Oh my God, I LEFT THE STOVE ON AT HOME!

Michiko walked into Takashi Kuono's classroom. Shinta had recently gotten into some deep shit for beating up a bully, and a meeting with one of the teachers who broke up the fight was arranged. Shinta had opted to go run off to God-Knows-Where instead of attend the meeting with his mother. The slightly drunken mother of the Banchou King looked around the room. It was seemingly empty. "Erm....hello? Is Mister Kuono here?" She pulled out a student's chair and looked down at the graffiti carved into the desk: 'FREAKS MUST DIE', 'MONSTERS GO HOME', etc. Michiko sighed. The whole magic business was all anyone talked about anymore.

Takashi could smell it. The mother was slightly drunken and there was no father there. Well. He never was. Mr. Watanbe never there. He never bothered to ask. Maybe he was off drinking something great or something. Maybe he was off rotting in a prison somewhere. Or maybe he was dealing with Shinta already. Nah. Probably abandonment like the other fifty billion cases in Nagashima. If the father had gotten the son into proper order, then he wouldn't be having this fucking conversation when he could be doing other things. Better things. Like getting home.

The man walked over to the desk that the woman was situated near. He grunted and pointed to his desk at the corner of the room. Stationed so that he could see the entrance to the shop and the entrance to the classroom along with the rest of the room. With the way that the room was furnished, it was also the perfect place for him to yell at people from.

"Let's take the talking there."

The man picked up the soiled desk, putting it onto his shoulder as he walked over to his larger, personal desk. Setting the graffitied item aside, he sat at his desk and beckoned for the woman to sit at a hand-crafted wooden chair that sat directly opposite the desk. One of the Woodshop II kids made it. Got full marks for that particular project, too.

"...You're drunk."

"Nah, just a little buzzed~." replied Michiko, giving Takashi a warm smile. "So, what exactly happened? Shinta didn't exactly want to give me the frame-by-frame recap of the fight." Michiko fidgeted in her seat, remembering how Shinta used to be...a sharp contrast to how he acted now.

"Need a ride home? It wouldn't be right for me to let you hit the road like that," Takashi said as he shuffled through some old papers. He intended to match up that handwriting with the culprit's and then give them hell. Standard Kouno procedure.

"Your kid's very good at this whole getting-into-deep-shit thing. I'd almost be impressed if it didn't piss me off so much," Takashi grumbled. "I'd be polite, but I think that we've been here enough that I don't need to mince any words."

He started to shift through some of the papers, alternating between glancing at the mother and working out the handwriting. "He took on a couple of kids near where we keep the recyclables and the trash. Today was plastics day, so Shinta was taking the plastics out for his science class. I guess he thought it would be fun to take on four kids who were also taking it out. Knowing the other kids, I'm pretty damn certain that Shinta was the one who started it."

"Oh, that would be lovely~." said Michiko. This teacher of Shinta's seemed like a real gentleman, and not too shabby looking either. Michiko frowned when she heard that Takashi thought Shinta started it. "...are you sure? From what little Shinta did tell me, it sounded like the kid he beat up was giving some other student a hard time."

"Really, now," Takashi said as he looked over a shop log. Not that one either. He sighed. "I really doubt that Mijima or Takase would have anything to do with it, meatheads that they are. Groupies more than anything. If Shinta wasn't pulling shit off, then Arita is the most likely one to have started it. It would mean that Shinta launched himself into someone else's shit."

Picking up another sheet, he started to glance it over. "And it was kids. Plural. Arita was the first attacked and Mijima is a friend of his. That's how he got pulled in. As for Mitoma's and Takase's involvement... Anyone's guess really. I didn't get personally involved, so I'm only going off of what I've seen. There's a busted nose, a black eye, a missing tooth, and a broken arm somewhere in that story. He's been getting in more scraps than before. It doesn't sit right with me."

Michiko sighed. "Shinta used to be such a sweet boy...I wish he'd go back to being like that." The memories of the day Shinta snapped out and attacked a trio of bullies came back to her, and she went quiet for a moment.

"Yeah, well he doesn't seem to be so sweet now, does he?" Takashi said. He wanted to continue, but the woman had the divulge-your-kid's-backstory tone to her voice. As a seasoned and accomplished teacher, Takashi knew that it was better to hear it out than shut it down. Even if he was pretty much certain that he knew the story. "Grew up in the back streets and got the living shit beaten out of me" was a common Taiyoutono tale. One that many a nimrod shared.

"So what made him end up this way?" Takashi asked the question almost grudgingly.

"...he was constantly getting bullied. Other kids would beat him up every day. Maybe it was because they weren't appreciative of how nice he was to everyone. But every day, he'd come home with bruises, bloody noses, even black eyes. I tried to tell him to get help, but he'd always tell me he'd be alright. When he got into junior high, I guess he just thought that enough was enough."

Michiko looked down at her hands, as if feeling guilty.

"I got a call from the administration that Shinta had lashed out at three bullies and stole their wallets. Next thing I know, he's building a gang of delinquents and getting into more and more fights..."

Michiko looked back up at Takashi, blushing in embarrassment. "I-I'm sorry for dumping this all on you..."

Takashi felt his eye twitch a bit after hearing Shinta's backstory. "What's done is done... But in that situation, I would have gone ahead and got some help. Call some teachers and some staff. Nagashima's writhing in delinquency, so there's little you can do to prevent it. But have some faith in the schooling system. They could do a lot more than some grade schooler on their own."

He grunted at the apology and focused on his papers. By now, he had a steadily growing pile of possible candidates. A good portion of the stack had been sifted through, but there was still a portion left. He could easily deal with that during an off-period. "Don't worry about it too much. Everyone needs to get something off their chests every once in a while."

Setting the papers down, he massaged his forehead and faced Michiko directly. "I see that your kid is trying to be some sort of 'knight of the backstreets,' but you know as well as I do that this can't go on. Does Shinta have any extracurricular activities?"
