Rio sat curled in her chair, reading through the rough draft of an article on the current string of problems with the library. She continuously flipped over a pill bottle in her left hand as she read. As soon as it was time to leave, she was going to pop one: gel capsules packed with mescaline. They were impossible to get, but she had finally found someone who had a hook-up.

Which is what made the reading so bitter. It wasn't just bad it was sophomoric. And that was something she wasn't about to stand.

"Fujimoto!" she called out.

The boy didn't respond, so Rio got up and left her office, finding the large boy divvying up the carton of lucky sevens that the newspaper club held in common.

"What is it, Kaicho?"

"Did you not even interview anyone for this piece?"

"I need to interview people?" Fujimoto asked, "I thought I could just make it up?"

"No, you can, you just need to interview before you make it up. That's called 'due dilligence.'"

Rin, the tall, ostrich-like girl, coughed, and said, "I don't know if that's what it means, Kaicho."

"I say it's what it means, so it's what it means in this office."

"So you want me to...?"

"Write it again. Go."

The large boy sighed, and began to head for the door.

As Fujimoto exited the door to the room, Oriyama jolted, the creaking of the door bringing him out of his thoughts. He inched backwards slowly as the other boy made his exit and slowly drifted over to the door. He peeked in and knocked. Two light taps. "U-u-um... This is... the j-j-journalis-s room?"

Rio sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. Great, Fujimoto wasn't here. It was a slow day, so it was just her and Rin, and now a stutterer had showed up. This meant that there was no one to act as a doorman, and Rin was too timid to do it, herself. Acid temper with people she knew, scared witless of people she didn't.

Rio glanced over at the boy looking through the door.

"We don't do personal ads," she preempted, hoping to cut him off, "Or want ads. We don't do ads of any kind."

"Ah-ha-um... No... N-Not loo-ooking f-for ads, no. F-f-frinformation..." he gulped slowly and gasped a bit at the effort of interaction. The boy cast a sidelong glance at her and looked down. The boy licked his lips and shifted his hands in his pockets. "A-about... Th-things."

As the boy talked, Rio made a wheeling motion with her right hand, circling it in a "go on" or perhaps a "go faster" gesture.

"Well, we do distribute information. Was one of our articles not satisfactory?"

Rio scanned the boy. There was a persona there, buried deep. Great. She adjusted her hat, and sighed.

"You get back to work, I'll handle this."

Rin shuddered, and turned back to her computer; Rio pointed towards her office.

The boy shook his head vehemently at the girl. "Your articles are g-good. Just..." He shifted something in one of his pockets. He quickly darted into Rio's office when the girl indicated for him to move. He stood awkwardly in the corner, waiting for the editor to join him.

Rio took her time, pausing to look over Rin's shoulder just long enough that it was obvious she wasn't going in immediately. Then, she followed him in, sliding behind the large desk, she settled in, and leaned back, but did not kick up her feet.

"So. What do you need?" she asked.

She debated whether or not to scan him, but didn't know what that would accomplish. Did she really want to know if this young man had a persona? Would the thought that he might have a screaming monster in his head make dealing with him any more pleasant?

"Um..." he reached into his blazer and fumbled to get some photographs out. He splayed them out onto the desk. A girl without her arms slowly being enveloped by a mask. Two others doing the same. Flashes of white as blasts of energy were fired. "Is this... ah... really special ef-ef-effects?"

Rio looked down at the pictures. She almost swallowed her tongue and immediately launched into a blustery lie. Best to respond with false cynicism, she decided.

"What the hell is this? Are you learning how to use photoshop, or something?"

She tossed the photos back to the boy.

"You expect me to believe that you were just carrying a camera around in the park when someone turned in to some kind of armless monster and went on a rampage? And that you calmly snapped off not one but three photographs? Get real."

"U-um..." he gulped as he began to lift one of his sleeves. There was an area where the surface-level arteries had burst, leaving behind a reddish-purple tint to the skin. The boy shifted his eyes around. "W-well... Y-y'see... I look-kuh-kuh-kuhed up th-this sort of injury... um..."
