"No kidding," was what Kyo said; You have no idea was what she actually thought. Hell, she had pretty much been placed under house arrest for an entire year at the end there...

All that time she could have been spending with Ken before he--

She mentally shook herself to derail that train before it could build steam. It never put her in a good mood, thinking of her parents. She cast around for a change of topic, and found one as they walked.

"Ah, we're here!" she said breathlessly, and broke into a jog. Wild-duck Burger, at last! Bacony goodness, please don't come without me! she thought, Because I am right here, and my body is ready for you!

But she checked herself in her eagerness and slowed back down to a walk, looking back at Hotaru. It was kind of surreal, being able to talk about herself so freely with someone she'd only just met. Even with the friends she'd had back in Osaka, she'd never opened up until they'd known each other a while. And in the end, none of them had understood. When he'd died, they--they'd all tried to cheer her up by saying there were better guys waiting out there for her anyway, no need to waste tears on the town scrub.

She wondered if they cared at all about the fact that she hadn't answered a single one of their calls or texts since moving to Nagashima. Probably not...

Maybe Hotaru was different, she thought. It was worth putting bacony goodness on hold for a bit to find out, at any rate, wasn't it?

Grinning like a kid at the toystore, she said, "You comin'?" and turned back around, heading to the door again--this time at a fast walk.

don't stare at it too long

Hotaru looked up at the local resturant chain, hoping that no one else she knew would happen to be inside the building as well.
"Yeah, let's go for it." She nodded.

Kyo's grin faltered a bit, glancing back again. It seemed like there was a touch of trepidation in Hotaru's manner, but maybe she was imagining it. Nevertheless, she laughed and turned back around, approaching the restaurant at a brisk but reasonable pace. She almost burst in without Hotaru but caught herself in time, holding the door open for her new friend as she approached.

And then it was just a matter of finding a table and placing their orders. And then waiting. That part, however brief, would be torture... but it was fine. She had someone to talk to this time, so it would go a bit faster.
