Rio had gone by one of her secondary newsstands, since the one in Tanjiro had closed down. Print was dying, and that saddened her to no end, but thankfully you could still buy national and foreign newspapers if you knew where to ask.

She was just moving past the parking lot of the hospital when she felt something far below: a person down in the ruins, a powerful Persona user. She stopped: normally, she could only feel the Reaper from this far up, but sometimes her range fluctuated. What was going on down there?

There was a groaning sound and she heard a number of car alarms go off. Glancing over, she tried to figure out what was going on.

A spot near the middle of the lot, a bit north-east of center, was dropping in, exacerbated by the weight of the cars on top of it. The hole began to spread, its edges falling in and pulling a number of cars with it.

"Holy shit!" she said, her eyes bugging out behind her goggles. She dropped her bag, and moved to the edge of the the lot. The hole's advance looked to be slowing, but it had reached almost to the south side of the hospital.

She raised up her hand and covered her mouth.

That was awesome. Mostly terrible, but not as bad as it could've been, but the sight had been amazing. She'd never seen the ground fall out from underneath a parking lot like that before. Could it be something like that sinkhole the cop had posted about?

Kyo Charinko had been heading for Treo's place, to thank him properly for healing her and Isoroku.

Takeo Wakahisa was on his way back to the university with a couple of books on Tarot tucked into a plastic bag slung over his shoulder.

And Shizuka Setsuko was browsing the clothes shop for clothes. She was still pretty bad at it, but at least she had Charles on her speed-dial for when she wanted color advice.

All three of them heard the sound of the parking lot collapsing into the ground; all three of them dropped what they were doing (which in Shizuka's case meant about five or six outfits, and then ducking back into the changing stall with a squeak when she realized she hadn't put her top back on) and rushed toward the sound, each prepared to summon their mask at a moment's notice.

Kyo reached it first: her training with Ayane had rendered her easily the fastest runner of the three. What she saw when she reached the hospital caused her to freeze on the spot, and drained all the color from her face.

"What the shit..." she breathed. And then, still under her breath: "Metalworker Man, that motherfuckin' mousetrap o' yours had better work, 'cause I think my guess about Nutjob's reason for stealin' all that thermite mighta been right after all..."

...That... that... that psychopathic son of a bitch's dickgirl concubine. This is too much. This is just too much.

...Yeah. Yeah, it is.

You're pushing yourself too hard again. That nurse has been looking for you. If you get caught-

I know the risks. I just can't bring myself to stand by when people are hurt and I can do something about it.

In the hospital, one doctor felt a wind brush against the back of his neck. He turned about to look for the source, but the hallway was empty. The man merely grumbled about yet another draft, the lack of proper maintenance, how understaffed the building was, how the place was going to collapse in on itself some day, and much of the other things he had complained of over his years of working there.

The scene repeated itself throughout the hour, each time the would-be witnesses being too slow to respond to catch a glimpse of the pink blur. Once again, patients with various injuries would make astonishing progress in their recovery overnight. The blur felt no small amount of pride in its work, but also no small amount of exhaustion. It's attempt to make a hasty retreat was cut short by the sight of a crowd in the lobby. Hastily changing course, it sped off in search of a secluded spot to hide and catch its breath until it could leave.

---

Kira awoke to the sounds of an earthquake. Her reflexive attempt to bolt to her feet only ended in her falling flat on her face, the sun-baked surface of the roof being the first site to greet her that day. The shaking and her foggy mind's inability to recall where she was prompted her to curl up defensively.

-ira! KIRA! Snap out of it! Otohime's voice broke through the flood of questions and panic as the sound slowly vanished. With the certainty that nothing catastrophic was happening right that second, the startled track star slowly regained her bearings. All at once, her memories of the night before caught up to her.

"Shit! I fell asleep!" Tossing aside the cloth that she had wrapped herself in (where the hell did that come from?) the teen stood to better survey her surroundings. The sun confirmed her screw up, but also served as proof she wasn't sitting in a jail cell or strapped down to a table awaiting dissection. She patted her face and was relieved to find she was still in her disguise, mask and all.

