WHERE THE FUCK IS MARIO
|
Akiko hadn't been able to pin down Kaji, seeing as he was always either working or when he wasn't doing that he was hiding. The Cowboy walked into school, waiting by the class he was scheduled to come out of. He wasn't wearing his duster, but his hat was on his head. The one Kaji got him for Christmas. It was slowly becoming one of his favorites. He leaned against the wall and waited for class to end. He didn't have any lessons at the moment, so waiting for Kaji was what he had planned to do. He had some things he needed to talk to him about. Mostly seeing if he was back to how he was before. Akiko didn't believe in second chances, but Kaji seemed to be a changed man. |

Classes. Work. Homework. Training. Sleep. These were the only things on Kaji's mind, so apologizing to his friends had gotten slowly pushed out of his schedule. He was fairly sure that it was due to his own cowardice. Not all of them would forgive him. He'd hurt most of them deeply, and the fear of rejection kept him sticking to his schedule. In the back of his head, Kaji knew that he'd have to go apologize eventually. Of course, with Akiko, it seemed as though he didn't have much of a choice. Kaji stood like a deer in headlights when he saw Akiko standing near his class, and worse yet, the cowboy appeared to be looking right at him. Kaji was rendered mostly speechless for a moment. "... H-Hideyoshi-san." |

Akiko kept up that look, but slowly broke into a more neutral stare. "Okawa-san. Can we talk somewhere? I got some things I want to say to you." He didn't bother mincing his words. This was the first time he had spotted Kaji in a long time. He shifted from left to right and tipped his hat a bit lower. "Don't worry. I'm not carrying anything." |

Kaji stared at Akiko for a few more seconds before breaking off eye contact. What was he going to say? Was he going to scold him? Ask to be friend again? Kaji honestly had no idea. Mentally cursing his social ineptitude, Kaji nodded slowly. "... Alright." He couldn't meet Akiko's gaze. It probably was going to be a scolding: one that he deserved completely. Maybe Akiko was lying, and he was going to shoot him or something. Either way, Kaji felt as though he had to go. "Where should we talk?" |

Akiko scratched his chin. "How bout the roof? I'm pretty sure there won't be anyone on the roof." The cowboy walked towards the roof and turned to add one last thing. "I meant nothing. I don't even have my knives. I figured you'd get skittish if I brought my weapons. I'm here to talk Kaji, not to fight." The cowboy didn't want to repeat himself so many times, but Kira had said he needed to enforce he was his friend. "A'ight, lets get goin." Akiko walked towards the stairs, waiting for his friend to follow. |

Kaji said nothing in response to Akiko, even when he reaffirmed that he was carrying no weapons. Which Kaji doubted greatly. Awkward relationship or not, Akiko was still Akiko. Even if he thought he wasn't carrying any weapons, he'd likely forgotten and still had a knife stuck in his boot somewhere. Regardless, Kaji nodded and continued to follow the cowboy to the roof. |

The roof was serenely peaceful for once. It gave Akiko the chance he needed to talk to Kaji. As he waited for the boy to make his way to the top of the stairs he leaned against an air conditioner. He had his hands crossed and he was thinking something over. Was it really right to judge him for his actions? It was, but wasn't his shadow the same? Needlessly violent? He sighed. The Cowboy had come to talk not to solve problems with violence. It only made more problems in the long run. |

The second Kaji got onto the roof, he took a deep breath and faced Akiko. Better now than never. Making sure no one was around to see it, Kaji went down to his knees and lowered his head in a deep bow. "I'm sorry." He paused. He hadn't thought of much beyond those two words, and they clearly wouldn't be cutting it, so then, he continued. "I-I know that doesn't mean much, and you won't forgive me, but I'm sorry." He stayed in the bow, not looking up at Akiko. "I-I was wrong. A-and my reasons for attacking you -no, betraying everyone- were foolish and selfish." Kaji stood back up, still not meeting the cowboy's gaze, instead going back down into a bow again, although he stayed on his feet. "I'm... t-trying to make up for my actions and become someone worthy of forgiveness, but until then..." He stood back up, looking Akiko in the eye. His expression indicated no hint of lying. "I'm sorry." |

...He wasn't expecting that. The Cowboy allowed the bowing to play out before cracking a grin. "I wanted to say that, when I was beaten and Kaede found me, I noticed I had bandages. She didn't carry no bandages, least that's what I think." He closed his eyes and thought things over. "When I sat in that alleyway, I held a lot of hate, I wanted to know what you were thinking." He sighed and lowered his own head. "I wanted to apologise. I was selfish, wanting a partner, a friend. I can't say I know what happened to you before, but you must have some skeletons in your closet to have something that strong affect you." He nodded to the former vigilante and extended a hand, a bit more closer to home for Akiko. "The way I see it Kaji, we used to be almost as close as kin. But I felt like I forced that on you. You had your own problems to deal with. I kept wanting to have you have my back, when really I just wanted someone else to share with." He shook his head. "You are worthy of forgiveness. Maybe not from everyone, not just yet." He grinned at his friend. "But I forgive you and that's at least the first step, right?" |

Kaji said nothing when Akiko mentioned the bandages. He remembered that. Back then, he still hadn't fully commited to his ideals, and he had found that he just couldn't leave the cowboy there to die... of course, he couldn't have healed him, so the bandages had had to suffice. Seeing as Akiko was currently talking to him, they apparently did a pretty good job. His eyes widen as soon as Akiko said he wanted to apologize. "What?" Why was Akiko apologizing? Even when the cowboy explained himself, Kaji was shaking his head. "I... cannot forgive you, because you have no need to apologize in the first place." He ignored the extended hand for a moment. "You didn't force anything. You just... You just have bad choice in partners." The first-years behind the door began whispering to each other. "So he IS gay." "I KNEW it!" Kaji didn't hear anything. "I don't know if you're ready, but I'd be willing to become your partner again... if you'll let me." He took Akiko's hand and shook it. "Close as kin...?" That'd be nice, if Akiko agreed. Kaji was running low on family members. |
