"... do not call me -chan, Edward-san. However, if it will aid in my integration to society, I will consent to a conversation. Since you're the one who proposed the idea itself, perhaps you had a topic of conversation?" Alexis countered with an exasperated sigh. In all honesty, the man was right about how the past was currently irrelevant. She needed to integrate into this society in order to hide herself while attempting to contact her 'family'. That was her mission, and she would complete it any way possible.

Even if it meant talking to this insufferable man.

Edward could sense annoyance in her tone, and Edward's smirk widened even more. Perhaps she was thinking that he was insufferable, and she was mostly right. "Well then. What do you think about this town?" he asked.

"Nagashima is different." Alexis began, looking around the crowded area as she gathered her thoughts. The information she'd collected had proven that much, to say the least. "It's full of conflict, in spite of the seemingly peaceful surface. It has a thriving Yakuza population, strange incidents and then there are the rumours of monsters in the park. Those rumours also seem to make people who talk about them tense, nervous. I wonder, are they afraid because people died in the incident that spawned these bizarre rumours?" The young woman sighed. "I do not know myself, seeing as I'm used to death and cannot relate. Regardless, this place seems to be built upon conflict." A small smile wormed its way onto Alexis' face at the thought of battle.

"I think I will enjoy my time here."

"Ah, of course you will, Alexis. You will enjoy your time here," there, another player had entered the fray. He had to wonder whether she might involve herself in larger schemes around this town, or got involved in entirely different matter. Time would tell. "But you forgot to mention something, Alexis. It is true that this place seems to be built upon conflict, but don't forget that conflict is often paired with hope and sentiment. Without them, conflict will never exist..."

"Let's say if you can see by yourself the truth about this town..." Edward wondered aloud. "I wonder what will happen..." he said gleefully. "Will your involvement change the course of events that already happened and will happen in this town? Time will eventually tell..."

"... you are speaking in riddles, Edward-san." Alexis spoke as she glanced over at the killer, her eyes narrow. What did he mean, the truth about this town? Was there some sort of secret about Nagashima? And his words about how conflict could not exist without hope and sentiment... she did not understand. Hope and sentiment often led to conflicts, but they had no place on the battlefield. The only things that mattered on the battlefield were completion of your mission and the survival of your squadmates so that they may perform on future missions. Sentiment for friends or family, hope about survival... none of it played a role, the young woman told herself. Certainly, there was a small part of her who thought they had everything to do with it, but she was a soldier. A heart was too much of a burden, and was merely an obstacle for her mission.

"... it matters not whether I affect anything in this town. I will survive, and I will fight to complete my mission." Alexis muttered, a determined look entering her eyes. "For I am a soldier."

"For what purpose a soldier exists?" Edward asked. "Is it due to the battlefields? If it is, then for what purpose a battlefield exists?" he grinned. Recently, he liked speaking in riddles, due to unknown reasons. "For those who never wish to seek the truth behind all things involved, they're nothing but mere pawns."

"You're a soldier, and you take orders," Edward said, pointing at Alexis. "And I am a mercenary. A mercenary also takes orders, but for different reasons. A mercenary often works alone, like a lone wolf. A mercenary tends to do things that have no relation to what they always do, compared to a soldier who's always straight-faced and sour, just like you," he chuckled as he said that. "That's why a mercenary tends to learn many things after fighting in countless battles. They're free to think. A soldier, in the other hand, they just take orders and fight," he spread both his arms. "No character development, no understanding, just plain... and boring... no offense, really."

"Is there any difference between a mercenary and a soldier, really? We are the same, in essence. I am the same as a mercenary who exercises discipline, and you are like a rebellious soldier. To argue this point is to argue many points. And I did learn on the battlefield, Edward-san. I learned everything I know on the battlefield." Alexis countered, her own logic seeming sound to her. However, even she questioned it to some extent, which made her worry inside. Is what this man was saying true? Could it be that she was... It cannot be. I musn't let myself be swayed by his riddles and words.

"It does not matter if you think I am boring, or do not understand something. That is not my place. I kill, and I complete my missions. That is my existance laid bare."

"Well, suit yourself," Edward grinned. "But, it's just a matter of perspective, so I don't mind if you have different view if compared to me. Different ideas and understandings are the things that make this world revolves, after all..." he said in such sagely manner.

"I dunno why, but I'm getting a little bit sick here. You sound like an old wizard from that wizard novel. Can I laugh now?"

"Shut up, you son of a bitch."

"I resent that..."

"Stop it already. Your vague words and half-meanings sicken me." Alexis snarled out, her face dropping the emotionless facade as she turned on Edward, eyes narrowed with anger. The soldier's hand were clenched as her eyes burned with anger, contempt and some small amounts of fear as she looked towards the man. "It is people like you, the naive kind, that sicken me. Humanity cannot understand one another, we merely betray and hurt each other. There is nothing to gain from trying in a futile manner to understand, when all that happens by trying is bloodshed and war, and even then people like us are despised for our actions." Turning away from the man, she shook her head, blue and purple strands flying through the air and began to walk away swiftly.

"This conversation is over. Good day to you."

"Well, I think I made her pissed," Edward thought. But he just shrugged. "Well, have a fine day, Alexis. I'm sorry for being such a dick for you," he said as the woman turned to leave. "I don't know what happened to you, but I've seen hell many times. I'm sick of it already. Death no longer frightens me. So I don't appreciate being called naive by the likes of you..." for a split second, he show an expression he usually displayed to those who would become his prey during his missions. Words couldn't describe how his expression looked like, but it was enough to instill fear of death to those who were put into his mercy, and he never gave his victims mercy. Then his expression reverted back to normal.

Regardless of his words, Edward kept his amiable smile. "Well, I guess I'm sorry for all these vague stuff. I hope you like the rice cakes I suggested..." whether the woman might leave or not, he would have to find it out. "Ah, if you're bored or else, feel free to seek me. I'm free anytime. And I promise, no more vague stuff..." he said, grinning.