Looking around and channeling a small dose of healing energy into her aching back- sleeping on the roof was a bad idea in more ways than she could count- she eventually direction her attention downwards. Her jaw nearly popped out of its joints. It was immediately apparent where the source of the rumbling came from.

Holy crap! Look at the size of- a few feet closer and- She cringed and forced herself to settle down. A giant sink hole had just appeared where there once was a hospital parking lot. She felt an instinctual need to find out what had happened, and if there was anyone in need of help.

Kira spun on her heel and headed towards the door leading to the stairs down from the roof. While a speed buff made the long dash relatively quick, she also knew she couldn't run through the hospital after something so catastrophic without drawing attention. This was not a problem for her. Traesto.

The spell activated just as she passed the threshold of the door, and she found herself just outside the hospital's entrance. A brief pink blur and short gust of wind was of no interest to those who were in position to see it, what with the massive hole in the earth where a number of cars and solid ground once was demanding the full attention of any onlookers.

Shortly after, Kira trotted out from behind the dumpster besides the building without her costume. The now plain-clothed girl mentally kicked herself for not remembering she had the escape spell the night before as she rushed over to check things out.

WHERE THE FUCK IS MARIO
Treo had been talking with Masquerade as he was in the hospital. At least, that was what he thought the boy was. But there were theories. Perhaps another was Masquerade. Perhaps the mantle had been passed down. It was hard to tell. Suddenly a roaring sound roused him from his thoughts as he came running down the stairs towards the entrance.

He pushed the crowd aside to see the sinkhole.

He had noticed Kira and smiled. "Ah, Kameko-san, pleasure as always.. though not really this time. We have to do something Kira. He's not going to stop."

Rio closed her eyes and focused, scanning the hole. The presence down near the bottom was gone, but a number of the parked cars near the edge still had occupants, and there was an ambulance teetering over the edge. She glanced around and noticed Treo and a familiar-looking girl. Kameko, she thought?

She shouldered her way through the crowd.

"Excuse me...hey...move...."

She approached the two elbows thrown out from moving through the crowd and took a deep breath.

"Hey, uh...Ashdown-san, Kameko-san," she said, then glanced at the pit. "There are some people still in those cars, and that, uh, you know..."

She pointed at the ambulance. It was a sad fact that she had no more ability to handle this situation than one of the unawakened people who were gathering around the hole. Fortunately, she knew people who did. She just hoped that they were in a generous mood, at this point.

"Hey, Treo-dude!"

Kyo slipped through the crowd like a snake through grass (appropriately so, given her instructor in slipping past things), and gave Treo a strained grin as she jogged up next to him.

"Need a hand?" she said. "Funny thing, this happenin' right after my li'l run-in with a certain nutjob a few days ago, huh... well, shit, good thing his aim sucks. Must be alla that crazy messin' with his eyeballs." She glanced at Kira and Rio. "I take it your friends here've met everyone's favorite li'l guide-bug?"

---

Takeo Wakahisa gawked. Then gawked some more. Then he spluttered: "What the hell? Did the ruins just cave in or something? The Shadows can do that?"

"I don't--" (pant) "--think it was--" (gasp) "--Shadows, Takeo-san."

The bookworm glanced over his shoulder to see a familiar girl, clutching at her side and panting from exertion. "Shizuka-san," Takeo said. "What do you--y'mean you think someone actually this on purpose?"

Shizuka nodded but didn't say anything; instead she gestured vaguely at the newly-formed sinkhole.

"Let's--" (pant) "--go help. If we can. Any way we can," she said once she'd caught a bit of her breath back.

"...Yeah, sure," Takeo said. "Not sure what help we'll be, but..."

Takeo slipped his glasses off of his sweater vest and onto his face, and then jogged toward the sinkhole, Shizuka trailing in his wake.

Kira cheered up at the approach of a pair of familiar faces. Treo and- if she was remembering right- Rio would hopefully have some idea of what was going on. Before she could ask any questions, the consequences of exerting herself as much as she had immediately after being woken by an earthquake began to catch up to her. She could only pause to double over and catch her breath as they began to speak.

"'He'? Who's 'he'?" It took her a moment to recognize who he was talking about. "Oh, right. Damn." She rubbed the sleep from her eyes as she returned to her full height. Though still tired from the night before, Kira was becoming steadily more alert. Sleeping lightly was something she had gotten used to, from the time she was being hunted by Chouko to the kidnappings to dealing with her shadow, and waking up quickly was a habit she'd formed during her time with her grandparents.

