A few days following his miraculous, perplexing recovery of an entire finger, Ryuunosuke was preparing to leave the hospital. His parents had simply called him, telling him to hurry up and walk home, leaving Ryuunosuke to prepare to leave by himself. He had very few of his belongings at the hospital; a fresh change of clothes, his phone, and some of his schoolwork. A couple pages of sloppy letters and miscalculated work fluttered to the floor as Ryuunosuke shakily stood up and off the bed, prompting him to lean down to pick up the mess. Predictably, he fell over entirely, landing on his face and nearly knocking over the cabinet of medical materials before managing to pull himself up onto the bed. The persona user reached over and grabbed the papers with his left hand, situating them on his lap along with the rest of his belongings. The slightly-off fleshy color of his newly grown pinky finger caught Ryuunosuke's eye, and he looked down at his hand. He lifted it up, holding his palm out and clenching it into a fist, watching the movement carefully. Ryuunosuke's shoulders slumped and he put his belongings off to the side. He sat down and watched his fingers flex again, looking fairly somber. |

A dark fog descended upon Nana's thoughts as she walked to the hospital. She needed to reach the hospital as fast as possible, and yet she couldn't make the effort to move any faster. Maybe she could have taken a bus, or gotten a ride from a friend with a car. But walking seemed more appropriate. Gave her more time to wallow in a pit of shame. She knew that people were after her, and she'd known for a long time, but she ignored that and thought everything was okay, and now her apprentice had been hurt. She'd already known that she was shit as a mentor, and this only proved it. Somehow, she made it to the hospital. A tired looking receptionist pointed the way to Ryuunosuke's ward and Nana proceeded down the hall to his room, which wasn't hard to find. She peeked through the window on the doorway. There he was, sitting on his bed, looking the way she felt. The right thing to lighten the situation would have been kicking the door open. Instead, Nana calmly turned the doorknob and walked in. She smiled painfully at Ryuunosuke as she came in. "Yo, Apprentice? How's it hangin'?" |

The calm nature of Nana's entrance didn't do much to put Ryuunosuke at ease; was something wrong? Regardless, he gave his mentor a strained smile and a bow as he stood up, nearly tripping over himself as he did so. "Shishou! Hi!" He steadied himself on the bed, placing a hand on it before regaining his balance, his gaze returning to Nana. "I'm doing a lot better. I was about to leave, actually. Someone I don't really know came in during the night and healed my finger back, and I only had a few bruises and small burns, so the doctors say I'll be fine." His face entered into a worried expression as Ryuunosuke's smile shifted into a frown. "What about you? Are you okay? I was really worried, since those guys were asking about you and all..." On Nana's end of the worrying meter, dark creases underlined Ryuunosuke's eyes, and some underlying anxiety seemed to hide beneath his words, eager to ask questions but wary about pushing too far. |

His finger was back? That was good. No one would have to look at Ryuunosuke and know that he'd been victim to the yakuza. But those creases under his eyes... had he been sleeping? Had he been worrying about her? He shouldn't have done that. She wasn't someone to be worried about. "I'm fine. There ain't no yakuza thugs who can take yer Shishou down. Hehe." She held her fist up like a weightlifter might. "Been busy with a couple things. Mighta heard about it online or somethin'. Not really anythin' too important, though." |

Ryuunosuke seemed convinced for all the world that Nana could lift the entire continent of japan and throw it at the yakuza with those weight-lifting arms of hers, smiling and nodding with a admiring glow in his eyes. He relaxed slightly, putting his hands on the bed and sitting back up on it, since he had a few things he wanted to ask his teacher about. His mouth drooped into a frown as Ryuunosuke asked, "What happened with the thing online? Why did those people start accusing you of something?" He gripped the sides of the bed a bit tightly, looking confused. "Did something happen, Shishou? They seemed really insistent." Normally, he wouldn't think anything of the words of people clearly inferior to Nana, but the fact that there were apparently criminals of some sort trying to figure things out about her gave Ryuunosuke pause. What if she was in danger? If she was, he'd have to try and help her out, somehow. If he even could, anyway. |

The corners of Nana's mouth wavered at Ryuunosuke's words, and she fought to keep a smile on her face. Innocent Ryuunosuke. She couldn't let him get involved any more than he was. Even if he'd been forced in by the events in the warehouse, she couldn't... But she couldn't lie to him either. He was her apprentice after all. "There was some stuff that happened, yeah. Some guys I've been workin' with caused some trouble and a buncha Persona users got all pissed off 'bout it," Nana admitted. "And they wouldn't listen when I told 'em we didn't mean no harm, so it got into a bit o' a fight." |

Ryuunosuke nodded, seeming to understand. He crossed his arms, lifting up a forearm to scratch his chin in thought. "That's weird. Usually those people seem a lot smarter. At least on Bedlam." He didn't personally know either of them, but he'd read around a bit, and they usually seemed much more level-headed, more or less. "Still, it's probably just a misunderstanding, right?" He said, smiling and nodding to himself. He looked back up at Nana, the confused look returning. "Still, though, what kind of trouble was happening? I mean... those guys were asking about you, so... are you doing anything dangerous, Shishou?" |

A misunderstanding? Oh, if only that were the case. It would have made everything so much easier if it were. When Ryuunosuke asked for more details, Nana was already formulating another lie in her head. It would be so easy to lie to him, tell him something so blatantly untrue he'd still believe just because it was her. She opened her mouth to let the lies spill forth... and her voice caught in her throat. She shook her head. "Yeah. Yeah it's pretty dangerous," Nana admitted. "What happened the other day probably ain't gonna be the only time somethin' like that happens. You shouldn't bother w' it." |

The confused look shifted to one of worry as Nana admitted the dangerous nature of her actions. Ryuunosuke's eyes widened, and the moment she told him to not bother with it, he began shaking his head rapidly. "I can't just ignore it if you're in danger, Shishou!" He stood back up, looking up into Nana's eyes with a determined look in his face. "If you're doing dangerous stuff, I can just help you, right? I can be useful!" He bit his lip. "I know you said no before, but I really want to help. I..." He paused, frowning and thinking, a sudden realization coming to mind. "Uh... what are you doing anyway, Shishou?" |

Again the temptation to lie to Ryuunosuke was there, and it was again repelled by some moral barrier Nana didn't even know she had in her. It was coupled with an incredible reluctance; she did not want to tell Ryuunosuke. Ryuunosuke was pure. He was clean. He was the innocent boy who, upon gaining confidence, would become a hero. He wasn't the kind of person who should be following her, just as she wasn't the kind of person who should have been mentoring him. "Ryuunosuke, no, I..." She bit her lip. But he could be useful. He was more powerful than she was, even if he didn't realize it. And he was a capable pawn. He would listen to her without question, something she couldn't say for anyone else in her group. An enforcer like him could help her gain the respect she needed. And if it came down to it, he could be an executioner. She steeled herself, and when she opened her eyes, her expression was businesslike. She stared Ryuunosuke in the eye, and there was no emotion behind her eyes. "Before I tell you, I want you t' promise me that ya won't tell anyone what I tell you. Everythin' I say stays in this room. Understood?" |
