Oh my God, I LEFT THE STOVE ON AT HOME!

Seiichi twiddled his thumbs nervously as he waited for the doctor's return. Today was the day that the test results for his father came back. Seiichi tilted backwards in the cheap chair he was sitting in, even though said chair wasn't meant to be sat in while tilted. But Seiichi wasn't a stickler for rules, his past actions made that much obvious. However, he felt like it would be best to stop breaking the rules of sitting in cheap lobby chairs as he saw the doctor arrive. Putting the chair down into its proper position, Seiichi stood up. The doctor's face was solemn, which immediately put up a red flag for Seiichi. "What's the news, doc?" asked Seiichi. The doctor let out a soft sigh, one that sent up an entire string of red flags for Seiichi this time around. "There's no easy way to put this...you might want to sit back down." Seiichi obliged, sitting back in the chair-properly this time. "Seiichi...the tests came back positive for Alzheimer's." The sensation of a bullet through the brain returned, same as when Seiichi's father was unable to recognize his own son. Seiichi felt his breath catch in his lungs as the cold reality of the situation sank in. "Are you staying with someone, Seiichi?" Seiichi nodded, not really listening, his thoughts centered around the fact that his father was being gripped by a severe mental disorder. "Well, I suggest you stay with them until we can get things figured out. The progression of the disease has reached fairly high levels- did you notice anything unusual with your father before he failed to show up at work?" "N-no." lied Seiichi, staring up at the ceiling. Everything seemed a million miles away, like a barely-remembered dream. Or maybe a long-forgotten nightmare. "I'm sorry you had to find out like this." said the doctor, standing up and walking away. Seiichi didn't move. He just sat there, for a good ten minutes or so before he staggered to his feet. ...why? |
