I'm the best! I'm the king of me! I'm gonna eat chips out of the garbage!

((OOC: this is really shitty but fuck you it's 3 am don't tell me how to write good ascensions))

Itsuki Susaki sat in his hospital bed, reading the latest issue of some manga magazine to himself. He'd been there for quite some time now, and he had finally been able to sleep all the way through the night on his own. He didn't speak about what had happened to him to cause his condition, and the causes remained unknown to the police and his parents. Kaede knew the full details, but she refused to tell.

She walked into the room, carrying a bag with her. Itsuki looked up and blinked. "You got your hat back."

"Yeah, uh... long story. I'll tell you later."

"Does it involve your tiny dick boyfriend?"

"His name's Kaji, we're not dating anymore, and I don't know how big his dick is," Kaede said exasperatedly. She sat down next to Itsuki, and put the bag on his bed. "Here. I brought you some more manga. How are you feeling?"

"...My neck doesn't hurt anymore," he said. "They won't let me take the brace off, though."

Kaede shrugged. "I'd heal it for you, but..."

"You don't want to use your powers?" Itsuki guessed. Kaede nodded.

"So I guess you know just about everything now? Where I was disappearing to all those days, all that weird shit that's been happening... why I'd go all weird during the middle of the day and start painting freaky-ass shit," she said. "Your sister's actually been one of those freaky-ass monsters, and she's been seeing freaky-ass shit and tried to kill people. I tried to kill you too." She bowed her head. "I'm sorry, Itsuki."

"No, no. It's... it's okay," he said. "I don't blame you, sis."

"Well, you should." But before Itsuki could say anything else, she put a hand on her head. "Arrg, dammit. I told Kaji I'd try and not think like this anymore." She rubbed at her eyes, and Itsuki supportively put a hand on hers. "I'm trying to figure out what to do with myself now. It's pretty clear that I can't run from myself, and offing myself just isn't an option."

"If you try to do that again, I'm gonna stop you myself!" Itsuki said, and his tone was a lot more forceful than Kaede had expected, especially out of him.

"Itsuki..."

"You're important to me too, y'know! And to all of your friends too!" Itsuki said. "And maybe you did get freaky visions that told you that we were gonna die, but who cares about those! They aren't the truth! I'm still alive!"

"You idiot." She clapped him on the head, and he squeezed his eyes shut. "You don't need to tell me that. Kaji already did. But thanks..."

They talked for a while about other things, things unrelated to Personae. When they did bring up Personae, they approached the subject delicately, so she wouldn't cause Itsuki more pain. It was probably one of the most honest conversations she and her brother had in a long time.

But she couldn't get her eyes off of that neck brace. And halfway through the conversation, she asked if she could heal it. And this time, Itsuki agreed. She checked the door to make sure no nurses were coming, and put her mask on.

Pythia appeared, and for a brief moment, Kaede was afraid, afraid that the choking smoke her Persona gave off would cause her to lose control again. The room filled with a horrible heat. But she had realized something. It was fear of her Persona that had made its side effects so horrible in the first place. She let the fear melt away... and the heat left with it. She held her hand up to Itsuki's neck, and a white energy spread from her hand into his neck.

"How's it feel?" Kaede asked. Itsuki only looked up at her Persona in awe. His eyes suddenly widened, and Kaede turned around to look at her Persona. It was shining with light and smiling.

"Pythia?" Kaede asked. The Persona shook its head, and the cloak burst away from its body, revealing something new. A warrior. No, more like a knight.

"You have overcome the fear and self-doubt within you, and awakened the me inside. I am Skadi, goddess of winter and protector Norn. May our visions lead you to the truth."

The Persona soon disappeared, and Kaede remained staring at the point where it had been.

"That was cool," Itsuki said, breaking the silence. Kaede laughed.

"Yeah. Really cool."
