"For you? Sure! What do you need, Ito-san?"

"This is is Alan Casey! He's…Alan-san? is everything alright?"

She interrupted the introduction when she noticed he'd hesitated tying his shoe. Close enough to the room to overhear anything that was said inside. Her mind at once went right to the possibility of them discussing what was on Machi's chart.

Shou saw it, and Alan had not, and she'd gone though great effort to make sure he didn't but… with his reaction, now she was worrying as well. Was it really that bad? It was nothing serious about Machi, was it?

"Alan? Is everything alright?"

Meanwhile, Rin stood by. She smiled politely and waited for an opportunity for proper introductions.

The 'shadow' topic had effectively died. It was a good thing, though. Machi was absolutely sick of it. "...I'll try to take better care of it next time, and not get myself killed." No way in hell she'd stop riding a bike, though. She'd have to get a new one... Perhaps a model change?

"...Ookini, Shou-kun." Her mind nearly drowned in relief, and said shadow was silenced. Her greatest fear that day had been vanquished by the amount of overwhelming care her boyfriend was always so willing to display. "If you ever change your mind about it... I suppose adoption or surrogacy would be valid options..." She shook her head, though not wincing this time. Frankly? Her neck hurt less than her ribs and leg. "...I doubt I'm mentally capable of that, though..."

She sighed deeply once more, and nodded very faintly, letting him continue. "As you wish..." She had a bad feeling; however, she would make sure to be there for him every step of the way, like he had been for her. Her hand broke free from his grasp, shakily brushing against his cheek in a reassuring comfort.

Alan didn't answer Hanako for a moment...In fact he couldn't. Adoption...Surrogacy. So that's what was on the chart. there was something else..Mentally capable...He began to slowly tie his shoes. "Sorry, I am fine Hanako-san." He had to hear more...

Shou nodded. He knew she'd be more careful now at least. He wasn't sure what steps she'd take, but he trusted her to make them.

Shou really hadn't thought about adoption or surrogacy. Again, kids hadn't exactly been on his mind for awhile. Too busy surviving or working to really care about such things..."Its okay." He nodded. He wasn't planning on doing any of that. Especially since she wasn't "mentally capable"

He shivered slightly as he felt her hand suddenly reach his cheek. It had turned into her comforting him again...

Seriously man...You suck.

He bit his lip for a moment, gnawing on it slightly. How was he going to say this?

"So..there is kind of a lot to get through, but I will make this as short as I can...My name isn't really Shou Yoshida." His gaze traveled to the floor. "I more or less had to change it after what happened. I kept my first name, but..." He paused for a moment.

He couldn't believe he was going to say this.

"My real name is Shou Mizushima." He probably didn't need to say more than that. The boy whose father had been a high ranking member of a now decimated gang. The boy who had turned his own father in. The boy who had suddenly disappeared. The boy who was presumed dead.

There was so much more to say, but for now, he'd let her process this...and ask any questions.

Alan's eyes widened slightly at the boy's real name. He knew who that was...His story had been on the news. He couldn't believe it...After a moment, he finished tying his shoes, but stood near the door still. "Ahah I am sorry that took so long." He gave a small bow to the woman. "My name is Alan Casey. It is nice to meet you."

"Likewise, nice to meet you!" Rin answered with a bow. Hands together as she spoke with friendly tones.

"Alan-san is from England. You notice the accent? Just like you really liked on that drama the other day?" She teased her, and her mind was already onto other things. Just what was with Alan's reaction, just what was happening with Machi and Shou that would have him act that way?

"I-Ito-san! Really! That's enough!" The nurse had a blush when it was mentioned, and laughed it off. "I think he's a bit young for me, but how about you?"

Hanako's mind was elsewhere, after a few moments, Rin repeated.

"Ito-san? Hanako?"

"Hmm? Oh, um, it's nothing. I'm sorry! I just remembered something I need to ask Alan-san here"

One could also ask just how often Hanako was in the hospital that she had a good rapport with people who worked there daily. But that was probably a concern for another day.

Machi's eyes widened almost unnoticeably. That name... She had heard it somewhere before. But where, exactly...? Her mind couldn't quite put a finger on it. She couldn't bring herself to interrupt him then; obediently quiet, she ran her thumb against his skin, as if requesting him to go on, completely unaware of what was happening outside.

Alan kept his focus on the door, but managed to laugh when Hanako began to tease the nurse.

For a moment Shou simply stood there. He looked up when she said nothing. She wanted him to continue. He slowly nodded. "After what happened with my father, my family despised me..I'm pretty sure they wanted me dead...Well them and a good portion of the criminals in Japan." It wasn't even a joke. "So I disappeared. Eventually they just gave up looking for me and reported me dead." It was for the best really.

