One small requirement to recruiting?

I thought I'd toss this idea out there and see what people thought.

Basically, people post their app like usual. The only difference is the person must have been seen playing before by anyone ranked regular or higher. The idea is that the person in question will have been seen playing and (more importantly, as we don't recruit based on skill) interacting with others by one PRT regular (on any server) at least once. As long as the person wasn't spotted acting like a total jerk, the regular(s) or higher who have seen him/her post in the app thread as per usual and that's it, they're a cadet.

Higher ranks would override lower ranks so there's still some authoritative control, for example, if a regular says 'saw and no problems' but a sergeant says 'this guy was a total jerk', the sergeant's opinion takes precedence. Likewise, if the sergeant says 'this guy was a jerk' but a knight for some reason says 'no, we'll give him a shot as a cadet' then the knight's opinion is the most relevant.

Perhaps the cases where a regular or sergeant saw a guy acting like a jerk would best be PM'd to the knights rather than posted in the thread to let the knights decide on that in private/themselves rather than posting and possibly publicly humiliating or discouraging someone who wants to join but was maybe just having a bad day where like someone kicked their dog or something.

I'm still debating on this idea myself, but I figured it couldn't hurt to toss it out in the open. Thoughts?

Edit: meant to post in general discussion, but whatever

I don't think that would be terribly effective, especially since I, personally, don't remember every player who I fight on our server.

But would you remember someone who quite noticeably acted in an unsavory manner?

All that it would require is that you've seen the guy playing. Like, say there's this guy named Pizzaface, and you don't really remember him, but he posts an app and you're like 'oh yea, I've seen this guy play before'.. chances are, you'd remember if he was an unsavory character.

Edit: having a chance to use the term 'unsavory character' was awesome.

Another edit: I'm fine with the current system, personally. Random thought in my head I thought was worth sharing.

Even when Claid was a recruit, I said he should be banned. I even told Ariel. I think the simplest solution would be making the probationary period a little bit tougher to pass. Perhaps Ariel could ask two or three regulars/sergeants about a recruit before he is promoted to regular.

The only arguable issue is that a recruit looks exactly like a PRT regular to your average joe out there. A lot of damage can be done in one week, and damage repair is always a tedious process.

Just a note on this, I've always been a fan of our clan tag having an added symbol that shows rank. Not that its TOTALLY necessary, but I think it would come in handy. Say recruits would have to wear the tag PRT-Rc_<name>, etc.? or something like that? idk.

If nothing else, perhaps a recruit tag might prove useful. Of course, I suppose sergeant/squire/knight could be as well if there are more of such in the future.

The whole purpose of the 1 week time before joining is to address issues that may arise. That being said, Recuits should not wear the tag or wear a modified one as, like apo said, alot of damage can be done in a week and may make our clan look bad.

On a side note, I am of the opinion that now that our membership numbers have swelled, we should slow recruitment and/or make it tougher to join. Maybe not a skill, but "social" requirement, kinda like the hobos, would help us get more quality members.

Hrmm lets see. Put them into a recruit status which we already do, but change it a little bit such as: No access into the main part of the forums until they are fully accepted into the guild, Players in a recuit status should not be allowed to wear the tag / banner until they are a full member and them getting fully accepted into the guild should be a guild wide vote for 24-48 hours and a recruit would need somewhere in the ballpark of 60-70 % of a *Yes* vote.

Half of the people that we have recruited in the last 30 days I have never once seen them and I play at various times of the day.

Recruits should be made to use PRT_Recruit_ tag until they pass into regular.
That way if they do something dumb or unpaladiny it might not effect the clan name as much.
