'Erm, only for a week, so I guess there's no use trying to form any friendsh-'

'I don't really know my way around the town!' Chiyoko interrupted. Eiji was beginning to see a pattern. 'Maybe you could show me the sights?'

'I thought I was going to do that, MoOOOOW!' A foot came down on Eiji's and he decided to keep quiet for the rest of the lunch.

'You know, we could make it something like a Girl's Night Out! I think that would be fun!' At this, Hisao cleared his throat, the first sound he had made since coming here. With no small amount of irritation in his voice, he said, 'It'd be better iffin Eiji showed us around. We can trust he ain't gonna lead us no where unsafe.' Chiyoko glared at her father. 'Dad!'

The old man scoffed. 'You don' think so? We ain't known these people fer more'n ten minutes!' He eyed the others suspiciously.

'They're Eiji's friends! If he can trust them, we can trust them!'

The old man glanced back at his grandson for a moment. '....He's still a boy.'

Eiji didn't know where to look. It didn't really matter, pretty much everything felt like it was something he was supposed to be ashamed of. He stayed silent and waited for all of it to die down. Or maybe blow up more. He had given up trying to shape how things went.

"Don't worry 'bout me. I'm completely trustworthy."

Harkens said this while playing with a coin with his fingers. He had a feeling that the grandparents are probably on edge thing about him being... Well, not Japanese. Well, was it his fault that he has to come here?

Well, yes. Yes it was. That was not the issue however.
"My character can be vouched for. Right?"

"Yeah, Harkens. You got a pretty interesting character." said Charles, stealing his mother's water.

"Oh, I would just, LOVE, a girl's night out!" said Charles mother, tweaking Charles' nose. "Eiji and Charles should totally come with, too!"

"Wait ma-"

She one inched punched him in the ribs, causing his chair to slide a foot to the right.

"Okay I will." said the boy, straining to speak.

Chiyoko ignored her father and turned back to Alita. 'That's a great idea! It'll be more fun with our sons around! And then you can show me around like you wanted, right, Eiji?'

Eiji muttered something in affirmation, not really listening. He was more focused on the simmering anger of his grandfather. It seemed having his daughter start ignoring him in favor of a foreigner was the tipping point. He stood from his seat and turned from the others. 'Come on, Kaoru. We're goin.' The old woman faltered and tried pleading with him. 'Dear, just give em a chance...' Hisao just scowled at the rest of the group and began walking away.

He stopped when he was next to Eiji, however, and looked down at the young man. 'You're Japanese. That means you a member a the race born of the gods. Remember that, Eiji.' With that, he walked off. Kaoru nodded an apology to the group and hurried after him. Chiyoko shot out of her seat. 'Dad! Wait!' She stood there looking uncertain for a second before reluctantly sitting back down. She looked sheepishly at Alita, Charles, and Harkens. 'Sorry about that. He's... pretty old fashioned.'

Eiji stared into his lap, hoping that if he acted like that didn't happen, the world would retcon it in some way. The longer time went on, however, the more unlikely that became.

"Doesn't a girl's night out kinda get nullified when you bring your kids along?"

As Harkens was pondering that problem, he saw Eiji's grandfather get up and leave after calling themselves descended from gods.
"Strange. I was descended from nomadic tricksters. Ancestry's weird that way."

Seeing how Eiji was hurt by his grandfather's gesture, Harkens sighed and told him...
"Everyone's a little bit racist sometimes. Doesn't mean they go committing hate crimes."

"Not at all, Harkens!~ That way if we get drunk, someone can take us home, and protect us!~"

As Eiji's grandpa walked out, Eiji's face sunk downwards.

"Hey, Eiji, we understand. Old fashioned values and what not. Me and ma aren't really affected by racism much anymore. It happened a lot back home, so no hard feelings to your grandpa." said Charles, patting the other boy's back.

Eiji was about to tell his friends that no, no it was not okay that his grandfather was a racist, but his mother stepped in first. 'No! He has no right to act like that! I'm going to give him a piece of my mind when I get back to the hotel! The nerve of that man!' Instead of agreeing with her, Eiji found himself trying to calm his mother down. 'It's alright, ma. We can catch up with granma and grandad later. Let's just enjoy lunch for now.'

Eiji turned back to his friends and laughed nervously. 'Ehehe.... S-so how were your days?'

"I'm doing fine so far, but still..."

Playing with the coin once again, Harkens gives them an offer...
"You know, I'm willing to offer protection to lovely ladies as yourselves. Chivalry and stuff."

"Whoa, Harkens. No. She's my mom. I'll do it." said Charles, before his mother said anything.

"But yeah, I'm doing good. Just about to eat lunch. Accidentally piss off some people. You?"

'No.' Eiji replied to Harkens's offer almost before he was finished. He was a good kid, but for some reason, Eiji wouldn't trust his mother too him.

Eiji frowned. 'Well, my day was going good...' His mother patted him on the head. 'We'll just have to have an even better one from now on!' she said with a big grin. Eiji couldn't help but smile as well, even though she was treating him like a child.

Chiyoko clapped her hands together. 'So! After lunch, where should we go?'