"For awhile it was pretty bad. In every sense of the word." He shook his head. Well here it comes. "I had to resort to stealing...and I found that it helped me in more than just survival. All the action and danger...It kind of helped me deal with things. Lesser of two evils ya know?" He didn't really have to say what the second evil was. "Eventually I robbed the wrong person...He gave me a choice. Work for him or die." He shook his head again. "He's the reason I'm in Nagashima in the first place. Though...I don't know what he wants..."

Finally he stopped. He kept his eyes away from hers too worried about what she was thinking.

Alan's eyes widened slightly as the truth poured from Shou. The boy was a criminal...Surly Machi would end things now. He was working for a guy that had threatened to kill him...It was too dangerous to stay with him...

Eventually he was drawn out of his thoughts by Hanako. "What did you need to ask me?" He tilted his head slightly.

"Oh, um…it can be later, you know? I'm sorry Tachibana-san, but can we talk another time?"

"Sure, I don't have a ton of time, so how's about we all get together when I'm on break?"

"That'll be awesome! Thank you! And sorry about this!"

The nurse waves, and returns to her work. Hanako's attention was focused on Alan. She frowned and her big, grey eyes were full of obvious concern.

"Alan. Seriously, what's the matter? It's something I should know about, right? Machi's not sick, or something, is she?"

Without his unique context of overhearing it, she just assumed the worst.

Silently, Machi took in every single word Shou had to say, with no judgement to cast upon him.

She immediately sympathized with his family situation. Much like him, she had been the target of severe hatred, albeit for slightly different reasons - her birth had caused the death of her mother, a beautiful and brilliant woman whom was still quite young. She was quite loved by her father and family, and had excellent health, so it was quite a shock; they ultimately blamed it all on the birth of the child.

After a little effort and a lot of wincing, she managed to sit up straight, so to listen to the rest of his story.

It was quite surprising, to say the least, when she found out the story didn't make her want to put him behind bars - she wanted to be an officer of the law, after all. Instead, she wanted to cradle him in her arms, and tell him everything would be alright. She could best describe it as an overwhelming need to protect her boyfriend from a world which had wronged him so greatly.

"I'd like to say I understand... but I really don't, do I...?" Her saddened gaze met his own once again. "...Ookini, for sharing your story with me." She made an attempt to pull Shou closer with her good hand. "I'm not sure if it's my place to do this, but... I have one request. Is it possible for you to stop stealing...?" Her lips formed a small smile, despite it all. "I can provide for us both. You don't have to worry about that again. Though, I understand if you prefer to still do it."

She managed to ignore the excruciating pain her own movements caused her to feel, wanting to be closer to the boy. "Kannin na, that you had to go through all of that... I'm here now though, okay? And if anything happens... it's my choice to be with you." She wasn't stupid, being quite aware of the possible consequences of being associated with a criminal whom had a bounty on his head, so to speak.

Alan's face visibly paled as he heard Machi speak. She was staying with him? Despite everything Shou had just told her? Was she insane? What in the hell was she thinking?

Butt out

Huh?

This is none of your business.

Alan was about to reply when Hanako suddenly asked him about Machi. So he had been being obvious. "It is about Yoshida-san." He shook his head. He wasn't about to tell her about what was on that chart. He suddenly lowered his voice. "Can I talk to you on Bedlam later? I am not we should speak about it here." It could get bad if someone overheard them speaking.

Shou let out a small sigh as Machi began to speak. He wasn't exactly sure what he was expecting, but he was glad she took it well. He easily let himself be pulled forward, but showed a bit of shock when she herself got up. "Hey, hey, don't strain yourself."

I can't believe you right now...She's worried about you...and SHE'S the one in the hospital...You...you just suck.

He had to admit, he felt guilty for making her worry like this. Every time she was going through a rough time it seemed like he ended up flipping the tables.

But at the same time, he was really happy to know she cared.

"Stop...Stealing?" He spoke it like it was a forbidden sentence. Could he really? He had used it as a release for so long. To distract him from life, from his own thoughts. Not to mention his family. He'd been sending them money for so long now he wasn't sure if they could even provide for themselves. He hadn't been able to check in awhile either....Plus his benefactor...well he could easily deal with that bastard and his threats...

"I can...try." He looked back up at her. His face betrayed worry, but a smile grew on his face as well. "There are a couple things I would have to do though." Check on his family, deal with his benefactor. And make sure it would be safe for Machi.

Finally his smile grew wider. "T-thank you Machi-chan. Thank you." He placed his hand on hers again. He would have hugged her if he wasn't so sure she'd end up hurt.

"Um…okay." She slowly nodded. She only had half the picture, going by the reactions of others. She shrugged and offered. "You know my SN there right? One word 'NohalfMeasures?'"

She walked up to Machi's room and knocked softly on the door. After she gave them a chance for privacy, she opened it a crack. "Machi-san? I'm really sorry. I've actually thinking I should get back home. I'll come visit again tomorrow, okay?"

Well yeah, that went without saying. Chika didn't even like her and she was going to visit her daily anyways, Machi was guaranteed to see her.
