They'd gotten to the part with Jiminy Cricket, and Furai's voice seemed to synch up with it perfectly. Somehow, this seemed odd. Vaguely profane. He didn't sound anything like Jiminy Cricket was supposed to.

"Why the Hanged Man?" she asked, mostly to herself, forgetting that it wasn't a ninja-centric question.

She shook her head, clearing up a bit.

"If you're busy, how about we make arrangements for you to answer a few questions for me in a more formal fashion in the future? There have been a lot of ninja fights, lately, and if we can get the perspective of a ninja, we'd be better than the city paper, which does nothing but talk about the economy. Completely ignores everyday problems. You can ask your questions now, handle your business, then we get in contact through Bedlam, and then I ask you questions...or you can write an editorial, if you want."

The clarity began to slip.

Fuck yeah, Geppetto.

Furai froze up, catching the quiet question. His posture changed, sitting up straighter yet somehow becoming more distant. "... That's none of your business." He paused. "Little lady."

Heheh. He liked that title.

She offered him the chance to talk about ninjas, but he shook his head. "That wouldn't make much sense. Defeats the whole point of being a ninja. Sneaky and stealthy and everything." Even if he was the one currently wearing green spandex. "I'll think about it, but don't get your hopes up."

He decided that it was a good time to spring his first question. "... Did you just scan me, by the way?"

"I think so, ojiisan. It's kind of reflexive at this point. And I'm kind of...out of my head. Whenever I do this sort of thing, the scan gets...uh...a higher resolution, kind of. A bit harder to control, though. I've got three or four senses other people don't have, it's bound to get a little weird."

She stretched her neck, tilting her head as far as it would go to one side, then as far as it would go in the opposite direction.

"What did you need to know?"

Furai scratched the side of his helmet. A useless gesture, but charming. Out of her head? What did that even mean? He shook his head. Maybe it was some kind of secret thing only scanners knew about, or maybe she was just strange, or maybe...

Furai paused.

"Question one: Kid, are you on drugs?"

"Define 'drugs,'" Rio said, starting as soon as Furai began the final word of his previous statement.

She examined her hand, glancing between her fingernails and the screens.

"And that's your second question."

Furai scowled. He hated being interrupted. "Drugs. Things that put you into an altered state of mind. Hallucinogens, depressants, that sort of thing." He crossed his arms. "And don't - " She interrupted him again, noting that he had asked two questions, in fact.

Furai sighed. "Look, I'm just asking. Drugs are bad for you, little lady."

Rio froze solid, and swiveled her head to look at the masked ninja that was sitting next to her on the bench. Visually, he looked like a manga character, and now she was imagining him with the texture of paper, as a character in a manga delivering a PSA about how awful drugs were.

She watched him for a moment, not blinking, and turned her head back to the television.

"Oh? So would you count caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, anesthetics, and psychiatric medication as 'drugs'? And would those all be bad, then?"

She delivered this all while continuing to watch the movie.

"I'm not putting anything in my body that I haven't researched thoroughly."

Furai sighed. Oh god, he was talking to a hipster. He waved off the comments. "Okay, okay, fine. Not like you'll listen to me anyway. Next question... although are you sure you can answer these prop - eh. You're talking fine right now." She seemed to have it all under control, for a girl on drugs.

"... Are they german or russian?"

"They're Russians," she said, "or at least their documents are written in Cyrillic."

A group of high school girls walked between them and the televisions, and her head flopped back.

"Their leader is actually on Bedlam, but I've suspended her account. She's Russian. I can't say anything about the soldiers, though."

Furai's eyebrows raised. "On Bedlam? Did you track her IP or something?" Silly question; the persona users weren't stupid, and likely had. The russians weren't stupid either: they had probably done it from some random location or something.

Furai sighed before giving a small wave to the high school girls, some of whom giggled. He looked back at Rio. "... What do they want? Any reasons as to why they're going around kidnapping kids?" He paused. "Guesses, even?"
