The world was cold. There was nothing but endless ocean as far as the eye could see, and the platform on which he was standing was made of solid ice. It was drifting at an extremely slow pace. Iemoto knelt at the platform's edge and touched the surface of the water, expecting it to be freezing cold. Deeper in the water, human silhouettes drifted alongside the iceberg, the majority of them leaving a red trail in their wake.

The boy felt a hand rest on his shoulder. Somebody behind him spoke in a raspy voice.

"Why, Iemoto ?"

The boy turned around, gasping as he recognized his interlocutor.

"Why did I have to die ?"

Blood was profusely flowing down Daisuke Kaminogure's face. A small pool was also forming at the dead man's feet.

"You know the reason why, Iemoto. So tell me."

"I... I don't..."

"Yes, yes you do, Iemoto. Why do you refuse to tell me ?"

Daisuke Kaminogure was gripping his son's shoulders as if he never intented to let go of him, ever.

"TELL ME WHY! WHY DID YOUR MOTHER HAVE TO BE INJURED ? WHY DID I HAVE TO DIE LIKE THIS ? WHY DID
YOU HAVE TO LIVE THROUGH ALL OF THIS ? WHY ?!

"Sh-Shut up !"

The screams of his father were too much for Iemoto to bear. Struggling away from his father's grip, the boy pushed the talking cadaver into the glacial sea. As he sunk into the depths of the ocean, Iemoto could see his father's lips artciculate something.

your
fault

Shivering, the boy walked to the other extremity of the ice platform. For an unknown reason, it was speeding up, and a sound ressembling a continous growl could be heard in the distance. Perhaps more surprisingly, a man was now standing there, his black coat billowing in the wind. Iemoto couldn't make out the man's traits, but he could at least tell that the stranger possessed shoulder-lenght black hair. The stranger pointed at some point in the distance, and Iemoto's eyes widened.

A gigantic whirlpool, big enough to swallow even the largest of ships. The ice platform was getting dangerously close to the swirling vortex, but this didn't seem to bother the black-clad stranger at all. Iemoto was powerless as the platform began to swirl around the whirlpool, getting closer to the hole in the ocean with each circle.

As the platform fell into the vortex, Iemoto closed his eyes. As he felt the floor giving way under him, a hand grabbed him by the leg. The stranger was hovering over the howling whirlpool, holding him upside-down.

"Tch" the stranger muttered, "Pathetic."

With another disdainful sigh, he released Iemoto.

Iemoto woke up panting. With a panicked expression, he looked around. Seeing his comatose mother lying in her hospital bed, he ran out of her hospital room and out of the hospital itself. The nurses gave him bewildered look as he fled through the hallways.

He wanted to be anywhere but in this hospital.
