"BoM says late showers", said Icedog, "sounds a bit dodgy" "I have it on good authority it will be fine", said Errol, "I NEED a ride" "OK, I'm game", said Icedog, "we could try that ride around the Sackville Ferry loop" "Sounds good to me", said MasterMinder, "I don't care where we go as long as we ride" "Ok, well how about we start at Parramatta", said Icedog, "then head out to Windsor, go out to the Sackville Ferry and back via Cattai?" "Sounds like a PLAN", said Errol, "See you at Parramatta at 10:00 - 10:15 on Sunday" ... Well, Sunday morning arrived, cool but clear. Icedog hadn't managed to go to bed quite as early as planned so started the day running behind schedule but not badly so. The planned modding session on Saturday had failed to materialise due to unplanned interuptions but through the powers of the trusty backpack Icedog decided the 650 was to get a run anyway. Pull the choke, switch the key, thumb the kill switch, pull the clutch, hit the starter... bit of throttle, hit the starter... fiddle with the choke, hit the starter... choke off, throttle, hit the starter, don't tell me I have to take the GT afterall... hit the starter... hit the starter, one fire, nearly... hit the starter, fire, fire, fire, twist, twist, twist, apply some choke, Yay! Not an auspicious start to the day, must have flooded the sucker. After a short warmup while I dragged on helmet and gloves I was away at last. Up to the gas station to fill the tank, still not too far behind schedule. WTF! Barracades across the road, can't get to the gas station, in fact can't get to the road I want to travel! "Sutherland to Surf Fun Run" - what gives them the right to stop me going where I need to go?!? ^o) After riding a l-o-n-g way out of my way I finally get back onto the road I need, behind schedule and smack into Sunday peak traffic. OK, now I'm severely behind schedule, I've got gas for about 100km and a stop to make along the way before I get to meet the guys - I'm going to be late :( - I'll text Errol when I stop and then fill up on gas at Parramatta Errol texts me to let me know they are there as I'm texting him to say I'll be late, "No worries, don't rush" Icedog pulls into the Parramatta carpark at 10:30. The guys have a quick look over the 650 ("what size cannon-balls does it take? ha ha") then its time to make the final PLANs. Icedog pulls out the UBD street directory, "I was thinking, if we detour slightly and head out through Annangrove we can avoid a gazillion traffic lights and its more scenic, what do you think?" "I'm all for avoiding traffic lights and traffic", says Errol "Where do we go?", says MasterMinder. We trace the route through the multitude of directory pages... twice. Finally we are happy. Time to go. One stop at the first gas station we encounter for 11 litres of fuel and we are off. MasterMinder knows the first bit of the way so he leads, Errol follows with Icedog riding drag - today I can hear my exhaust over MasterMinder's :D . Windsor Road, Old Northern Road to Round Corner, Kenthurst Rd, Annangrove Rd, Edwards Rd, errr Edwards Rd, errrrr that was Edwards Rd, U-turn, left, that's better, errr now where are we... another U-turn, left onto Old Pitt Town Rd, time to get some action shots, Time for a quick experiment in video on a still camera. (If clicking on the pic above doesn't work try this link: http://s299.photobucket.com/albums/mm295/P...nt=P7270116.flv ) (Yeah, OK its sideways, my bad) watch out for the gravel! hmmm, maybe they are trying to tell us something - and here we are at Pitt Town for our lunch-time Pitt Stop Very nice pies and sausage-rolls, a BIG thumbs-up. "I don't like the look of those clouds, Errol", "No, I don't either", "OK, What are we doing guys?" It is obvious that its pissing down about 1 km to the west - the direction the rest of our ride was to take. Time for PLAN-B. We decide discretion is the better part of valour and turn for home. MasterMinder is the first to leave the group at his turnoff, Errol and I ride a bit further back towards Parramatta, the sky above is still clear but rain drops start hitting the visor. :( A little further on and they stop and its sun again. Errol peels off next and heads for home. Icedog rides back through Parramatta's maze of oneway streets and no right turns, interestingly past al fresco coffee-shops clearly full of weekend bikers, till he's back on Woodville Rd heading for home, unfortunately this is directly towards a bank of very black clouds on the southern horizon. Across Hume Hwy onto Henry Lawson Drive, bugger the speed restrictions, damn the iceburgs, full speed ahead! Gotta beat the rain. Slow down for the speed camera, it takes rear shots, then back on the gas. Its getting darker and its only 3 PM. Come to an almost stop for the stop sign then open the throttle wide again and into the gap in the traffic on Alford's Point Rd, c'mon Icedog you can do it, the GV roars, the marker posts wizz by, left onto Bangor Rd down across the Woronora River, over the railway, rain spots appearing on the visor again , right onto Acacia, left onto President Ave, yeah keep right cager, this is my lane, I pull into the driveway just as the first real rain drops start hitting the ground, phew, just in time. :D So much for Errol's "good authority". My daughter has it at the moment, I will check. My wifes camera goes to 30 secs so can use that one time.
