The bottom of the hole was unstable, and the wings Kira used to stay aloft stirred up a choking cloud of grit. The surface upon which they stood was composed primarily of crushed asphalt and broken glass. Moreover, the surface was slowly sinking, though equal to a three or four levels deep into the ruins, it was falling downward, the boiling mass of wreckage spreading into available space before sinking and being sucked back in -- actually attempting to stand on it would be a deadly mistake. There were people there, maybe four or five kept alive but trapped in automobiles that were being chewed on by the roiling wreckage. Toru had missed a support strut, and had to mamudoon it until it folded and shattered. The hole might have been larger if he had done that earlier, but no use crying over spilled milk. He was on the highest level, belly pressed to the floor, edge of the hole just below his masked face. He might be seen, but in the seething chaos it would be difficult to pick him out. -- Up above Rio holstered her camera, and returned to providing a cordon with the other three. A few more people had come over from the crowd to assist with providing a human chain around the hole, sensing the logic in it. The paramedics disentangled themselves from the ambulance, pushing in with a middle-aged woman on a stretcher. They both held up their hands to Kyo in a "high five" gesture before they managed to get in. |

Kyo's first instinct was to follow Treo and Kira into the sinkhole. That would have been reckless in the extreme, though... maybe if she had an Armored Form like Kira, she'd have wings like Morrigan. As it stood, she had only her feet, and was pretty sure she wasn't quite skilled enough to navigate the apocalypse below without help. Sighing disconsolately, she returned the paramedics' gesture and then stared after Treo and Kira for a long moment--but she soon lost sight of them in the cloud of grit and dust that Kira's wings kicked up. "Fuck it, I hate not bein' able to do nothin'..." Kyo groused, dismissing her Persona and then moving to assist with the cordon. Patience, kitten. You'll be able to do more someday soon. All of the training you're doing will be useful for more than just saving Isoroku... trust me~ Yeah, I know... Edited by The One True Nobody, Dec 13 2012, 10:02 AM.

"I'm fine!" Kira shouted through the smoke, over the din of the churning and melting wreckage. She was glad her armor's helmet came with a filter. After giving a few experimental beats of her wind to push the grit and smog out of the way, she gave up on the idea as causing more trouble than it would be worth. The brunette spotted cars out in the mess and saw shadows of people moving inside. "I'm going after the cars in the center- don't follow on foot, you'll be swallowed up by the mess." Her wings spread, she took to the air again, flying towards her goal with great speed. As she flew by, she cast Maraquadyne to create a downpour around the melting wreckage. The less melting sludge to add to the quicksand-like cauldron in the center of the pit the better. First priority was the car that looked the closest to going under. Hopefully the terrified occupants wouldn't mistake her for a monster and panic. It took her a second to consider the most efficient means of rescue. Cutting the car open would mean she needed only to carry the occupants out, but if there were more than she could carry the compromised structure of the car might not last long enough under pressure for her to make a second trip. Not to mention any who resisted at the sight of her would delay the process. She'd pull the car free as best she could first, then, and only remove the occupants after- it would make it more obvious she meant to help and grant more time for second passes if need be. Kira grabbed onto the vehicle and began to conjure water beneath and around it to push away the rubble and concrete that was trying to suck it under. The same source of water began to try and push the car upwards, supporting the persona user who clung to it with her clawed gloves and deceptively strong tail. Her wings beat furiously to produce the lift needed to pull herself and her passengers upwards. |

WHERE THE FUCK IS MARIO

He felt the floor groan below him and gave a sigh. "I was hoping to save this, but I guess I have no choice." He summoned Thanatos behind him and lifted into the air, the Persona fit around his body, the chains that bound the coffins to Thanatos wrapping around Treo, the black coat following. His head was covered by a black helmet with white compound eyes hidden behind the beak of a bird. In one hand was the sword of Thanatos, in the other was a claw. The coffins around him rearranged to be on each side, allowing him to glide. "Kira-san, do you need some help?" The armored form drifted closer to Kira, keeping an eye out for survivors. |

