"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"
This thread is a continuation of Darkness, Impermeable.

---

All Takeo Wakahisa knew was darkness, being guided along, placed on a stretcher. The vibration and bumping and hum of an ambulance engine. Eventually, the faceless noise that Takeo's brain registered as people set to work, but it was all a jumble, all of it. The man may as well have been blindfolded and stuffed in a trunk, driven off to some cabin in the woods as a ransom hostage for all the sense his brain could make of the sounds, smells, feelings. All throughout it, he could only dully, peripherally acknowledge that this would very likely be his entire world now: the darkness and what perception his remaining four senses could provide.

What he wouldn't have given for one of those fancy analysis Personas, so he could at least tell where people were in relation to him. But even this idle pipe dream was a secondary concern.

Tsubaki.

His own trouble was something he couldn't do anything about, but Tsubaki, Tsubaki was going to lose her head. Takeo simply knew this: he'd never seen her freak out, not once, but from what little snippets he'd heard of her past from both her and from Kyo, what he knew of her home situation before she'd moved in with him--

--she was going to lose it. He knew it. Iemoto would be here, hopefully he would be able to keep her in check if it became too much for her powers, but Takeo was taking no chances. He had requested that the doctors not tell her or any of the others anything about his condition until he told them himself. In private. With not a single doctor or nurse in attendance, and with the door firmly closed.

Keeping Tsubaki's powers secret, keeping any innocents from being harmed, preventing Tsubaki from doing anything she would regret later: these were the important, immediate things. His blindness--now all but officially confirmed by the doctor, though they wished to hold him here for observation while he recovered in case they had overstated or understated the severity of it, or in case of further complications--would still be there later. He had all the time in the world to deal with that.

For now, his primary concern was the woman he'd fallen in love with, and how this would affect her.

Takeo could feel bandage wrappings over his upper face, gauze against his burned eyes and the destroyed flesh around them. He was in a bed, he knew the feeling of a bed well enough... the doctor had just left the room, shutting the door with a sliding and clicking.

The doctor was going to bring in his visitors now. Tsubaki, no doubt, would be among them; most likely Claire Kesshou as well. He had to think carefully about how he was going to handle this...

[OOC: Text in white is NPC Dialogue]

There wasn't much that could be done. At least not with modern medical science. It didn't sit well at all with the tall, lean doctor with dark hair and small, well-trimmed side-burns. He wore slacks, a white button up and a dark green striped tie, with a lab coat over that.

"Good evening, my name's Doctor Kobayashi. I don't know how to put this, but the patient himself has requested to tell you personally of what happened. It's a bit unusual but…"

He trailed off and left it at that. He'd lead Tsubaki, Iemoto, and if she could have made it, Claire to where Takeo was resting at the time. Though, as Dr. Kobayashi had agreed upon, he spoke nothing of the nature of his injury, the general idea of what happened could have been inferred when they entered a wing of the hospital with bandaged people, strictly temperature controlled, with more severe cases having pure oxygen delivered to them from breathing masks.

"Excuse me! Excuse me! Doctor Kobayashi! Is it true the patient you're going to see is Takeo Wakahisa? Did I hear that he was admitted earlier this evening? Is that correct?" Benkei had followed news of this one bit of everyday goings-on in the hospital, and had come from where he ususally worked to there as soon as he could. He sounded worried, appropriately enough because he considered Takeo one of his closest friends. after all.

"Actually yeah, it is. Watanabe-san, this is someone you know personally? You can come with if it directly concerns you."

Thjey would have been close enough to the door to Takeo's room that he should have been able to overhear their voices.

Oh my God, I LEFT THE STOVE ON AT HOME!

Tsubaki could barely breathe. She'd been worried sick since she got the text message. Was Takeo alright? What had happened? Tsubaki felt like she was going to double over and throw up the meal she'd had with Kyo just from sheer anxiety. She closed her eyes, not even looking to see the condition of the other patients, not getting a single hint at how bad this could be. She was clenching her fists tight as she forced herself to take deep, slow breaths.

