Eiji sat in a lawn chair with a pair of sunglasses on and a glass of lemonade in his hand, waiting for his first victim.

The trap this year was simpler than some of the ones he had pulled back home, but he thought it would be satisfying, at least. Basically, as someone walked out into the courtyard, they would automatically see a 1,000 yen bill sitting on the ground in the middle of the pathway, which would draw their attention away from the almost invisible tripwire. When the trap was triggered, the victim would trip into range of a giant toy mallet that would swing around from the top of the canopy, knocking them through the other side where they would fall through a bucket of water being poured simultaneously and then fall into a bed of flour that is unnoticeable unless you look almost directly at it. The best part was, all Eiji had to do was throw a single switch and the trap would re-arm itself. He had enough buckets of water for ten victims.

It wasn't as intricate as he would have liked (he would have rather had eggs than water), but he had been spending so much time in the ruins, he didn't have the time to design a better one.

There wouldn't be many people in the school now, which he was banking on; it was after school and most people were in their club rooms, which had afford Eiji the time to put this thing together. Ideally, only one or two people would come through at a time.

He glanced at his phone. About time for clubs to start disbanding. He settled into his lawn chair, hidden from the canopied walkway, and waited.

Rio rolled a spliff as she walked. No one seemed to mind that she did that on school property, though it might simply be that no one had looked close enough at it.

Being the editor was rewarding, even if Chiaki kept trying to get her to greenlight an advice column. Rio hated advice columns, and knew that if Chiaki wrote it that the overall quality of the paper would decline. Besides, the girl hadn't even followed Rio's dictum to "develop a vice."

Finishing the spliff, Rio smiled, looking down at it.

She put it to her lips, and then stopped.

There.

A thousand yen bill, just sitting out in the courtyard.

She glanced around, and then pinged with her scan. Others were about. Someone of the sun arcanum was resting nearby, but she couldn't see him. She wondered who that was.

Whistling nonchalantly, Rio walked toward the bill.

Then something tripped her, and she pitched forward, and something absurdly large, made of plastic and rubber struck her. There was a squeaking noise that accompanied that impact, though it was entirely possible that the sound came from Rio.

She staggered a bit, almost regained her balance, and was doused with water. The sheer surprise of this caused her to sit down, hard, right in a giant pile of flour.

Unsure of what just happened, Rio didn't move. She tried to recover her spliff and light it, but discovered that it had been first smashed with a large squeaking mallet, then doused with water.

"What the fuck just happened?" she finally asked no one in particular.

Eiji was out of his chair and laughing his ass off. The contraption worked about how he had thought it would which was pretty awesome, but that reaction was just priceless. He didn't stop laughing until he noticed the glass in his hand and the puddle that was now on the ground. 'Aw, my lemonade.' He put the glass down and shrugged. Too much sugar in it anyway.

He came out of the fake shrub he had fashioned out of mesh wire and leaves and walked over to the stunned student to find that he recognized her. 'Ah! Matsushida-san! From that persona party, right?' He smiled and held out his hand. 'Heh. Sorry about that. Happy April Fools Day!' He glanced at the door to the club building. 'Come on, I need to reset this thing. Want to watch this baby in action?' He ran over to the canopy and pulled hard down on a string hanging over the edge of it, pulling the mallet back up, bringing another bucket of water around, and making the trip wire taught again.

'Come on, someone might be coming soon!'

Rio spat out the remains of her spliff, and stood up, brushing herself off. She nodded to Eiji, and followed him, taking out her phone. She opened up the browser, and went into the administrative tools in Bedlam.

"Be right there," she said.

Bedlam Administration: Change User Name?

Old User Name: "Ildana5844"
New User Name: "PrettyPrettyPrincess"

"Okay, okay, where do I sit?" she asked, giving no indication that she had done anything.

[Actually April Fools is a thing in Japan, it's a recent development from American culture.

Sorry, felt the irresistable urge to add that]
