relax herself, just as the doctor left, she did the final one, and waited for it all to happen. Hopefully it would be akin to ripping off a bandage, painful for a moment but nothing more.

All in all, Claire could not begin to think about how Tsubaki would feel. After all, there was a difference between that sort of motherly love she possessed, and the actual love the girl felt.

Takeo could hear Claire's breathing, if not her heart. Takeo's expression became pained; a small burning jolt of pain lit up the upper areas of his face beneath the bandages as his eyebrows attempted their usual reactions and failed to do so--come to think of it, did Takeo even have eyebrows anymore? Probably not, he thought: most likely they had burned off. It felt strange to think of something like that in such clinical terms, but it was hard to care about eyebrows when Tsubaki and Claire were both right there and both obviously not taking his condition well at all... before he'd even dropped the real bomb on them.

Takeo heard Tsubaki sit down near the bed--thought he could feel the vibrations of her movement as she did, even. His hands reached out blindly in the general direction of her own hands, or where he guessed they might be. Seeking to hold them steady, perhaps, as if that might make it easier for her to take what he was about to tell her.

Only when he heard the door shut did Takeo speak at all.

"Tsubaki, please stay calm for me, okay?" he said softly. "I'm still here. It's going to be different, but I'm still here, alright?"

His face was angled slightly away from hers; he hadn't been able to accurately judge the direction the noised had come from. It was something Tsubaki would have to get used to in the days and weeks to follow.

"I... was attacked, while I was on my way back from the ruins," Takeo said as steadily as he could. "There were two of them, and they caught me while my guard was down. They--"

Takeo gulped.

"--they used... acid on my face. On my eyes. It's... not something that healing magic can fix. It can fix the burns. I'm pretty sure it can fix the burns, but--but I'm not going to be able to get my eyesight back."

He wanted to say more, downplay it or ease the impact somehow, perhaps. But once he'd laid it out there, anything he might have followed up with seemed just plain pathetic, really.

Acid… they applied acid to his eyes. It was bad as he'd feared, and the end result was blindness. Permanent and irrevocable. Their worst fears were confirmed.

He didn't feel anything. Beyond a stomach-curdling sensation. And reluctant, bitter acceptance at what is beyond his power to change. He hated the situation. Absolutely loathed it. he could say the same for the people who'd did this ton Takeo, too. That didn't mean he'd lose his mind in rage and grief. Not that he'd go flying off right then and there to find the people responsible and punish them.

His attention turned to Tsubaki, and he knew there was a tension here and it was centralized around her. If half of what he heard about her is true, then everything he knew he wouldn't do, she could easily be pushed to.

"Tsubaki, stay calm." It sounded empty to his ears. But that was the tone they needed to set. Someone had to say it first. and helping to keep her from losing it was something to focus on other than the ugly truth of the situation before him.

"...they....they....they did WHAT?!" Tsubaki's grip tightened painfully around Takeo's hand.

Wind began blowing through the room as a look of raw, horrifying fury formed on Tsubaki's face. "Who did this?" hissed Tsubaki. Everyone and anyone responsible for this was going to pay. They were all going to bleed, cry, suffer, and die. "Who knew? TELL ME!" Tears of grief and anger rolled down her face as she clenched her fist until her fingernails drew blood.

And here was the return of the old Tsubaki: the vindictive, spiteful, violent needy girl. Ready to kill.

Oh, damn - surprising exactly no one, Tsubaki was starting to lose her cool. No, wait: she wasn't starting to lose her cool, she'd gone straight to the "murderous rage" stage of grief without even having to warm up first. Iemoto was pretty much the calmer person in the room - he'd already had a little bit of time to take the news of Takeo's blindness in stride and accept them, contrary to Tsubaki and Claire. The truth was terrible, the truth was ugly - and there was nothing he could do to change it.

Keeping his hand on Tsubaki's shoulder, he spoke, keeping his voice even and calm. "Calm down. Giving in to anger won't do anybody any good." he said, mentally preparing himself to cast a Makajam or a Sukunda if the situation became worse than it already was - the gusts of wind surely didn't come from an open window, and if Tsubaki hadn't been Takeo's girlfriend, the spells would have already been cast.

He was an Archangel: that meant being firm when the situation called for it.
