Akio flipped the next page of his book for the twenty-ninth time in the afternoon. It was almost identical in appearance to the last one and shock-full of complex equations and obscure symbols, but the teenager felt a pleasure like no other while reading them. Sitting at a table in the school's library, with earplugs to help him focus on the open book in front of him, the boy was in the perfect conditions to engage in one of his favorite activities: mathematics. Numbers had always exerted a particular fascination on Akio: ever since he had been able to understand what they were, what they meant and what they were used for, the boy had always found in them a source of limitless discovery: he loved their raw, simple, objective truth. Mathematics were logic and rationality in their very essence: Putting them under a negative or disdainful light was one of the rare things that could make the usually-collected Akio lose his cool. While reading, the boy hummed a strange tune. It would certainly seem strange for the outside observer, but it was merely a sign of Akio's focus: the brown-haired teenager innately associated numbers and formulas with musical tunes. It was something he did since he was young: there existed a name for such a trick of the mind, but Akio could never remember it. Focused as he was, the boy would probably fail to notice anybody trying to talk to him. |

"Uuu... heavy..." Kinzaki was seen carrying at east six thick books towards the table where Akio was sitting at. Apparently, she decided to read something in this library (despite her mansion having a private one). Much to her joy, she found several books that seemed to be interesting. "Y-you don't mind if I sit here?" Kinzaki asked Akio after setting down the books on the table. |

Boom! The thundering sound of Kinzaki's books hitting the table resounded in the air. Startled by the sudden jump of his book in the direction of his face, Akio looked up to see a cute-looking girl standing before his table. He was beginning to wonder why she was moving her lips without actually speaking a word when he realised that he still had his earplugs on. Taking them out, he asked: «I'm sorry, what were you saying ?!». His voice came out a little louder than he had wanted. |

"Eeep!" Kinzaki was startled when Akio spoke to her with such a loud voice. The kimono-clad student/heiress blushed slightly after displaying her unladylike behavior in front of other person (with her startled in front of Akio being unladylike). "I-I'm sorry! I'm just asking whether I can sit here or not!" she said in apologetic tone. |

"Sitting here ? Ah, yeah... Of course you can sit here. No problem." Akio said with a friendly smile."But we should decrease the volume a little. It looks like we're annoying some people." he added in a lower voice. Indeed, the other students in the library were giving them angry looks behind their shoulders. Akio noticed Kinzaki's kimono. Weird. Who wore a kimono at school ? He would have the time to ask her later. For now, introducing himself was at hand. "My name is Akio Sakuraba. I'm in 1-1." he said politely. "Did you come here to study ? That's a whole lotta books you have here." |

"Y-yes, I-I'm sorry..." Kinzaki bowed apologetically as she took her seat. After sitting, she took one of the books and began reading. The book was about a misadventure of a teddy bear whose task was to bring a cursed ring into a volcano to end the dark lord's reign. Yeah, that was quite a strange story, but Kinzaki was curious about it, so she decided to read it. Hearing Akio's question, Kinzaki just shook her head. "No, I did most of my studies at home. I decided to come here to read books," she informed before she smiled sweetly. "And you..." she looked at the things that Akio was reading. "Ah, mathematics. Interesting..." she tilted her head. |

"I apologize too. I shouldn't have startled you in the first place." Akio answered in a formal tone. Akio leant back on his chair, hands behind his head, stretching his legs. "Hrrrm... Well, I guess studying at home has its advantages. I prefer to read here, personally. More interesting books and less noise. ". Hearing Kinzaki's remark about mathematics, Akio gave his happiest smile. "You're pretty damn right ! It's absolutely enthralling if you're into it." he said in an enthusiastic voice. "Are you interested in math too ? By the way, I must say that you look really good in this kimono. You are a very attractive girl." . It was merely meant as a compliment and a statement of fact, but it was doubtful that Kinzaki would not take it as shameless flirting. Well, Akio wasn't going to tell an attractive girl that she wasn't, huh ? He saw no good in not stating his opinion on Kinzaki's attractiveness. Edited by GKG, Sep 29 2012, 06:51 AM.

Kinzaki blinked when Akio complimented her look. "Umm... i-is that so?" she asked. It's rare for anyone to compliment her look in front of her. But she smiled regardless. "I guess I shall thank you for that, Sakuraba-san," she said. "Ah, I should introduce myself as well. My name is Kinzaki Kirihara, class 1-3. I'm pleased to meet you, Sakuraba-san," she introduced herself. "And yes, I also like math, among other things..." Kinzaki nodded |

Akio had expected the girl to react... differently to his compliment. Well, it was always nice to see people who didn't see ulterior motives behind every word. Akio felt some fondness for Kinzaki growing inside of him. "It is a pleasure to meet you too, Kirihara-san." the boy responded politely. Kinzaki telling her that she liked math brought another smile on his face. He was really beggining to like this girl. "Good to know! Too many people dismiss math as useless and boring. This is simply not true. Mathematics have always helped us make our lives easier and understand the world around us. Dismissing them as useless is comparable to considering understanding of the world as useless-" Noticing that he was going on a rant, the boy blushed slightly before clearing his throat. "My point is, math is useful and I love it. Though, to be fair, I don't have many pastimes besides it.". "So, what else are you interested into ? I'd just like to know." he asked. |

"Yes, our life itself is full with mathematics, like how many steps you can take to reach your bathroom, how long you can take to finish one page of a book you're reading and many more," Kinzaki said enthusiastically. "Simply put, mathematics are truth." When Akio asked about her pastimes, Kinzaki placed her finger on her cheek, thinking. "Umm... you can say I have many hobbies. I love reading books and classical poems. And I also like Japanese culture, so I also read classical Japanese literature. And if I have time, I will attend tea ceremony or play go (Japanese chess) with my bodyguard. And once in a week, I go to take violin lesson," she stopped for a while. "Ah, I also like fencing, by the way." |
