Into the Dungeon

The lowest part of the school was physically built into a nearby hill. Jokingly called "the Dungeon," it housed the wood shop and metal shop as well as all of the tools, heavy machinery and equipment that needed storage. There few classrooms for the more outdoorsy and physical class here, like the environmental sciences and the engineering courses. Out of the teachers in the Dungeon, Takashi was by the most experienced, so he would end up subbing quite frequently for them whenever they had stuff going on.

Right now, he was standing at the entrance to the wood shop, waiting for a certain dumbass. It was the end of the day and he had sent off some office aid to give him the message that he was going to be cooped up in detention effectively right the fuck now. That was what it said verbatim.

The wanna-be king of delinquents slowly poked his head in. Shinta could feel something wasn't right; he could feel it the moment he noticed the colorful verbatim of the detention slip. I can sense a storm coming, boss. said Ziusudra. I realize that, thought Shinta, addressing his Persona. Now pipe down. The banchou cleared his throat, currently displaying the meeker side of him, the one usually kept very much private, especially from the members of Stampede. "You, er, wanted to see me?"

Takashi looked at the boy with an flat expression. "No, I didn't want to see you. But you still have to be here, regardless. Frankly, that shit you pulled on the forum is ridiculous. You're going to have to learn cause-and-effect at some point in your short, degenerate life, so let this be your first lesson."

Shinta's eyes immediately looked down to his feet. "Sorry, Takashi-Sensei. I-I just don't quite understand this whole Persona business, and when I heard that people were attacking Persona users, it just...bothered me."

"Which is exactly a valid reason to make them hate us more, right?" Takashi said, shaking his head at the boy. He shoved his hands in his pockets and turned to walk over to the woodshop. "You're going to have to learn to chill the fuck out if you want to get anywhere in life, kid. What are you going to do after you graduate from high school, huh?"

Shinta shrugged, scratching the back of his head. He didn't really have a big goal for his life besides just making a reputation for himself. "I'unno, get a job at a factory or something."

"And who would hire the fearsome King of Banchou, Watanabe? What are you going to write on you resume? 'Job experiences: I beat the shit out of everyone who happens to annoy me.' People aren't going to care whether or not you're being a hero by fighting off the big, bad hate-gangs. You happen to be a Persona User, and on top of that, you're in a gang. At the rate you're going, the only 'job or something' that you're gonna land is yakuza," Takashi said, pausing to glare at the boy. He turned away and continued to walk, reaching a corner of the woodshop where the brooms, dustpans, and other cleaning materials were stored. "You wanted the Persona training? Well here. I'm not going to give you any of that wax-on-wax-off bullshit. You are here to clean off the sawdust and shit out of this entire room."

He gestured towards the large woodshop. The scent of sawdust was heavy in the air and it was quite clearly visible on some of the more frequently used machines. "If you can use your Persona to help you clean up, then feel free to use it. But let me say this: each one of those machines costs more than your worth as a human being. If you manage to break one, then I'll be expecting you to sell your kidney in order to pay for it."

"Use my Persona to clean up the sawdust? Sounds kinda Karate Kid if you ask me." chuckled Shinta. He closed his eyes and focused on forming a tiny cyclone in the middle of the room to start sucking the sawdust towards it. A small green cyclone began to appear, only about a couple inches tall. However, it was way too weak to do anything; almost as soon as it appeared, it dissipated, a faint breeze crawling across the sawdust-covered floor. Shinta sweatdropped "Crap. I can't keep it focused on one spot." groaned the delinquent. He sighed in defeat and went for a broom. Don't tell me you're giving up now, boss! protested Ziusudra. Shinta gripped the broom, thinking. Maybe, just maybe, if he charged the broom itself with a Garu, he could blow all the sawdust to one corner of the room in a single sweep...

"Alright, kid. Now remember. Kidneys," Takashi said as he sat down, putting his goggles and a facemask on as he took to cleaning one of the wood lathes. He glanced briefly at Shinta. "Watanabe, in case you were wondering, the point of this shit isn't to get it done as fast as you fucking can because (1) it will be sloppy (2) you will break something (3) you won't learn jackshit about controlling your Persona. So control yourself."

"Yes, Takashi-sensei..." sighed Shinta. At that moment, he remembered something. He reached into his back pocket and pulled out a wallet, holding it up for the teacher to see. "Hey, do you think you could find the kid this belonged to? I saw a bully lift it off of someone."
