I Feel Fine, Really. [Open]; I don't need to sleep.

Underneath the thin covers of the hospital bed, the third year student tossed and turned, expression contorting every few seconds. It was exactly the kind of outburst she'd been having every few minutes since they put her on the worn mattress, and in all honesty it was the same when she'd been on her own. Sleep had simultaneously become a vital resource and her worst enemy ever since her initial meeting with her shadow.

Sometimes it attacked outright, others it was content to sit back and mock her. On occasion it didn't show at all, leaving her to wander an empty facade of her apartment complex constantly looking over her shoulder. The end result was little actual rest and even less desire to get more of it. Her shadow was always happy to point out that it was her tendency to run that was making the situation so much worse, but as far as she was concerned it had no room to talk when it was encouraging it.

Kira bolted upright, finally awake. Her pupils were dilated and her hospital gown soaked with sweat. As the adrenaline slowly ebbed, the effects of her sleep deprivation set in in a deadly 1-2 combination that left her feeling like she'd been hit by a truck. A bit disconcerting, since that was what her shadow had hurled at her five seconds before she woke up. The teen searched her unfamiliar surroundings with blurry vision and half opened bloodshot eyes. The pounding headache did not help. Where am I?

She sat there for a minute or two, the blobs of white refusing to divulge any information about what they were until one started running to her side. The teen twitched when she felt a hand pressing on her shoulder, gently attempting to get her to lay down. "Easy there! You really shouldn't be up so soon." Adult male. The way he spoke showed both professionalism and reassurance. Was he a doctor? Kira let him push her back, the world finally coming into focus. Her suspicions were confirmed.

More importantly, she finally realized where she was. "What happened? Why am I here?" Alarmed, Kira patted herself down in search of any soreness or other injuries. Waking up in a hospital without recollection of how she got there was an extremely unpleasant way to start the day.

"Calm down, you're not injured." He soothed, "I'm Dr. Noah Johnson. You passed out on your feet and hit your head on the way down." The teen finally ceased her search, forcing herself to calm down. "It never ceases to amaze me how common it is for people to work themselves into a hospital on this side of the Pacific." Kira blinked. He was from the states? She would've struck up a conversation about it, had a nurse not chosen then to approach with a glass of water. It hit her then how parched she was.

"Drink up." the doctor ordered. "You've been out for about two days now." The teen nearly choked. Thankfully he had the foresight to tell her before she took a sip. "Not surprising. Sleep deprivation, juggling work and school, and whatever you've been doing to cause all those scars." Noticing her expression, he quickly waved his hands. "You don't have to tell me anything about them, though I have to admit I'm curious as to how you got so many at your age, and how the injuries you had when we brought you in healed so quickly."

That was right; she had gone to the ruins since she'd had time before work, but got lost too long and didn't have the time or energy to heal once she got out. Her passive regeneration must've covered for it while she was in bed. "Just take it easy. I turned away visitors while you slept since you needed the rest, but I figure you're well enough now."

"Thank you." Kira feigned a smile to reassure him. The doctor left the room, while the nurse closed the curtains. After a few minutes, she'd been changed into a fresh hospital gown to replace the old one. With little else to do, she continued to guzzle water and laid back down once she finished. "Damn. This is embarrassing. At least this hospital's gowns actually cover me good..."

Manabu slipped into the room once he was sure no one was looking. He was carrying a fruit basket under his arm, which he placed on the table next to Kira. He pulled out an apple, frowned at it when he realized it was bruised, and tossed it into a trash can. He took a seat next to her, and then, finally, spoke up.

"It took you long enough to wake up. They wouldn't let me in here until you did. Something about me 'not being family'." He scoffed. "Our hospitals don't realize how very little 'family' means in the long run."

He sighed. "You're lucky I came across you first... A lot of bad things could have happened to you while you were passed out. Especially in a town like this... cultists could have found you and made you into some kind of ritual sacrifice, or dissected you and... still sacrificed you. Cultists don't have a lot of imagination when it comes to what to use body parts for."

"I think that's quite enough of that particular topic, Manabu-san."

Miyuki walked in shortly after Manabu, assuming that his entrance meant that visitors were allowed now. She carried a small get-well card, placing it on the table next to the fruit basket. Miyuki remained standing, frowning at Kira. "He is right though, Kira-san, passing out in the middle of the city is dangerous."

She made a questioning gesture with one of her hands. She was going to kill Satosu for making her unconsciously pick up that habit. "Have you been getting enough sleep?" So said the girl with bags under her eyes. Miyuki was well aware of the hypocrisy, but Kira was the one in the hospital, not her. That subject could wait.

It sounded like a stupid promise initially, but Akiko wasn't going to let her down. When she said that she would have his back and he would have hers, the Cowboy meant it. He had heard of her collapse and rushed to the hospital as soon as he could. Tipping his hat at the door he looked over at his friend.

"I'm right here Kira, I got your back just like I said I would." The Teen gave a small tip of his hat again, before taking it off and holding it at his chest. He didn't say anything more, the questions the pair had already asked were enough. He simply stood and waited for the Brunette's answer. He had noticed Manabu and Miyuki, but didn't speak to them. He was here for support, not to stir up old arguments.

It took a little longer than it should have to realize she wasn't alone. Probably another lack of sleep thing. "...Manabu?" She blinked, listening to his comments about cultists and ritual sacrifice. Despite being only half awake, she managed to catch the important bits, like the fact he was the one to find her and more importantly that he brought fruit. The brunette smiled brightly despite the rather dark possibilities he'd brought up. "No, they're not much for higher-level thinking, are they? But thank you. I don't want to think about what might've happened if someone else was the one to find me."

