"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"
|
So... this is the work of that Toru Watanabe... Chika Nakadachi stood alone, some distance away from a blocked-off disaster site that had at one point been a hospital parking lot, staring mutely and with her usual blank, almost zombie-like expression at the sight before her. The parking lot was now a sinkhole, a massive, gaping crater of wreckage and ruination. Chika didn't know what the "official" explanation was, nor did she much care. She also didn't know what the hospital was doing to make up for the lack of a parking lot... nor did she much care about that, either. But how many people had died here? How many of those people had left loved ones behind, like Chika's mother had left her family...? It was senseless, random violence, and Chika, having had time to catch up with the times via the Persona-user forum "Bedlam," couldn't help but feel disgusted at all of it. The people who caused such horrors, people who inflicted pain on others without understanding it-- Except from the sound of his words on that forum... a gentle, hissing voice at the back of Chika's mind cut in, it might be that he does understand pain and suffering... like us, no? Chika's Persona, Tisiphone, had a point. The red-haired girl closed her eyes, recalling words posted to the forum by the terrorist in question: I am beyond caring. No help is possible. It was a sentiment she could sympathize with, even if her reason was worlds away from Toru Watanabe's. She didn't want to compare herself to such a monster, but at the same time, it was undeniable: such a man as him would understand her feelings far better than the vast majority of anyone. It gave her pause, the thought that she felt closer kinship with a terrorist than with the rest of the human race at this point. Of course, there were people who would butt in and try to "fix" him, as well. How fitting that he, too, should feel antagonism toward Chika's old friend. Well, that was neither here nor there. Chika, unlike Toru Watanabe, did not want Kyo dead. Even now, if Chika got wind that something bad had befallen Kyo, she... ...she didn't know what she would feel. But she doubted she'd be happy about it. Edited by The One True Nobody, Feb 7 2013, 12:11 AM.

Shu Mikami, immediately after chucking his pill bottle off the roof and into the sinkhole below, had decided that he had spent far too much of his time in the hospital for one lifetime. Therapy, medication, that one time he had a stomach infection from the food... it was all too much for a person like him to take. So he walked out, and the first thing he saw was.... "Oh my God..." A sinkhole. How could someone even... why would they even? He thought back to the Bedlam topics he had read. Toru Watanabe had done it, that nutjob... terrorism WASN'T cool! Though to be honest Shu would've enjoyed studying his mental state just to see how dark and twisted his mind really was. After all, he couldn't for the life of him remember what Watanabe's motive was. Then he saw the girl. He sighed and tried to work his way around the sinkhole, sticking as close to the surface of the hospital as could be until he was at the outer edge, and then finally, he walked around. She didn't look okay... she looked like she was lost in thought about something. Mikami began to wonder if it was a good idea to speak to her, but it would've been rude not to, right? "Uhm... h-h-h-hello...." |

Chika did not immediately register that the stuttering voice was speaking to her. She had, as she so often did these days, more or less disengaged her brain from the outside world; Shu Mikami's greeting simply bled together with all the other pointless white noise. Which is to say that she didn't react at all. But keep trying, Shu! It's not like randomly talking to strangers might annoy them, or anything. |

"My God... it's like she's suffering from Apathy Syndrome or something! Excuse me!" He said aloud, then tried his best to build up the courage to actually speak with her. In fact, he was extremely proud of himself when the end result spewed from his mouth as if forced. It was better than stuttering like an idiot, now wasn't it? |

Chika blinked. Turned her head toward Shu. And said: "...What?" And that was pretty much it. |

She seemed... well, irate. Irritated people weren't exactly the best kind of people for Shu to speak with considering how meek his personality was, so for a moment he tried to compose himself, gather his thoughts... and then in the end he still blew it. "W-W-W-W-W-W...." He sighed, adjusted his coat, and tried again... "Well... I was w-w-w-wondering... if you were okay... y-you seemed k-k-kinda spaced out th-th-there..." |

And if there was any such thing as a good conversation opener with which to approach Chika Nakadachi, it just so happened that pretty much any variation of Are you okay? was the exact opposite of that. The red-haired girl's bland expression shifted, slightly, into one of irritation. "I'm fine. Go away." And then she turned her eyes back toward the sinkhole. Four words: I'm fine, go away. In the months since Kenshin had died, these were the four most often-repeated words in Chika's entire vocabulary. Although, that wasn't quite right. For a while it had simply ended at I'm fine. The words go away were a more recent addition to the phrase. Either way, when she said it to Shu, it sounded as flat and automated as though it were a recorded response, almost--as if Shu had dialed a number and the answering machine had picked up instead of the person he'd been trying to reach. As soon as Chika's face turned away from Shu, her irritated expression likewise became flat once again. |

Shu didn't bother to leave when he was told. The expression on her face told hiim that she was none to happy to hear those words, considering the obvious nature of it all. With a sigh and an annoyed expression, the scientist looked at her for a moment, and felt that if he spoke again she might've become... rather angry with him. He didn't want to go, as something was clearly wrong with her. The tone of voice she used had told him that much, "No. You're not. I'm not an idiot..." |

"Coulda fooled me," Chika replied. She looked irritated again, even moreso than before. "But yeah, you're right. I'm not fine. It's also none o' your business. Go away." Another persistent one, hissed the agitated voice of Tisiphone in her head. I could give him a jolt for you, little snake. That would make him think twice about his nosing... Chika's head twitched just a bit to the side, as it might have if she were trying to get a fly off her nose. No, she thought, she wasn't going to shock the annoying stuttering idiot with a lightning spell. The temptation was certainly there, though... |

"Tch, if it's, as you put it... 'none o' my business' then you could at least go in there and seek some kind of help." Mikami stated in a manner that was far more courageous than before. Why was he suddenly standing up for himself? Why was he suddenly being so rude? Why was he not drinking a large cup of coffee at that very moment? Hell, not even Shinigami knew the answer to that last one. "I refuse to go until either you seek out some help or you beat the crap outta me." The latter option would likely be more desireable in the girl's case, and that realization was what caused Mikami to clamp a hand over his mouth only to slowly release it. Of COURSE he'ld say that, the worst possible thing to say. The sad thing was, it wasn't like he could defend himself either, for fear of accidentally using Persona magic of some kind... |
