Edward sighed as he looked at the scenery around him. "I used to be a demon of vengeance, wanting retribution for the murder of my father..." he spoke calmly. "I was blind at that time. I wanted revenge above all else..." he shook his head. "But now... my mind is cleared, and I can now see the truth..." Slowly, the illusory battlefield was replaced by something else. Instead of a bloody battlefield, both Masumi and Edward would find themselves in the middle of a lake. The strange thing was that both of them would be standing on the water. The scenery was so peaceful compared to the battlefield, with the night sky. The lake reflected the full moon. "...I see that my life isn't always about vengeance..." Edward spoke softly. "I've seen many things... sad things, happy things..." a very serene smile was seen on Edward's face. "I'm no longer a demon of vengeance. I'm no longer a Mad Dog..." Slowly, Mordred vanished, dissipating into golden particles. "I'm..." Edward placed his hand on his chest. "...a man." And the thing that replaced Mordred's place was something else. It resembled Mordred, with brighter, whiter armor. The lances were replaced by sword and shield, and the black knight was no more. The spear that pierced through the chest had also vanished. "Goodbye, Mordred..." Edward bid Mordred a farewell before he looked at the white knight floating above him. "And hello..." The white knight nodded, acknowledging the man's greeting. "I am the sword that vanquishes evil. I am the shield that protects the innocent. I am a champion of justice, defender of the weak, nightmare of the wicked. I am reborn from the soul of an avenger, and now... both of us... are avengers no more..." The white knight descended and kneeled in front of Edward. "I am Lancelot, and I shall be your blade, Edward Keller..." "Thank you..." Edward smiled. "Please become my blade, and my shield, Lancelot..." |

Kyo Charinko walked up to the door just in time to catch the words: "...no longer a demon of vengeance..." She stopped, blinking, scratching her head. Oh, right. Edward was Shiki's friend too, of course he'd come to check in on--holy shit where did the hospital go?! So she was more or less inside the illusion with them for the last few moments of it, and she heard his words from inside. She understood, then, just what she'd walked in on, and boy oh boy was it a kick in the head. --- Masumi stared in wonder at the white knight, wonder and awe. "Ascension," she whispered under her breath, inaudibly. She knew the basics of what that was; she'd spoken with Toru about it, seen Naoya Imoto's Moksa interviews, it signified a significant psychological shift on the part of the Persona-user. To shift from Black Knight to White Knight... The woman felt tears building in her eyes. "Oh..." she said, closing her eyes as a smile forced its way onto her face. "Then I guess I have nothing to worry about then." For the first time since she'd known Edward, she was happy for him--well and truly happy for him. He had found his answer... something to live for with what little life he had left. The only tragedy was that it had taken something like this for him to find it. |

"So..." Edward looked at Masumi. "You don't have to worry anymore, Masumi. This is my last task... with so little time I have..." he closed his eyes. He looked at Lancelot, giving the white knight a nod before the white knight disappeared. He dismissed the knight, and the scenery once again returned back to normal. Then, he frowned. "Are you crying?" he asked. And he hadn't noticed that Kyo was outside. |

"Just happy, I guess. Or relieved," she said, lightly wiping one eye with the thumb of her left hand. "I'm happy you... understand that, now." And then, the woman frowned. "So... what next?" As she said it, she allowed her analysis sense to extend outward, and felt a familiar twinge, very close by. She tilted her head to the side, almost imperceptibly. Morrigan, Devil Arcana... Charinko-san? Kyo leaned back against the wall beside the door and out of sight, a hand over her mouth. There was a confused whirlwind of thought and emotion swirling around somewhere in the vicinity of her stomach. On the one hand--Edward had ascended. On the other... with so little time I have... Did that mean what--no. No no no no. No, no, no no no. That couldn't mean what it sounded like, right? |

"Well, what's next? I guess I'll d-" he stopped when he looked at the door. He felt like someone was there. "Who's there?" he asked. He didn't know who's the one outside. |

Kyo flinched. She gritted her teeth, mind racing, trying to think of an excuse... when Masumi spoke up, and pretty much killed any chance of a cover story. "It's Charinko-san. I didn't notice her approach because I was so focused on you..." The tone was uncertain, apologetic, as though it was her fault the conversation had been eavesdropped on. Kyo took a step away from the wall, and toward the door, but didn't immediately enter--Edward's words were still playing over and over inside her head. With so little time I have... No. No, that couldn't be, it couldn't be. |

Edward frowned before he sighed. Perhaps she already knew about the explosion. "Girl, what are you doing out there? Come in," he said to Kyo who was outside the room. He was unaware of Kyo's inner conflict as he said that. |

"Ah--heeeeey, Edward~" And Kyo popped into the doorway, smiling nervously and rubbing at the back of her head. "I just heard about the bombin' and well, Shiki's been a cool friend, y'know? So I wanted t'see how she was doin'..." She stepped into the room, averting her eyes slightly from the ascended hitman (couldn't be no that's not fair not possible no stupid sickness is taking my friend away from me can't happened won't happen) which wasn't terribly hard because just then she caught sight of Shiki's face. "Oh God..." she moaned, rushing toward the bed. "Man, what happened, anyway? Why would someone put a bomb in a fuckin' kindergarten for?!" |

Edward looked at Kyo who approached the bed where Shiki was lying on. "Someone wanted me dead. That bastard put a bomb in the air-conditioner just to kill me," he sighed as he crossed his arms. "...It's my fault she turned out like this..." He had promised to himself that he would find the one responsible for this. He wouldn't allow such thing to happen again. In his final moment of life, he would stop that bastard from hurting any more innocents. |

"...Fuck, man," Kyo growled, leaning forward so that her hands were on the edge of the bed. They clenched into fists, lightly tugging at Shiki's bedsheets. "Same kinda bullshit that happened t' Aleks back in Russia. Some asswipe wants her outta the picture and don't care who else goes with her..." Kyo sighed. "At least no one died this time..." Masumi's head tilted to one side, and she frowned. "Eh? Aleks?" she asked. "Aleks who...?" "Oh, er--" Kyo blinked, wincing as she glanced toward Masumi. "...Alexis Kriemgund. She's a classmate o' mine from school. German girl. Heiress to this big-old company. She--uh--took a trip t' Russia and while she was doin' this foreign exchange thing, one o' the company's competitors tried t' assassinate her. Didn't end well." Kyo coughed into her fist, glancing at Edward, who probably knew the truth of who Kyo was talking about. |
