"Hey you!"

It had taken her the better part of 45 minutes and she'd literally checked dozens of rooms to get here? But she found her! And apparently her name was 'Chika Nakadachi.' So as of then? She knew that about her, aside from the fact that she was probably from Osaka, and a victim of Hanako's clumsiness.

"Oh, here! I think you forgot these the other day, so the least I could do was make sure it got to you, right Chika-san?"

She handed over the books that Chika originally had. When they took her away, those were lost in the confusion, but not to Hanako!

"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"
Chika had been staring at the ceiling disconsolately, wondering where those books had disappeared to--the hospital staff hadn't known, her parents hadn't known. She had a few books on the bedstand but she'd read them already and attempting to re-read them hadn't been nearly enough to distract her from occasional fantasies about--what she could do to Shadows in the ruins.

Or about that writhing, dying man in the backstreets, the one she had killed with her own two hands in the most brutal and agonizing way she'd been capable of at the time.

When the girl who had for all intents and purposes put her here entered the room, Chika's eyebrows had knitted with irritation--and then flattened again when the unknown girl presented her with the very books she'd been missing. Oh. So she'd picked them up for her...

"...Thanks," Chika said, taking the books and looking down at them. These would help. These would definitely help. Chika was far too restless for someone who didn't currently have the use of her legs. It occurred to her to ask how this girl had known Chika's name, but then it occurred to Chika that the hospital staff probably would have told her visitor if she'd asked.

Chika paused. She didn't want to rude, but she wasn't feeling especially happy with this person, either... still, she'd gone to the trouble of bringing Chika her books back, so...

"...You wanna sit down?" Chika asked, without much enthusiasm. Although since she rarely spoke with enthusiasm these days to begin with, that probably didn't say much about her mood from Hanako's perspective.

Well, she kind of expected the kind of lukewarm welcome from Chika. After all, it's her fault she's in this in the first place instead of properly mending from her original injuries. right? Why if the situation was reversed then…

Then…

Well, Hanako would probably be counting the seconds until she was immediately capable of getting revenge. But Chika was not really like that, was she?

"Thank you, I think I will." Taking her up on her offer, she sat besides Chika's bed, with her hands in her lap. "I didn't miss any, did I? I grabbed all the ones I saw, but there's a chance I could have missed one or two."

Chika looked through the bag and shook her head. "No, it's all here," she said, setting the books down on the bedside table. "...Thanks."

Awkward silence followed. Chika, as usual, drew a blank for conversation topics. It might have occurred to her to ask the other girl's name, but... she didn't care, to be perfectly blunt about it. At least this girl being here made it easy to think of something that wasn't inflicting agony on either mindless monsters or monstrous men...

"Oh, don't mention it. I've caused you enough grief, haven't I? I can at least not add onto it!"

Hanako had quite a few things she liked talking about. But not one of them seemed like something good to talk about with Chika. So instead, she'd have to branch out, try something new. See if she could speak about something she'd be interested in.

All she knew for sure, was that she liked books. Truth be told? She was so shaken up by the event that she didn't even really look at what the books were about. It's almost comical how she tried to go after people with a knife, and plotted the demise of her eventual-boyfriend, but something like a simple accident could have let her so squeamish.

"What are your favorite things to read about, Chika?"

Chika glanced at the books, then shrugged, just slightly.

"I think I like mystery novels a bit more than the rest I've read, but I only started readin' a short while ago," she admitted. "My friend Isoroku lent me a book t' see if I could get into readin' and it worked. So I've been tryin' a few things here and there."

"Oh, those are nice!"

She'd read one or two. She was mostly into horror novels, really. But she'd found time to read mysteries when she could.

"You ever read a murder mystery and find yourself suspecting you can do things a lot better than the killer in the story?"

Okay, so she mainly read them for research purposes. But even though she probably wouldn't need to know what she learned there for Seiichi, they were nonetheless entertaining reads.

Chika turned a slightly dubious look on the other girl.

"...Not really," she said blandly. "I'd worry about my own sanity if I started contemplatin' how t' murder people effectively, t' be honest. No offense."

"Oh, well. Is-is that so?"

She looked down. Suddenly feeling quite self-consciousness. She'd rarely actually tried to be friendly with people in the past. So this was… not really something she was good at. If she wasn't really helping, perhaps she should go? She could always see her tomorrow.

"Anyways, I got you your books, maybe I should get out of your hair for now?"

Chika frowned, her eyebrows crinkling together just slightly. She was being obvious about not being especially happy to see this girl, but being all but directly called out on that felt uncomfortable. It made her feel like the bad guy, if she were honest about it...

"You can stay if ya want, it's no bother," she said. "...But I don't mean t' say ya should feel like ya hafta stay, either. Do whatever ya want."

She shrugged.

"One way or another, layin' around in a bed all day's boring."