Her reminiscing was cut short by Rio's interjection. People were stuck down in the hole that very well could be deep enough to land them into the ruins, and there were a few who were in danger of falling down after him. Kira straightened and cursed herself for switching out of her costume. "I'm on it; just a sec."

After looking to make sure nobody was starring straight at her, she blurred back towards the spot behind the dumpster to don her disguise again. The speed buffs were mercifully still in effect from her hasty escape not too long ago, and between them and her own agility, she was incognito once more.

Her first act was to blur over towards the ambulance, stopping on the side opposite the crowd to keep herself hidden as best she could. Otohime manifested next to her in her humanoid form, and the two began to strain themselves by trying to pull it away from the ledge. Lift with your legs, not your back!

I know, I know!
The two began to wish they had physical spells or a strength buff at their disposal, or at least that there weren't a giant crowd of witnesses that made pushing the ambulance back from the hole with a geyser a terrible idea... though considering how busted up the ground was, that was probably a bad idea either way. FOCUS, please.

He gave a smile to Kyo as she approached. "Its not looking good, cars and shit might fall in. If that happens, they're stuck down there with him. I wouldn't wish that on anyone."

Treo saw all the witnesses. But then he shrugged. Kira was trying to pull the Ambulance. She needed help. Simple as that. His black mask formed over his face while he walked towards her slowly. "Thanatos. I need your help."

The beast appeared next to him as he nodded to Kira, attempting to pull the ambulance free. "That Watanabe bastard's gone too far. This isn't something that can keep going on. We've got to do something Kameko-san. We're the only ones who can."

Rio established the Mojo Wire, setting it up between Kira, Treo, and the girl who had approached them -- she could only link to so many people at once -- and began to use them as relays for scanning, getting a better idea of where people were. Some had, indeed, fallen deeper into the Earth, possibly as far down as the ruins.

"Rio Matsushita," she introduced herself to Kyo. "UncleLono on the forums, and original operator. You know who caused this?"

She had begun to put things together, but ever since she had closed her backdoors on the forum, everything needed confirmation.

The crowd was beginning to press closer, gawking at it. They would have to find some way to hold the people back, but she was kind of at a loss as to how to do that.

"Kyo Charinko, 'TheTwoCannedAdrenalineJunkie,'" the green-haired girl said. "An' it's most likely Toru Watanabe with all that thermite he's been stealin'," she added, keeping her voice low enough that only Rio could hear. "If you want in on stoppin' him... well, Naoya's got somethin' cookin' to lure the bastard outta hidin', so talk to him about it... he'll need the help, I'll tell ya that. Jus' keep in mind the stuff I posted on Bedlam about how he fights..."

Kyo turned around, scowled at the crowd, cupped her hands to her face, and shouted: "OI! DO--NOT--APPROACH--THE--MASSIVE--FUCKING--CRATER! YOU IDIOTS HEAR ME? KEEP YO' BUM ASSES BACK, LET THE GROWN-UPS HANDLE IT!" Letting her hands drop to her sides, her eyes went deadpan and she said, "Well, that's 'bout all I can do. Hopefully that cop guy from Bedlam'll be here soon..."

At this point two more teenagers (namely Takeo Wakahisa and Shizuka Setsuko) jogged over to Kyo and Rio, Takeo's eyes still fixed on the apocalyptic scene before him. Shizuka approached Rio without preamble.

"You're both Persona-users, right? I'm Shizuka, this is Takeo. How can we help? I don't think either of us have healing magic, but I know enough about first aid that I can help that way and--and I'm sure some people must have fallen into the ruins! We'll help however we can, just tell us where to go."

Kyo blinked twice at Shizuka, shrugged, and said, "More hands, more work done faster. Lemme see if I can help with that ambulance..."

Kyo dashed over to where Treo was, and as she positioned herself to add some meager effort to the ambulance-tugging operation, she leaned over to Treo and muttered: "Talk to Naoya if ya really wanna take down the Nutjob, he's got somethin' cookin' to bait that fucker out..."