J-Just calm down.... the girl thought. It's probably just a broken bone or something...it can't be that bad...

She had no idea how wrong she was.

From the looks of it, Takeo's girlfriend - her name was Tsubaki, if Iemoto's memory was better than the average goldfish's - was on the verge of a mental meltdown. She was the very picture of agonizing worry - Takeo hadn't been lying when he'd implied that she'd need to be kept in check when she'd learn about her boyfriend's injuries.

He followed at her side, staying silent. He'd made clear that he was the one who'd helped the young man, less than a hour ago - he hadn't precisely decided how he was going to help the girl take the blow, though. Well, if worse came to worse...

He saw Benkei, and waved slightly in greeting. "Oh, hi, dude. Didn't know you worked at the hospital." he said, waiting for the doctor to lead them to the patient.

He took a deep breath, preparing himself.

It was going to be a bad day, at least, that was the feeling Claire had when she'd more or less forced herself out of bed in the morning. Such a feeling was realized when she had gotten the message regarding Takeo, and ran as fast as she could to the hospital. Upon arrival, she took note of the others there. Of course there was Tsubaki, someone she didn't recognize, and finally Benkei.

As opposed to listening to listening to the doctor or paying attention to the others, the woman found her eyes wandering from room to room, as if such a thing would give her a hint as to the present situation Takeo found himself in. All in all, the results were less than favorable, considering the state some of the patients were in. Yet, the woman swallowed her worry, and tried to return to the emotionless state she had been in upon arriving to Nagashima, if only to mask the worry she'd felt.

In a few moments, however, she would learn that such an effort was a waste of time and energy.

Takeo could hear voices outside. The doctor's professional tones, followed by... Benkei Watanabe's voice. So, he was here, too. Takeo was both apprehensive and a little relieved. Benkei could help if things got out of hand... assuming he didn't take it hard, himself. But Takeo wasn't too worried about that. Benkei was a chill guy. He could deal. Tsubaki wasn't a chill person. She was a very troubled person, trying to keep herself on sanity's good side.

The man could do nothing but turn his head toward the voices, waiting for the sound of the door opening, for the sound of footsteps entering his room... for the inevitable cry when Tsubaki caught sight of the bandages on his face.

He could only thank the bandages for the amount of coverage they provided. Only the area immediately around his eyes had been burned, and from the sheer feeling of it--something Takeo wouldn't have been able to tell if he hadn't had so much time to focus on just that sense only--the burns would be quite ugly to look at. Best that they remain covered...

"Oh, yeah." Benkei said, given the circumstances he was more apprehensive than his usual easy-going self. "Volunteer three times a week, actually." He folded his arms and tried to remain calm. It could…it could have seemed worse than it really was, right? He gave a nod to everyone else present, it seemed to be a good amount of Takeo's close circle of friends were gathered.

"Now, if you're all ready?" The Doctor said, calmly as he opened the door. "You should be able to see him now" He entered the room first and announced. "Wakahisa-san? It's Doctor Kobyashi, you have some visitors." He then directed the next statement to the others and stepped aside for them. "Please, come in, all of you."

Tsubaki's heart sunk somewhere down to her stomach when she saw the bandages. "Wh-what...what happened?"

This couldn't be happening. What was even going on? Why would Takeo need those bandages on his face? He was going to recover, right? Right?

Tsubaki looked like she was about to cry. Or kill someone. Both courses of action were equally likely.

Iemoto simply nodded his head, stepping into the room behind Tsubaki as the doctor allowed them to. He didn't take his eyes off the teenager for a single second - Benkei wasn't gonna go crazy any time soon, after all. She hadn't done anything yet, but that didn't mean that Iemoto shouldn't have stood on his toes - if worst came to worst.

"Yo, Takeo." he greeted - not that he really needed to, but it would at least inform the young man of his presence.