Kira jumped a little in spite of herself at the third voice, recognizing it a fraction of a second after the fact. "Miyuki-san? Why-" The brunette stopped herself short of asking the obvious. Miyuki was there because she'd gone and put herself in the hospital by passing out in broad daylight in the middle of a city filled with crooks and maniacs. How many people had she ended up worrying by doing that? She rubbed the back of her head nervously as the first year student reinforced Manabu's point. "Sorry..."

Then the thorny subject of 'sleep' came up, and Kira tensed. She couldn't bring up the shadow thing; they'd think she was crazy. Even worse if they pried about what it was saying and found out the less than complimentary things it had to say about them. Still, she knew she couldn't wriggle her way out of admitting SOME parts. "String of bad dreams. Some unresolved tension decided to rear its ugly head, is all. The fact I'm basically triple-shifting between school, work, and persona stuff doesn't help." The brunette glanced at Miyuki, seeing her chance to change the subject. "How about you? Running the secondary home must be pretty hard work. Is everything going well?"

She would have run with it, too, if it weren't for yet another arrival. Kira turned to Akiko, her features tinged with surprise. Part of it was how many visitors she had, but more importantly was his statement that he had her back. With the main striking point of her shadow's speeches being her insecurity about being alone, the words seemed to have a strong effect on her. Turning between the cowboy, Manabu, and Miyuki, a small smile broke out.

"Thank you. All of you." A quiet gurgle ruined the moment, and with a blush, Kira glanced at the fruit basket beside her bed. "I, uh... I don't suppose you have an orange in there, do ya?"

don't stare at it too long

"Kira are you okay?" Ryouta tumbled into the room, his hair full of twigs and what looked like a bird's nest. He personally didn't care how awkward things may have been between them. If his friend was hurt he was certainly going to go visit.

"I heard you collapsed the other day." Ryouta paused once he heard something tweeting from his head.
"Uh, I can fix that. And uh, hi everyone." He wasn't really friends with any of the others there, but saying hello was always polite.

Manabu shuddered when he heard Miyuki's voice, but didn't say anything in response to her arrival. They'd made up to each other, so there wasn't any reason for him to be nervous anymore with her. Not that that stopped him from scooting a bit away from her. And then Akiko walked in. And then Ryouta burst into the room. Hadn't they dated? This was sure to be incredibly awkward, complete with lots of sexual tension.

He noted Kira's description of what had been happening to her. Unresolved tension... That sounded quite similar to a situation he'd aided her in before. Sleep issues could be attributed to the same sort of situation, plus overwork.

"There should be one," he said in response to Kira, and turned toward Ryouta. "Afternoon, Endo-san." Really, Manabu wasn't particularly happy with the room set up in here. The only thing that could make this better was if Kaede--

"KNOCK KNOCK."

And then Kaede kicked the door open. She walked over to Kira's bedside and frowned. "Damn, the gang's all here... I don't think I've been in the same room together with you three," she pointed to Manabu, Miyuki, and Akiko. "since I awakened." She kneeled down by Kira's side. "Anyways, I was here for a check-up, and heard you were laid up here, so I said 'fuck it' and decided to check in on you. How're you doing?"

Yuzuki followed in Kaede's footsteps as she walked in with a grin on her face. She tipped her hat towards everyone there and waved. It seemed like it was a full house. The girl made her way to Kira's bedside table and dropped off an envelop with a card inside. "Isn't it nice, Kira-chan? We all came to wish you a speedy recovery, you know~?"

Bad dreams? Unresolved tension? Miyuki sighed. So basically, what every persona user pretty much went through. The voices in their head seemed to cause all kinds of trouble. Miyuki crossed her arms. "Maybe you should go see a therapist or something? Honestly, that seems like it'd help a lot of us." Kira inquired about the secondary home, and Miyuki just shrugged. "It's going fine. Eerily akin to running an asylum, but I feel pretty satisfied that I'm helping out." Miyuki didn't respond to the thanks, only looking down and scratching the back of her head. It was kind of embarrassing, in a way.

Suddenly, Kaede, Yuzuki, and Ryouta all walked in, nearly at the same time. Miyuki quietly greeted all of them, not knowing any of them very we - Ryouta and Kira had dated. Hopefully, this wouldn't get awkward or something. And it wasn't like any other ex-boyfriends would walk in.

And then Kaji walked in.

He casually dropped a rather bland get-well card on the table before turning to Kira, nodding. "You need to take care of yourself. Nagashima's too dangerous to just pass out int he middle of the city."

Then, as Akiko was probably about to say something insightful and inspiring, Treo walked in. Then that went out of the window as he smirked at the cowboy. "Well well Cowboy-san, I didn't know you were friends with Kira-san!" Akiko sort of gave the look of 'Bad time white hair.' The teen noticed the relative people in here and slowly calmed back down, placing a small box on Kira's table, if the teen was to open it, she would find a salad prepared with fresh ingredients.

Akiko on the other hand was attempting to bore his eyes through Kaji. He had unresolved issues with him, but for now his concern was with Kira. "Long as you're alright Kira. All this trying to help other people didn't end too well did it?" He gave a chuckle, only messing with the brunette. Treo on the other hand agreed with Akiko.

"I agree with Hideyoshi-san. If you're going to run yourself ragged, you need to take some time to yourself." When the question about the secondary home went out Treo merely grinned. "Its always got something going on, which is better than the last place I lived. It has a homey feel and Miyuki-san's right, it does feel satisfying."

Akiko turned back to his friend, offering another piece of advice. "Way I see it Kira, its about time the takers started giving some back. Don't you worry about a thing for the time being. I'll make sure it gets done."
