A smile slowly crept its way out as Satosu went on. She knew others had problems far more severe than hers- part of her frustration was that something so minor could affect her so badly- but hearing someone else call her stable was reassuring in its own way.

The plenty of fish in the sea comment made her stiffen and look away slightly. She knew that was true, too, but that didn't make it any less unpleasant a subject. It almost distracted her from his compliment regarding her ability to pick someone up, and more importantly, the following question.

"Why?" Kira tilted her head a bit and thought, taking a bite of sandwich to stall until she could put words to the matter. "My parents used to say that love was something that didn't have ties to reason. Part of me believes that." The brunette thought a bit more on the subject. "But if I had to choose a reason... well, there are a lot, actually."

"Ryouta's... kind. He's sweet. He's the type of person who would try to move heaven and earth if it would make everyone happy. He's funny, friendly, almost kind of pure in how he acts and thinks. He doesn't ask for anything but gives so much. He's afraid at times, but even then he won't run if it would hurt someone."

"Part of me wanted to protect that, to act in a way that rewarded him for all he does, but I don't think a mothering instinct is what was at play here. I think, most of all... I admired him. Envied him too, to an extent." She nodded certainly. Knowing it would sound crazy, she continued.

"We're talking about a guy who puts up with so much shit on a regular basis, none of which he deserves, and he copes. Maybe not in a healthy way, and not through absolutely everything, but he simply would not stay down no matter how hard the world seemed intent on ruining his life for no reason. I love him because despite it all, he is still kind and pure, and... hmm." She suddenly looked less certain, taking another bite from her meal.

"I just... want to be near him. Partially because I want to be that strong, sure, but I think there's more to it than that. Something I'm having trouble putting to words." She sighed. "I didn't go into the relationship for the right reasons, I don't think. I literally picked up the first guy who showed interest in me, because it was reassuring. After we'd been together for a while, though, the reassurance wasn't what interested me anymore."

Now she was racking her brain for an answer. There was more to it, but for all her thinking she couldn't come up with a way to convey it.

Love didn't have a reason? It was Satosu's turn to freeze and look away slightly, although it was significantly less noticeable with him. Love wasn't exactly a thing he enjoyed thinking about these days. Regardless, it wasn't his problems that were on parade, and it certainly wasn't likely that he'd reveal everything happening to Kira. He likely wouldn't go much further than revealing that he was cheating on Miyuki before she chewed him out.

Asking why she loved Ryouta was, essentially, stalling for time. Satosu honestly didn't know what to say other than to get over him. After she stopped speaking, Satosu decided to give her some advice.

"Honestly, I'd just stay away from him for a bit. Ryouta's a nice guy, yeah, but if you keep hanging out with him, even as friends, he's just going to cloud your mind constantly." He shrugged. "I don't think Ryouta really understands romance at this point in his life anyway. Cliche line, but it's not you; it's him." He didn't want to say it, but the subtext was there: she had very little chance of getting back together with Ryouta.

"Get a hobby, throw yourself into your job; heck, try finding a new boyfriend. Just distance yourself from Endo-kun." He smiled encouragingly. "This phase of your life will pass eventually. All wounds heal with time."

"..." Was all Kira could add to the matter at hand. She had been staying away from Ryouta for the time being, but she still found her thoughts drifting back to him from time to time. Still, it was reassuring to hear it wasn't her fault. "...yeah. I wonder if he even knows what the birds and the bees are?" She thought back to all the times Sora had not so subtly flirted with the unlucky boy to get tips that went straight over his head and chuckled. He really was too young to be in a relationship, just mentally rather than physically.

Throwing herself into her job wouldn't work; Ryouta had many of the same shifts she did. Her grades WERE a bit lacking, though... A hobby wasn't a bad idea either- she had watched her entire collection at least twice by that point, which said something. Maybe she could volunteer to be work a camera at the next drama club meeting?

The suggestion to try getting a new boyfriend, however, made her cringe visibly. Too soon. Wouldn't be fair to the other person. Part of her lurched angrily at the idea it was just a phase, but her logical side immediately agreed. She'd get over it. "...Thanks, Satosu." Taking a small bite of her lunch, she sighed through her nose. In truth, had her situation really improved? Was that anything she hadn't thought of before?

Hearing a second opinion from an outside source does wonders, Kira. The teen nodded. "I think having someone else say it helps."

Right. No new boyfriend. Bad idea, Satosu. Bad idea.

Satosu smiled. "Of course, I'm not saying anything revolutionary here. You've probably thought this already, right?" Stepping forward, he gently patted her on the back. "See? You're already much better prepared to cope than most of the girls here."

The bell rang, and Satosu raised his eyebrows. "Already?" Well, shit. Now he had to head to class... which was on the other side of the school. Wonderful. "I gotta run, Kameko-san, but cheer up, alright?" He gave a little wave before leaving. "Later."