"What's happening?" a voice called out from the crowd. Another cried out: "Who did this?" They pressed closer on the people attempting to hold them back, and Rio licked her lips. She liked crowds -- they gave a lot of cover, after all -- but being the focus of one's attention wasn't really her thing. She looked at the others in the cordon. "Any ideas?" she asked. --- The sunroof of a car was open, and a pair of people were visible inside. They appeared to be a middle-aged man with thinning hair and a child. The man was attempting to shield the child from the persona-users, assuming them to be some variety of horrible monster, while the child looked up in wonder. The front end of the car was being chewed to pieces by the collapsing floor, and had already crumpled in. The motion of the rubble and grit force it back up and out and got the vehicle level, the downward motion cracking the back windshield. Up above Toru watched. He stretched, preparing to launch a surprise attack on the rescuers. Donning his mask, he envisioned the monstrous form that Ahriman had given him. |

"Okay, dude," Kyo crowed loudly. "Highly unstable sinkhole over here, keep the bloody fuck away, ya fuckin' idiots, or do ya'll wanna collapse the rest o' the hospital? Keep the fuck back and let the professionals do their thing! We don't know what caused this yet, or what's happening--" LIES! LIES AND DECEIT! declared Morrigan dramatically from the back of Kyo's brain. "--so until we do, we'd all really appreciate if you didn't stampede the thing, they're kinda trying to pull the survivors out right now and that might not work if y'all fuck it up. Or what, ya think ya'll have some sorta super-sinkhole-search-and-rescue-skills or something? I said, GET BACK!" Kyo was highly tempted to let Morrigan's voice bleed into her own and amplify it in her anger, but considering some of these people had already seen Persona-users at work here today... probably not a good idea to test those waters right now. Shizuka, further down the line, began echoing Kyo's warnings to get back, except in more civil terms. Takeo took a moment to move closer to Rio, who'd joined the cordon near him, and said in a low voice, "Hey, are there--cops coming, or anything? Fire department? Actual professionals of some kind? I don't think these people are going to listen to random kids like us for long, we need some sort of official back-up here..." |

Kira flinched as the back windshield cracked, but it looked as though it had got them some space to maneuver and time get the occupants out. She faintly registered the wild card's approach and shouting from above over the din of the churning wreckage. Hopefully nobody would do something stupid. Great, and now that I've thought that, I KNOW someone will. Better hurry. "Two inside this one, one adult and one child. We need to get them out before their car goes to pieces. Try to go for the cars that are closest to sinking, first; we can't waste time." Kira replied to Treo's question as clearly and calmly as she could. She didn't want to further panic the car's two occupants. The teen knelt against the car gently, offering her free hand open palmed towards the older of the two. "Take my hand and hold onto your kid; we're getting you out of this mess." There was a hint of urgency in her voice. As they spoke, some of the other survivors were getting closer and closer to being crushed in their own vehicles. If the father didn't take her hand, she would grab the two occupants and pull them out. |

Treo nodded. "Understood, I'll do what I can." He floated nearby and made sure Kira was fine before searching for more survivors. He moved away from Kira, looking for anyone else in the nearby cars. The coffins on his back hummed slightly as he hovered across the bottom of the pit. |

A wave ran through the crowd. People who had a moment ago been gawking or asking for more information now looked nauseous and unsettled. Sirens rose from further down Matechi street: approaching firetrucks and police cars. Rio felt something in her stomach turn over, and her head went light. She fell down onto one knee, and brought her hand up to her mouth. It wasn't as bad as the Reaper was, but there was something more to it, a sort of vibration, or intentionality to it. The Reaper's approach was like a knife in the gut. This was like a stranger reaching out on the city bus and cutting your hair. The father, choosing between certain death and potential horrors at the hand of a monster, decided to go with uncertain doom: he grabbed her hand, and took hold of his daughter, waiting to be pulled free. A woman pushed open the door of her car, trying to climb free. She was in her late twenties and somewhat thick around the middle. The car was on its side and the lower part of the car was crumpling inward. Elsewhere in the pit, another vehicle had become impaled on a support strut that was covered in orange-hot metal. Inside of a small coupe was an elderly couple, watching everything with their eyes wide. They sat open-mouthed, trying to understand what they were seeing. The back window of their coupe exploded inward, and the man was pulled upward, a long pale streamer of muscle wrapped around his neck, and began to tug him upward to a gaping hallway. |

"Oh thank God," Takeo muttered when the sound of approaching firetrucks met his ears. But then, Rio went down. "Hey--you okay?" he asked, moving closer and putting a hand on her shoulder. Kyo quieted down and kept a hard, stern gaze on the crowd as they appeared to back off for the moment, at the least. But at that moment, she, too, felt an odd sensation in her gut... call it intuition, paranoia, or a coincidental flutter of the butterflies, but... ...but she was suddenly a lot more worried for Treo and Kira than she'd been a few moments ago. |
