Civilians were always an oddity to Alexis, with their endless need for things that they did not require to survive and their obsession with shopping. The young woman was, herself, unaffected by the noise of the crowds as she mulled over her thoughts, mechanically manuevering around families and couples as she walked. Another oddity about civilian life was their incessant need for extravagant structures to house their shops, as well as the advertising mannerisms they used. Surely it was unpleasant to constantly have products shoved into your face without any warning? Dismissing this thought, the soldier soon found her itinerary, namely a small food stand. "... I do not recognise any of this food..." The woman muttered as she glanced over the menu, her freshly dyed hair being brushed away from her face, Alexis having forgotten to put it into her usual ponytail. Having been practically raised on military rations, she was unfamiliar with most civilian food, and right now was left staring at the menu with a slight frown, having no clue about what to get for sustenance. Integrating into civilian life was more difficult than her initial mission plan (made by herself) predicted. |

"Hmm... they sure have a lot of Japanese foods here," Edward muttered, looking into the menu. Like usual, he wore his fur-trimmed trenchcoat and leather pants. Contrary to his appearance, Edward was quite a food lover due to his fondness towards cooking. Stroking his chin, he just read the menu while ignoring the woman standing beside him. "Maybe I should try making one at home," he muttered again. Despite being a mercenary and an assassin, cooking had become his hobby. "I guess I can make one," he nodded to himself, once again ignoring the woman standing beside him. |

"Hm..." Furrowing her brow, Alexis ignored the muttering of the man next to her. Giving the menu one final look over, she decided to just order something random. She was about to go up to order, but now she glanced to the figure standing next to her, appraising him briefly. Something told the young soldier that this man was more than he seemed, call it intuition if you must. Gesturing, she spoke to the man. "You may order first, sir. I'm still uncertain of what to order, and do not wish to make you wait." |

"Huh?" Edward looked at the woman beside him. "Oh, no, that's quite alright. You can buy first," he said. "Go on, don't mind me so much. But if you're wondering, you can order this," he pointed at Japanese rice cake in the menu. "It's quite delicious, you know?" he said to the woman. |

"... thank you, sir." Alexis replied as the man declined her offer, her posture stiffening as she offered a slight nod of thanks. Walking over to the counter, she ordered the rice cake and paid, being served her food a short time later. Stepping away from the counter, she took a bite of her food and blinked in surprise briefly. This was... quite good, for civilian food. In fact, it was far better than military rations in terms of taste, although its nutrient content was questionable. Regardless, the young woman continued to eat the food, finding it was enough to satisfy her hunger. "... most agreeable..." She muttered to herself, a small twitch of her lips occuring. |

"So, how is it?" Edward asked the woman after he purchased his food. "Is it good?" "Well, this is quite new. I never thought I'd be this friendly before..." Edward thought. Ever since knowing that he would die soon due to his tuberculosis, he felt something inside him changing. |

"... yessir." Alexis' face fell back into its usual business-like state, glancing at the man with her dark blue eyes. "I must thank you for your suggestion, sir. I am unfamiliar with civi- I mean, Japanese cuisune." The young woman looked away and stared at various people in the crowd, her mind processing the noise and movement with ease, having grown up around louder and more frantic behaviour. It was interesting how these people craved the noise, the movement, when they had something that was completely unknown to the young woman. They had peace, that illusive state bought with the blood of people like herself. It was... odd to be among them. "... is there something you wanted, sir?" The young woman asked the man, glancing at him again as she came back into reality once more. |

"No, it's nothing," Edward smiled. "I'm just wondering something..." he said. "You don't look like a normal woman. Your posture, the way you talk and your movement..." he noted the difference he saw from this woman. "It'd be peculiar to see such kind of things from a normal civilian. You look like someone who had taken military trainings, or being in military itself..." he shrugged. "Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I'm judging from the things I see..." |

"..." Alexis was calm and cold on the outside, but inside she was shocked that someone had so accurately identified the fact she had military training. Eyes narrowing slightly, although barely noticable, the young woman tried her best to restrain her self-anger at failing to pass as a civilian. YEt, as she thought about it, she calmed down. No one else seemed to think of her as anything but a polite yet highly strung young woman. At least, no one had pointed out she acted like a soldier. But this man... how peculiar. His threat estimation rose in Alexis' mind, and the young woman turned to face him. "... yes, I have had training... what of it, sir?" It was risky, divulging even this much of her past, but she was currently safe from any hostile forces who had any grudges against her. At least, she was fairly certain of this fact, from the reconnaissance she'd briefly done while choosing Nagashima as her destination. |

"Oh, it's nothing," Edward shrugged again. "It's just that I tend to say the things that cross my mind. Not a good habit, I'd say, but I guess I'm right this time," he said, ruffling his blonde hair. "Oh, don't be alarmed, baby," the assassin raised both his hands, grinning apologetically. "I don't mean to say something offensive," he said. "Well, I do say something offensive sometimes, but you're unique, missy..." he told the woman. "It's been a while since I saw someone like you." "Care for a walk?" |
